Laurelata also lightened the load. Her bow would have to stay behind as she knew she couldn't do anything with it underwater. So only rapier and dagger, her armour, rope and grappling hook and thieves' tools and that was it. Everything else she couldn't use underwater and some things would actually be ruined if she took them down. Even the stuff she took she knew she would have to clean later, as salt water was really corrosive.

She had seen the fish-man and that put her on edge a bit. She hoped they could talk with them, as fighting in their environment didn't really fill her with joy.
"Ready," she said when she had put everything away. It was a bit dangerous to leave stuff in the boat, but they had no other option.

"Alright, Tax can breathe water without my help, right?" Jessica asks. At the Dwarf's confirmation, the young priestess nods. "This will give us more than an hour underwater," she comments, "but be aware, you won't be able to breathe air until it lapses, so a few minutes before it ends, we'll need to start being careful and waiting near the surface."

After making sure her clothes won't be an impediment, she tidies the skiff, including leaving her glaive aboard a bit unhappily. She then casts a spell from the safety of the boat. Suddenly a bit wide-eyed, she dives into the water to resume breathing as normal.

As soon as Jessica jumps in, Laurelata follows, looking around and trying to adapt as quickly as possible.

Henri accepts the spell cast on him with a gulp and a deep breath of air ahead of time. Once it takes effect he takes a moment to consider how it feels to try and breath air (when he can't anymore) and grimaces unhappily. With a splash he goes over the side into the water.

Once below the surface he suspiciously tries speaking. "Don't like this...unnatural," he rumbles, bubbles coming out of his mouth as he expels the air from he last breath. He looks a bit ashamed and embarrassed, avoiding looking at Jessica as he shows his discomfort. After several hesitant...breaths...of seawater he resolves himself to take the lead and begins to swim to the underwater wreck...

Taz nods in the affirmative about being able to breathe water. ”It takes some getting used to, breathing water that is. Assuming you don’t grow gills from the spell, no idea what that is like. I remember there is a moment where everything in you assumes you are drowning, just know that it will pass. Maybe if the spell gets used a lot it will fade. The transition doesn’t bother me anymore. I’ll go slow - Henri, let’s stick together.”

One by one you get into the water. Breathing it felt quite unnatural, but doable and not too discomforting when you get used to it in a minute or so. There seem to be no significant currents here, so you swim down to the shipwreck with no problem at all. What you see in the open parts where there is no deck is the usual stuff:
    - the benches
    - the oars (very few of them, you suppose most got lost one way of another)
    - the barrels (these all seem to have been opened up and now host seawater and some marine life)
    - the shields (some of them, all round wooden ones, you think there have been more, but they got lost one way or another)
    - the anchor

    Other notable things are:
    - there are no dead bodies anywhere
    - there are three withy constructions near the ship that you guess are designated to catch crabs and such, complete with crabs in there chewing on something; you are not sure if there are more nearby, but these are the ones you can see without swimming away from the shipwreck
    - the ship seems to be less populated than the surrounding reef, but not terribly so

You then check under the low deck. There are:
    - a heap of chainmail (you are not sure about the details without digging through it)
    - a heap of weapons (largely, spears, axes and knives)
    - a large chest (this is closed and locked)

Overall, all the wooden things and all the iron things seem to have been completely ruined by time, seawater and marine life. The only exception seems to be the anchor, which still holds quite well.

Laurelata looks around. When she comes to the chainmail, weapons and chests, she looks at Henri for protection and then, after a look for any traps or dangerous wildlife, she starts digging through the stuff.

Laurelata counts (2d6+2)[5] of these. All good for scrap metal only. She then counts (2d6+2)[6] longspears and (2d6+2)[7] battleaxes, all in the same condition, but still recognizable Ulfen style. She also finds a large, but simple, bronze key under the chainmails, that seems to be appropriate for the chest, which does not seem to be trapped. The key, in fact, fits, though rotating it requires some force. Opening the chest, you find the following:
    - mithral spiked heavy shield (shines magical)
    - a rusted decorated battleaxe (good for 20 gp of gold plating and 200 gp in gems)
    - a rusted decorated winged helmet (good for 50 gp of gold plating and 400 gp in gems)
    - 840 gp in various coinage (gold, silver and copper; primarily, but not exclusively, by various Linnorm Kings)
    - ruined papers (two books and a case of scrolls)

Henri nods and first stays close to the other explorers and then stands guard as they consider the sunken treasure. "Sunk long ago..." he muses, based on the lack of bodies and rust on all the metal. "We going below?" he asks, less confident sounding as the currents make even his quiet words carry in odd ways...

"Let's first get this chest back up to the boat," Laurelata suggests, "the scrap metal can wait, although it can be useful as well in our small colony. We can hold our water I assume just as we can hold our breath and quickly drop the chest in the boat. Maybe if everybody grabs a bit, we can have most of the metal on top as well. And then we can move on."
