Re: 3.5e Batman Campaign (2.0) [2nd Thread]
Sorry, I was paralyzed by being-bad-at-keeping-up-with-my-threads for a bit there. But also indecision; I'm struggling somewhat to envision what's ahead of us here. So we've hooked around a corner and 45 ft deeper into the library is an invisible source of a malevolent aura which Oracle is detecting, which is not subject to spotting with See Invisibility? Hmm. Unless someone has a better idea, I think we just have to sort of rush it and try to cope with what happens. That hasn't served us super well before, but I see no alternative!

Re: 3.5e Batman Campaign (2.0) [2nd Thread]
I mean, I’m trying to figure out if it would count as a magical trap that I could disable device on, but that would definitely cost me the rest of my greater invisibility.
Actually that’s a good question, how long are we taking here? Did I waste my greater invisibility or is there the hope of still getting some use out of it?

Re: 3.5e Batman Campaign (2.0) [2nd Thread]
You've actually only been on the clock -- from when you ambushed Bodak + Co. -- for less than a minute. I did some math for how long it would take Havyn to walk down the hall, talk to Kysel, and then come back with him and whoever else, and set up a turn counter for it. We burned basically a turn (with a surprise round) at the bodak. Then another turn to move to Kyltania's door, turn three busting in and starting the fight....then like 2-3 more turns beating her and her summons. So 30-36 seconds there.
Then 12 more seconds to move from her room to the door to the library, and 6 more to bring you to right now. So we're at 48-54 seconds since you attacked.
Now, as you can imagine, it doesn't take all *that* long to walk upstairs, say, "Hey, we captured some adventurers/vigilantes, wanna see?" Then come back. So time is running out. But it's not out yet.
The library is designed to block clear lines of sight. It splits in one direction, then narrows, then splits again, with the bookshelves defining it's shape. So basically there is just 1-2 shelves in between you and the aura Oracle scanned. You can move forward, you just can't physically see what it is from your position.

Cool okay; well Oracle is leading the sneak-up, but it’s worth asking - these shelves go ceiling to floor, I assume?

If you look on Roll20, you can see your LOS slowly clearing out the last of the fog of war in this room. Damien's angle allows him to see the extreme far wall.

Strong temptation to just launch knife out over the shelf toward the aura - but since only Oracle can see the aura, it would be both foolish and unjustifiable. And I can only spin foolishness!

I appear to have scared the party more than I ought to have. I designed this room to block LOS as a defensive mechanism for the enemies but it seems to have induced analysis paralysis lol

Well you get a surprise round, and I saved your previous init rolls if you wanted to use them, however if we want to reroll it needs to be the whole party or nothing. Do we think Kate can beat her previous best of "2"?

Technically Nightwing is first, but I launched my attack with the notion that he and Damien would combo attack together.
After I accumulate five well timed blows, I expect to switch to control him.Damien Wayne in Molan's Batman {D&D3.5e}

Been juggling things and didn't want to slow the action. I was gonna make the save on my turn...though I suppose that could screw up the target priority...I'll check

Hey no worries mate, I just didn’t want to fail to mention in case it fell off the table and I end up remembering and cringingly begging for a retcon four turns from now, lol! In what ever order you prefer works for me, no rush.

Lol!
Also, good gravy full-broadside-Oracle does a lot of damage
EDIT:... I haven't been paying attention to it till now, and I am loathe to potentially poop a party particularly while our lives are in the balance, but isn't there a thing that means you only get sneak on the first attack of a volley?Last edited by MrAbdiel; 2023-02-24 at 08:42 PM.

Re: 3.5e Batman Campaign (2.0) [2nd Thread]
… I don’t think so? You might be thinking of 5r where that definitely is a rule, but as far as I can tell it works fine in 3.5.
“The rogue’s attack deals extra damage any time her target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC (whether the target actually has a Dexterity bonus or not), or when the rogue flanks her target.”

Re: 3.5e Batman Campaign (2.0) [2nd Thread]
I have a vague recollection of my own party being pooped about this in one of the campaigns I played in my mis-spent youth; but I could be wrong. I'll try to find what I'm thinking about at least. I might be misremembering my heartbreak when I learned bonus dice on crits don't multiply, or something.

I'm not aware of any reason why we'd nerf Oracle's damage during the surprise round.
