Default The Crown's Gate Guard Precinct

Shandara shakes her head. She had no questions about the research she just did, nor the prospective projects to come. If they did come. One thing was on her mind, which was Lieutenant Whitecliff, but she was very hesitant to even bring him up.

She looks just a little sullen, and says, "No, sir.. No, I think everything is in order."

She spares a glance at the cat, and reaches out a hand toward it, before changing her mind and retracting it. "Please give Lieutenant Whitecliff my regards," she says and stands.

The orange cat responds with an affirmative-sounding meow before turning around and heading out of the room. A low-ranking guardsman then escorts Shandara back to the entrance hall. When they pass the reception desk in the entrance hall a woman manning the desk calls out to her. "Excuse me, are you miss Shandara?" She asks. "A box was just left here for you." She picks up a simple cardboard box about the size of a shoe box from a shelf behind her and offers it to the drow.

The dour ending to the project partnership with Shandara had dampened his mood; but a walk through Vaungate's streets with old Ambrose in tow did a good deal to clear away the fragmentary clouds that managed to exist in the shearing optimism of his mind. It was obvious this was a very important piece of wood to Shandara. And perhaps, from time to time, he was capable of making a fool of himself indeed. Ruminating, he slowed down a little until Ambrose's head bumped into his back, causing him to totter forward and almost lose his hat. That made him laugh.

The laughing fit that followed was tremendous; all the discomfort of before morphing into laughter to flee through that giggly vector as he staggered to lay an arm on the horse's side and continue through a cascade of chortles and chuckles, perhaps to the bewilderment of onlookers. By the time he had gotten control of himself, he barely had any sense of why he was upset in the first place.

Stopping by the Dunfen woodyards, Aiden greens Richard, Rickard and Victor with his normal enthusiasm and waffles about his experience manipulating the Tundra Oak. He does love to talk shop.

"...So after some work and trial and borrowing of tools and such, our ranger friend is running around with, as far as I know, the first violin made of Tundra Oak. How about that? Ha ha!"

He does get to his purpose, eventually.

"As for that spiritwood, Lady Shandara has something in mind, so she's got it from here. I went to cut it but hedged off because I didn't want to break any of the major crystal veins in the thing. But I was hoping, perhaps foolishly, that you might have a scrap or two left of the stuff somewhere; perhaps an offcut or a nice stick that broke from the lumber when unloading, or something like that. I've a small project I'd like to tinker with - but I know how rare it is, so if there's nothing like that in store, that's fine, and I can check back when you get your next shipments, whenever that may be."

"There were a couple twigs left." Victor confirms after a moment's consideration. "I kept them aside as I believed them of little value beyond serving as a keepsake. One moment."

Mister Dunfen heads off in the direction of his family's living quarters, and returns several moments later with three small branches, each maybe half a foot long and maybe half an inch wide at the thickets point. Their shapes are somewhat irregular, but not to the point of being useless for Aiden's purpose. Even in these small branches, tiny veins of colorful crystal can be seen running this way and that.

"Would this serve your purpose?" Victor asks.

With animation, he looks over the spindly remnants of the spiritwood stock.

"Yes! Yes, these would work quite well, my friend. Though I hate to deprive you of a keepsake, if you'd like one... How much would you like, to part with these?" As always, Aiden is the easiest sale Victor Dunfen ever has; already rummaging for his coinpurse.

Victor looked over the pieces again, a look of concentration passing over his face as he weighed the size of the pieces, the value of the wood and his relationship with Aiden to come to an appropriate price. "Let's settle on 18 gold pieces for the three of them." He said after a moment.

"A pleasure as always, Victor!" He counts out the coins on the countertop, shakes the man's hand, and bundles up the branches to go. "See you next time!"

Then it's home, and on to a new project; however brief.

Sneaky secrets. I do want to get that harp done soon, but that's a full week of work. I'd like to make these spectacles first because Aiden is pretty keen to smooth things over with Shandara and let her know there are no hard feelings.

Eyeglasses cost 5GP in the SRD, so we'll start with that. I'll pay an extra one gold to cover the cost of materials specifically for the smoked lenses. But Aiden can comfortably knock out 137SP of work in a day taking tens; and half of that can do those glass is a half day all the way up to a difficulty of DC32.

If, because we're working with spirit wood for the first time (even though it's non magical, simplistic work) you'd like a roll, I'll use my daily inexplicable luck. MakeThoseGlasses - (1d20+30)[32]. But I think it's a simple enough project Aiden can bust them out in one evening of work and have them on hand to give to Shandara at his next convenience. Let me know if that's not the case!

After that, I'm lined up for about a week of rolls to make that harp.

EDIT: Damn, whenenver I roll and use my inexplicable luck, the dice tries to destroy me and is only saved by that luck. Hahaha.

The woman shakes her head. "I'm sorry, nothing else. The box was left here by an elf with Lieutenant's insignia, but he didn't stop to chat, and I'm new to this precinct, so I didn't recognize him."

"I see. Thank you," Shandara says.

She debates whether or not she wants to open it. If it's easy enough to open, she'll take it to the side and discreetly peek inside. Otherwise she'll just take it home and open it there.

The box is easy enough to open, and inside is a set of 7 wands. Shandara recognizes their designs as being the same as the wands holding the standard investigation spells she'd seen in Whitecliff's lab. All 7 wands looked incredibly worn though, covered in scratches, cracks and other surface damage. Shandara's experience as an enchanter told her this would mean the wands weren't exactly reliable anymore. Still, they would be salvageable to someone of her skill, if she so chose.

Shandara takes the box home and studies the wands a bit more closely. She would try some mending spells to see if she can improve the condition of the wands, but otherwise sets them aside for now. She had some spirit wood to work with...

Although first, she looks into the possibility of a spell that makes wood material invisible, and leaves all other matter alone.
