Ezren is writing notes now. "So, a magical light - a cantrip - isn't completely subsumed by the darkness, as might happen with a normal darkness spell. This tells me that the effect of darkness is a special effect endemic to the site, not a spell simply placed upon it. Okay. And just that specific type of light only illuminated a roughly 5' radius around the bearer. That is detrimental. What about natural light? Like a torch or lantern?"

Aroden frowns at the suggestion, shaking his head, "Ahhh, non, we did not try such a thing, I have not had to carry a torch or lantern since awakening je illume."

"But," he continues, "Perhaps we shall try such, it is bien to know that my power was not overcome by the ugly works of mere goblin sorcery, non?”

"Meanwhile, I feel like it is expected, or someone said it, or I hear it in your voices," says Ezren to the table as a whole, "but no, I have nothing that could overcome such a darkness. You need Grathar and Mordren as your point and safety sweep. If neither of them are the stealthy type, I further recommend that a light be placed on them so that you can follow closely behind and see those that engage those two."

Aroden nods, sits back in his seat, rubs his goatee, and begins muttering something to himself, but otherwise adds nothing more.

"If you guys buy a lantern or torch, I can try carrying it. Who knows, maybe the darkness only effects magic." Grathar scrunches up his face and shakes his head slowly.

"Mind you," says Ezren, "I am not hopeful that this is going to happen. I don't even think it's going to work. But lacking evidence to the contrary, it might be a back door to the darkening effect."

Shrugging Mordren holds out her metalic arm "If one of you wants to light up my arm I don't mind taking the lead since I can see just fine down there"

"Alternatively, we could just light the humans on fire.... If you can cast your light spell on me or my clothes that would be fine to. I don't really know how your magic works. Might draw the focus of our enemies to me. Which is a good thing?"


Grathar looks down at his short legs. "I'm sure I'll live to regret that. Or worse yet, not."

Aroden grins, "Well, anything is 'worth a shot,' non?"

"It may just be your turn to claim some necks, ah, Joy?" Aroden asks the smaller of his swords as he practices swinging its heft about in the yard.

Bríg prepares Bless, Protection From Evil, and Murderous Command, as well as Remove Fear as a domain spell. She shapes Shaitan's Earthen Armor and The Conflagration into her Chest and Storm chakras respectively, and invests 1 essence into the Shaitan's Earthen Armor. No other changes.

Grathar will take out his heal kit at some point and try to figure out what is going on with him and if he need some sort of special healing.

The allergic reaction he and Brig were having has abated. There is faint redness now, but no real irritation, and it will likely clear up fully in a day.

Taking a quick trip to the market, Aroden is wowed by a sunrod demonstration, spending half his remaining wealth on two and sheepishly shelling out some coppers for a bundle of ordinary torches.

Grathar hunts up some breakfast and joins the others. "I'm fit and ready to go back to the tower when you guys are. I don't have any other business in town. "

"I'm ready as well" Bríg says, "and with our new plan, we should actually make some progress this time."

The party takes the two-mile trek to get to the tower ruins, moving down the rubble-strewn path, but not yet turning the bend that turns northwest to face the portal to the tower.

What do you do to prepare?

"So!" Aroden declares, drawing three torches from his bag, "Who wants one?"

Grathar

"I can take one to light the way." Grathar offers. "Do we think the goblins did any of their own preparations? maybe a trap or ambush or reinforcements ?"

Reiko does not take a torch.

Mordren will set up her Armored Mask in preparation for the coming conflict

Grathar

Grathar scrunches his nose. "Sounds like I'm the only paranoid one here. I'll lead the way. Should be easy to see over my shoulders. Reiko can you keep an eye out for any traps?"

Grathar makes his way towards the entrance, pausing only to confirm the others were following.

"Ah, before we go, another blessing from yours truly, mon amie..." Aroden declares, mirroring the movements and repeating the mantra he had made use of the day before.

He chuckles, "I doubt these lowly wretches have the mental, hmmm, fortacity to rig up any true trappings, ah? We will be bien deluxe, oui!"

Grathar, you are standing several feet from the yawning black opening to the Tower Ruins, and your incredibly keen dwarven darkvision detects a goblin hiding right at the limits of your darkvision. What do you do?

Grathar sighs. "It is like my grandfather always said..."

He will prepare to deflect the any arrow he can see coming his way with his free hand.

Aroden gives a puzzled look at Grathar's native tongue, but shrugs, striking up his torch and attempting to ward away the dark as they move further in, "Smart dwarf, your grandfather, I like the cutting of his jib, oui. But, ah, do you see anything?"

He draws his longsword all the same.
