    What does one expect to find in an adventuring guild in the Mournland? Treasures, to be sure, and hopefully not danger. You enter through the front doors, ready for battle, and find yourself transported, seemingly, back in time. The guild appears almost untouched by time, as if the Mourning had never happened. Tables and chairs are still laid out with ale and cards, a board of (re)quests is filled to the brim with papers that look fresh despite being years old, and candles still burn in sconces, apparently unmelting. Trophies of kills and weapons retired due to long use hang on the walls. The only thing that indicates the wrongness is the absence of a bustling company of fellow conflict-brings and conflict-solvers.

    Instead, there are four. Four spirits of what you can only assume is a party that now echoes through time to defend their "place" against "invaders". Atop raised balconies are a gnome dressed in spellcaster's robes, and a human archer with her bow at the ready. Stood behind the bars are an orc and an elf decked out in full plate mail, each wielding a shield. The orc's axe glimmers with a keen edge, while the elf holds a tome brimming with holy power.

    Beyond the hostile adventuring spirits are a pair of staircases that rise up higher, further back, but you can't see beyond them

    Despite my best efforts, the enemy adventuring team proved too cohesive and all rolled close together with each other for initiative, so we're going to end up in basically side-mode after the first batch.

    Adam frowns as he takes in the scene before him, the homey, well prepared guild hall sparking distant memories of happier times, but soon the party of adventurers makes themselves known. With the battered state of his companions, this was not going to be an easy fight, but at least he had a way to help. Almost without thought, the darkness spreads from him, sheltering himself and his allies in the dark as he raises his shield and advances forwards.
    Almost silently, a mystical hammer appears behind the gnome, seeking to discourage the use of spells in the fight.

    Cutting to the right and moving to intercept the full plated bruiser on that side, Honor spread the group out more. As he advanced a stern wind rose up behind him, breathing frost across his plating in a layer of defensive ice.

    Spinning his hammer out of its holster, Aanash kicks off into the room, advancing to the left flank. The enemies too far to reach just yet, he takes a defensive stance and flicks his wrist, conjuring a gleaming red sigil beneath himself in preparation for his advance.

    As the party makes their advance, the adventurers split off, shifting back, save for the orc who charges in. Both axe and bow strike at Adam, looking to put an end to his sanctuary, but they find his displaced form not something they're able to bypass, and all attacks go wide, impacting only wood. The armoured elf chooses a different target, blasting a bolt of pure radiant energy past you all to slam into Svek's chest before he can act.

    The gnomish spirit slides away from Adam's spell, the force colliding only with the gnome's own magical defences. He circles around the edge of the balcony, directing a finger to Honor and uttering an incantation. Though the Warforged's spirit challenges the attempt, he finds it insufficient as the spellcaster unravels the magical frost, robbing the energy and taking it for himself. In but a moment, the icy shield appears around the robed figure instead.

    The Elf blasts Svek with Holy Shock for 14 radiant damage.
    The Gnome successfully Spellsteals (24 vs DC13) Honor's Armour of Agathys, removing the spell from him and taking it for himself.

    Moving around the volley of arrows and the axe swings even as his cloak projected alternate locations, encouraging the misses, Adam swings his hammer around, trying to slam it into the ghostly orc standing before him, the head shining with light as it impacts.

    The mystical hammer, however, simply pursues it's gnomish victim, striking once more.

    Red lightning pulses up Aanash's legs, and he surges forward at high speeds, scaling the stairs and drifting on his feet to slide into place behind the holy-mage elf spirit up above. Poising his tail to strike, he unleashes a pair of blows while leaving his hand free to perform another spell and call up a second burst of crackling warped magic beneath himself.

    Dashing diagonally to the north east, Honor makes his way over to a pile of boxes before the balcony the archer is firing from. With a surge of exertion, he leaps upwards onto the box, hoping to scale them, climb onto the balcony, and get within melee range of the enemy. He often found that ranged fighters lost their bravery when they had a hammer withing swinging distance.

    The fireball loosed from Svek's fingertips soars through the air but never lands. Quick as can be the archer snaps an arrow that pierces through the in-flight projectile, and disperses its magic entirely into little more than a few warm embers. When Honor climbs up and over the railing to get closer to her, she shifts away, again joining her plate-clad warrior in laying into Adam, perhaps recognising him as the healer of the group. Though Adam's cloak fails to hold up to scrutiny against this volley of strikes, his armour and skills do. He takes only a single axe blow and a single arrow. He's not able to return them in kind though - the warrior's armour is as thick as his, and the mage's spectral armour safeguards him against the spiritual weapon.

    Aanash's mad dash to the stairs has his first blow knock the elf off balance, opening him up to a brutal critical hit that has him panic and throw up a golden shield of protective light around himself. The damage was already done though, and the mage doesn't seem to want a repeat of it - he incants another spell, this one around Aanash, who finds himself and his body shrunk down in a flash. Gone is the Mournling. In its place, a squirrel - not even a Mournland squirrel, but an entirely mundane one.

    Svek's Fireball gets Counter Shotted by the Ranger. (DC14, rolled 4+5=9) so it doesn't take effect, spell slot still expended.
    Honor climbs up and gets close to the ranger.
    Aanash misses once, and crits once in return for 26
    Adam misses twice.

    The Paladin covers themself in a golden shield.

    The Warrior attacks Adam twice, hitting once for 6 slashing damage with their axe. He's affected by Mocking Blow. He has disadvantage on any attack roll that isn't against the warrior, and if Adam hits a creature other than her with an attack, that creature has resistance to the damage of the target’s attacks. This lasts until the start of the warrior's next turn.

    The Ranger moves away from Honor, provoking an OA if he wants to take it. It won't change her turn though - she shoots Adam four times (using her Rapid Shot feature), missing all but one, which hits for 7 piercing.

    The Mage casts Brief Polymorph on Aanash (DC14, rolled 10+1=11) and he is turned into a Squirrel (rat statistics) as if by the Polymorph spell. This lasts until the end of the Mage's next turn unless broken by someone damaging Aanash sooner.

    Taking the impacts of axe and arrow on his armor and shield, Adam barely feels any pain through the protective barrier of his sanctuary. "The Host is with me this day!" With his cry, a surge of energy blasts the warrior back, away from Adam, although he recovers and charges back before Adam can take advantage of his departure. Instead, he calls down the wrath of the Sovereign Host on his foe, seeking to smite him with a hammer.

    The Spiritual weapon, deprived of any victims, heads 20 feet to the east, getting closer to the hostile enemies.

    Honor swipes at the ranger with his hammer when it dashes away, but he is quickly after it, bringing his hammer around in a wide arc and attempting to crush the archer into incinerated paste.

    Svek's slowing magic may work well against the living, but these dead spirits seem more resilient, shrugging off the effects. The golden-shielded paladin simply ignores it entirely, as if the spell doesn't affect him at all, though the light does vanish again when he begins to move. He takes a moment to press a hand to the chest, mending some of the ephemeral wounds he's taken. The squirrel's assault proves to not matter at all to him, as he moves away down the stairs back towards Adam, trading places with the warrior whose axe continues to find nothing. Frustrated, she unleashes another roar. Though Aanash-Squirrel and Honor resist it, Adam and the out-out-line-of-sight Svek find themselves shaken by the bloodcurdling cry.

    Adam's hammer finds the Ranger, but she continues her retreat, moving away once more and trading places with the mage. They combine their shots once more, forcing Honor to dodge a beam of icy magic and leave himself open to an arrow that strikes him in the temple, then curves to pin the squirrel to the ground. The polymorph breaks, though the arrow remains stuck in Aanash's ankle.

    Svek's Slow gets saved against by Ranger and Mage, the Paladin's Divine Shield makes him immune to it. His movement places him off the map.
    Honor misses once, hits once.
    Aanash misses twice.
    Adam misses.

    The Paladin moves away, and heals themself. Aanash can make a squirrel-based OA if he really wants to.

    The Warrior attacks Adam twice, misses both times. Frustrated, they move away back towards Aanash, though not before unleashing another Demoralising Roar - Adam and Svek fail their saves, and deal half damage on all effects until the end of the warrior's next turn. Adam gets an OA if he wants it.

    The Ranger moves away from Honor, provoking another OA if he wants it. She shoots him twice, hitting once for 9. She ricochets the shot to Aanash, dealing 4 to him in turn. This breaks the polymorph, with 3 damage carrying over.

    The mage also moves around him, firing a frostbeam which misses.

    As he poises himself to attack again, Aanash finds himself suddenly growing back to normal size and nearly stumbling over. He lashes out at the fleeing mage with his tail and pursues the tiny spellcaster up the stairs, crawling up two steps at a time like a monster himself until lunging into the air and jabbing with his tail like a soaring wasp.

    His heart taken out of fighting by the roar of the warrior, Adam doesn't swing his hammer at the retreating warrior, instead choosing to call down the wrath of the gods on the man. Taking advantage of the extra space granted to him, Adam summons a second burst of light around the warrior, before advancing, to restore the sanctuary to hiss allies, as best he could even while the spiritual weapon goes after the paladin right next to it.

    Despite his fears, he continues to do his best to make sure his allies have the best chance of survival.

    Re-entering the fray Svek's barked command comes too quick for the paladin to heed it, and though narrowly he does manage to shrug it off, choosing instead to follow behind Adam and throw another bolt of healing magic at the ranger, who finds herself harried by Honor's strikes, two of which land. She lashes back, alongside the orc warrior, but only one axe-blow lands across his back, cutting deep.

    Aanash follows behind the mage, who briefly blinks out of time when the first blow hits, and re-appears unharmed when he returns. The second attack issued has no such attempt however, and cuts at the gnome's ghostly skin. In response he...ignores Aanash and instead focuses on the silver-flame-flinging Adam, wresting control of his Spiritual Weapon (that had just moments ago cut the warrior) just as he had done with Honor's ice-armour. The weapon turns upon its former master, but finds itself no more effective for doing so.

    Svek's Command gets saved against (15+2)
    Honor's OA and one attack hits. The other misses.
    Aanash's OA hits, but the Mage uses their reaction to Alter Time and heals the damage. His attack also hits, no reversion that time.
    Adam's warcaster sacred flame hits. His follow up doesn't. Spiritual Weapon does.

    The Paladin heals the ranger for 7.

    The Warrior attacks Honor twice, hitting once for 11. He too is affected by Mocking Blow, and his disdavantage on any attacks not against the warrior, and non-warrior enemies have resistance against his damage.

    The Ranger stabs at Honor twice, and of course misses both times. They're looking quite low on health, even with the heal.

    The mage Spellsteals Spiritual Weapon from Adam (rolled a 2) and misses with its attack.

    Feeling the tug of supernatural attraction towards the warrior at his flank, Honor decides he must give it his all to destroy this ranger before he gets out of the warforged's reach. His hammer, already flaming, begins to glow with an iron colored light, as do the paladin's eyes, as he invokes his Oath to drive the ghostly ranger to the ground with a flurry of attacks.

    So first attack is definitely at the ranger, but I'm invoking my Channel Divinity for a +10 to hit on this attack. (1d20+17)[34] or (1d20+17)[28], whichever is lower. Damage for first attack is (2d6)[2][3](5) +4 (+2 damage on reroll) Bludgeoning, plus (2d6)[5][3](8) fire damage. Second attack will be at the ranger unless it dies to the first attack. If this is the case negate disadvantage and target the warrior. (1d20+7)[9] or (1d20+7)[22] to hit, whichever is lower, followed by (2d6)[5][4](9) +4 Bludgeoning, plus (2d6)[2][1](3) fire.     Muttering a curse under his breath as control of his spiritual weapon was wrested from him by the gnomeish arcanist, Adam sees the plight Honor found himself in, and advances, hoping to support the man, despite the risk of the barbarian taking advantage of his distraction.
    Along the way, he quickly mutters another spell under his breath, and another blast of divine energy seeks to sweep over the warrior.

    The acid ball from Svek washes over two of the spectral foes, and the injured paladin finds it too much for their essence, vanishing into a whiff of ectoplasm. The fighter stays strong, despite their injuries. The ranger can't though - guided by their oath Honor manages to down them with a furious blow, though the follow up against the plated foe fails to land. Aanash and the mage exchange attacks that both go wide, striking at nothing but air, and likewise the fighter proves themself slightly more dextrous against Adam's spell. The fighter does at least retaliate against Honor for destroying their comrade, cutting with an axe hit.

    Svek's acidball finishes off the paladin. Bloodies the warrior.
    Honor hits on the first attack, finishing off the ranger, barely. Misses on the second.
    Aanash misses.
    Adam's sacred flame whiffs - also its a dex save, not wisdom.

    The warrior hits Honor for 7. Mocking Blow etc. etc.
    The mage steps back 5ft and fails to hit Aanash with its icebeam. They also fail to hit Adam with spiritual weapon.

    Honor watches the last of Adam's defensive veil absorb the warrior's blow, inciting the warforged to go in for the kill. Worn down from a day of violence and disturbing choices, Honor does what he knows- he tries to smash the enemy with all his might, with the force of his Oaths adding weight to the blow.

    Svek debates who to help. Honor and Adam both look pretty banged up, but there are two of them and Anash is all by himself against a wizard. He decides the wizard is the bigger threat.

    Jabbing again at the mage as he backs away, Aanash jerks to the side to evade the ray of frost, which ices over the railing behind him instead. Assessing the enemies only for as long as it takes to figure out who is nearest to strike, he gives chase.
