If he hasn't already, Marius drinks his extract of Ant Haul to lighten his load. He also asks Paula to stay outside by the cell door and to squeak an alarm and run back to him if any of those blood-sucking fliers or skeletons from the day before come back. Marius then equips his shield and polearm and follows in behind Alexandru and Hargrimm.

As the team approaches the bed, Marius adds, "Er, if I recall, last time we checked the corpse didn't do anything, but we left those symbols alone back then. I suppose 'stirring the pot' like this is our only option."

Alexandru rounds the corner, approaches the body and reaches out, grabs the holy symbol and tries to remove it.

Although this cell is rather spacious, it contains no concessions to comfort. A skeletal body dressed in the rotting remains of a prisoner’s robe lies slumped against the eastern wall, wrapped in numerous chains on which are affixed numerous weights emblazoned with several different holy symbols.

It seems the party has misremembered the state of the body.

"Ah, sorry. Let us try to free the body from the chains.", Zauberei says.

[Moriar]

"Should we try breaking the chains physically?" Angelo wonders aloud. "Let me see if there is any magic upon these chains or the body."

Move to be able and see the body.

Then cast detect magic and concentrate for a few rounds to see what can be seen.

It would be far easier to break the bones of the body and extricate them from the chains, then to break the chains themselves.

There is no magic here.

"I am not sure if breaking the bones will accomplish much but perhaps giving it a proper burial would help?" Angelo asks the group.

Zauberei asks, "If you can cast detect undead or have a similar ability see if you can sense a presence."

[Ason]

Marius frowns over the puzzle before adding, "If nothing else, religious rites over the corpse might be the right thing to do, both spiritually and in terms of annoying the spirit enough to provoke a confrontation."

At that, barring one of his comrades reporting something with detect undead, Marius will begin attempting to extricate the skeleton from its chains.

Hargrimm draws out a scroll and casts from it before checking the room and its contents.

Hargrimm slowly scans the room until his eyes widen when they land on Zauberei.

"I don't want to alarm anyone, but there appears to be a ghastly presence just behind Zauberei. It's hand is on your shoulder." he says in as calm a voice as he can manage, with his gaze locked on the apparition.

"I could cast a spell of protection, but if I do I won't have my current spell to see if it worked." he explains.

Zauberei looks over his shoulder reactively. He then will channel positive energy to harm undead.

Then he backs up a step and after uttering arcane words, two glowing missiles strike out at the creature.

S17: Zauberei looks over his shoulder as a blind reaction. He then channels positive energy to disrupt undead. Zauberei resists the feedback coming into himself as he takes 1 NE.

He falls down, seemingly unconscious, and wrapped with ghostly chains with a variety of symbols. He is thrashing in pain as the symbols close about him, doing 6.

S12: Angelo, "You, uh, you ..." says Angelo to Zauberei, but not seeing a ghostly creature himself, and thus unable to target anything.

Begin Round One ...

R1T22: Hargrimm, you are still concentrating on detect undead, and it looks like the positive energy Zauberei blasted Father Charlatan with fed back into himself, though it still looks like the faintest aspect of the faux priest-ghost may have been disrupted slightly for a similar amount. Once that happened and Zauberei fell down, the ghostly figure retreated into Zauberei's body and is no longer visible, though Zauberei's body has a weak emanation representing the presence of undead.

"Wake up, Zauberei! Stay with us!" he quietly pleads to the seemingly unconscious man.

R1T18: Marius drops his polearm to retrieve a small vial from his pack. With unearthly speed he then races to Zauberei's side, opens the vial, and wafts it under Zauberei's nose before attempting to stopper it once more.

"Wake up, Zauberei! Stay with us!" he quietly pleads to the seemingly unconscious man. But the man isn't "unconscious," per se. Rather, he seems to be in some type of "unconscious fit" as he writhes spasmodically against the ghostly chains holding him.

R1T17: As the seemingly unconscious Zauberei writhes around, one of the holy-symbol etched locks seems to pull a little, as if vaguely weakened by something.

R1T14: Alexandru - already standing over Zauberei - reaches down, placing a hand on him. Lexi closes his eyes to concentrate, and fully heals Zauberei of the faint bit of damage he appears to have taken, even as it tires Lexi a little (2 NL).

It hits Zauberei's body and does nothing at first, but does do 5 PE damage to the chains, and that damage feeds back to deal 4 mod to Zauberei as the chains wrap tighter around him.

R1T8: Wren will come in and cross over the fallen form of Zauberei and observe for now.
