The party moves up to support Leif, and as they're getting into position, the stable doors at the north end of the courtyard burst open, and out come two goblins atop dire wolves, bows in hand. The noise clearly attracted attention. They raise their bows and loose arrows in quick succession down the gap towards the party. They find it difficult to land a target, but one lucky blow slips past Bernie's defenses. Paul looses a bolt of flame at the same time, and it strikes one of the riders hard, though they remain atop their mount as they guide their wolves into the gate area, taking cover.

From inside the icy tempest, you hear yelling back and forth, though it's difficult to make out what is being said over the sound of sleet and storm.

Party's all on the map now.

No enemies appeared before Jorr's turn. On his next go he pops out and shoots at the sleet storm to try to hit one of the hobs, but misses.

A pair of goblins (wearing leather, wielding shortbows) on dire wolves emerges from the stables. Paul firebolts one with their readied action for 12 total.
Produce Flame's range is too short to reach them, unfortunately.

They retaliate by shooting at Bernie twice each. 3 miss, one hits for 7.

You can't see it but another enemy emerges into the sleet storm from the northern room that was obscured. They fall over and spend their turn dashing. You hear yelling through the storm as they communicate back and forth.

As Bernie approaches, two of the hobgoblins emerge from the sleet storm. They wear chainmail and carry longswords and longbows, though the blades are what they hold in hand. For the moment, they appear focused on defense. From within the sleet you can hear yet more fumbling around, though no more yet emerge.

However, to your east, you hear a great beating of wings and scrabbling claws as a great beast appears from a hole in the building's roof. Bearing the wings of a dragon, a long spined tail, a lion's body and a vaguely humanoid head, the manticore looks out upon the battlefield with mild amusement. Despite the hostilities being clear, it chooses not to act, instead observing warily.

Paul moves a bit closer, eyeing the manticore warily. Hearing the hobgoblins struggle, as well as something bigger, he decides to add to their misery by flinging a wooden cartridge in their direction, which hits the ground and explodes into a mass of lines of sticky good. Almost as an afterthrought, he points his wand at the closest visible hobgoblin, directing his eldritch cannon to fire a purple blast at it.

Leif calls up to the manticore, "That you haven't attacked us yet tells me you haven't decided who is weaker! But answer me this, whose side would you rather fight on? Ours?" she says, before gesturing to the hobgoblins before her, "Or the idiots who keep falling over?"

Leif then moves ten feet east, to the other side of Bernie, and her hands begin to blaze with flame. "Besides, they have way more meat on their bones than we do."

Leif will prepare an action, to cast Burning Hands when at least one but preferably more than one hobgoblin enters within fifteen feet of Leif's new position. Creatures must make a DC 16 dex save or take [rollv]3d6[/rollv] fire damage.

When the hobgoblin emerges, Ayalla unleashes a burst of sacred flame against it, but even stumbling from the sleet it manages a narrow evasion from the scorching radiance. As if to add insult to the sleet storm's injury, the sticky goo washes over the hobgoblins and minotaur who do their best to not get caught up within it. Unseen to you the bugbeaer stumbles through the ice and narrowly avoids likewise being caught in the spidersilk.

You hear the rumble of the dire wolves footfalls to your east, though none of you can see just what they're preparing.

The manticore yawns loudly at Leif's entreaty, almost lazily, almost mockingly, a sly feline smirk crossing its features as she prepares a spell. Jorr steps out from behind her and follows up with Paul's cannon, firing at the same hobgoblin, before returning to his previous position. The sudden crossbow bolt flies true, striking the creature in its hip.

Web goes up from Paul, but no saves until their next turn start. The cannon hits and knocks one back into an ally square.
Leif prepares a spell, but has yet to get the opportunity to cast it.

The unseen bugbear moves through the sleet storm. They make their save vs. prone, and then additionally make their save vs. Web to get past it, but since they're dashing, nothing else this turn.
The goblins circle around on their mounts, though none of you have line of sight on what they're doing at the moment.

The riders have slipped out, they're making their way around to flank us it seems. I can't go on without pointing out that we're outgunned and out-manned. I suggest we try again some other day.

Half of the attacking force seems to get stuck in the goo and struggle against it, though with some effort they all eventually break free and move out of it, circling around as best they can to avoid getting stuck in it. The already injured one, perhaps high on the adrenaline of their pain, rushes forward but all he receives in return is a face full of flame, scorching his front from head to toe. He stumbles forwards another few steps before collapsing forward and breathing his last. A yell from one of the hobs to the Manticore drives it to final action. It lazily flicks its tail in your direction, releasing three spines at you. Bernie parries his with a blade, but the other two strike Leif and Paul, cutting them.

Three of the five fail their saves vs. Web. They all spend their action on making strength checks, and surprisingly all break it.
The two that made their save vs. Web move out and Dash forwards. One gets just within range of burning hands, which procs for 11 damage, which is barely enough to kill him.

The Manticore attacks with its ranged spines. The one targetting Bernie misses, but the other two hit - Leif for 8 and Paul for 4 piercing damage.

Also I should have deleted Sleet Storm before when Leif readied to cast a spell (this takes Concentration!) but I forgot. Oh well, gone now.

Turning to the minotaur, Leif smirks. "Are you sure you want to come closer?"

Any enemy that moves through the area takes 2d4 piercing damage for every 5ft they cross and must make a DC 16 Perception check to recognise the area as hazardous.

The minotaur cuts through the firebolt from paul with a slash of its axe, dissipating the flames even as the force of the cannon shot follow up knocks it back, opening him up for a combination spellstrike from Ayalla. Spikes spring up from beneath the hooves of the minotaur and cover the entranceway to the keep, locking at least one other hobgoblin in place.

In response, the bugbear floats up on figurative wings of magic, incanting a spell. Darkness wraps around the vision of Leif, Paul, and Ayalla, blinding them from the outside world, though with a few quick blinks and a shake of the head, Paul and Ayalla manage to overcome the magic and are no worse for wear. The goblin riders appear once more, curving around the southern side of the keep to loose arrows from their shortbows at Wuffles. The wolf evades two of the projectiles but a pair of arrows stick into the spirit wolf's flank. Before you can rush to retaliate, the mounted goblins spring back out of sight around the keep.

The bugbear flies up, apparently magically, and casts Blindness on Leif, Ayalla, and Paul - Leif fails their save (can make new DC14 saves at the end of their turns to end early) but Ayalla and Paul pass theirs.
The goblin riders dart down and loose four arrows between them at Wuffles. Absent any instructions, they were Dodging. Two miss, but two still hit for 7 and 8 respectively.

Bernie readies himself for a charge, and a charge he receives. The minotaur lowers its head and rushes through the spikes, apparently willing to endure the pain if it means getting closer. Throwing caution to the wind the minotaur slams its horns directly at Bernie, one of them piercing past armour to draw blood. The warrior stands resilient against the full force, and though he doesn't manage a grab on the hulking beast, he does stand his ground and avoids being thrown away, instead pushing the monster back himself.

The spikes are more concerning to the hobgoblins, who opt to instead sheathe their weapons and reach for their longbows, watching closely to avoid being caught out as they switch to their ranged options. The manticore though, holds no such concerns. Another lazy flick of the tail sends another trio of spikes at Paul, Ayalla, and Leif. The former two manage to dodge away from the projectiles, but blinded as she is Leif finds herself victim of the slicing pain.

The minotaur charges through the spike growth and takes [B]19[/B ]for his troubles. He Recklessly attacks Bernie with a Gore, hitting for 16 pre-reductions. Bernie makes his strength save against being knocked away, but unfortunately the low rolls on the grapple narrowly miss a success (2 + 14=16 vs. 13 + 4=17).

The hobgoblins all sheathe their longswords and Dodge, reaching for their longbows.
The manticore flings three more spines from its position at the same targets - Leif being blind turns a miss into a hit, for 4 damage. Needs to roll Concentration on Spike Growth.

Paul, Ayalla, Wuffles, and Leif are up.

Being blind, Leif doesn't see Bernie cover her from the first barrage of spikes and she is unable to react to the second barrage either. Then there's a burst of flame, which shocks even Leif who can only feel the gentle heat she recognises so well. "Calcifer?" she says, surprised, "How did you...?"

Calcifer looks at the manticore, not with the familiar eyes of the cute spirit but something darker, angrier, but returns to normal when he hears Leif's voice. Forming a little hand to give the manticore the middle finger, Calcifer then flings a mote of flame at it.

Leif summons Calcifer (or did he summon himself?) to the square right of the dead hobgoblin. All creatures within 10ft (I believe this is the manticore, the minotaur and one of the hobgoblins) must make a DC 16 dex save or take (2d6)[12] fire damage.
Calcifer then uses Flame Seed, aimed at the manticore.

Paul's cannon blast thrusts the minotaur back from the party, scarring its legs yet more against the spikes. When he flings the firebolt at the flying bugbear it looks like the searing projectile will strike true, but at the last moment an ephemeral shield appears and disperses the flame. Wuffles leaps past their master, floating on air to avoid the spikes and bites down on the bullman, knocking it off its hooves and causing it to crash down among the deadly spikes. Held down by the spirit wolf, the minotaur is unable to evade the flame burst from Calcifer, and when the elemental flings a fire at the previously lazy Manticore, it's taken off balance and receives the flame bolt directly to its smug face. Jorr nails it in the flank with another crossbow bolt to add insult to injury, and it screams with anger.

The floating bugbear meets fire with fire. With a vicious incantation six tiny balls of flame appear surrounding the flying spellcaster. With a gesture, it flings two at the grouped up party, detonating them in your midst, though as telegraphed as they are, they are (mostly) simple to evade.

At the same time, the mounted goblins continue their hits-and-runs, darting back into sight and firing another four arrows, this time at Jorr. He dodges away from two, but two more bite true.

Paul hits with the cannon on the minotaur, and would have hit with Firebolt had the bugbear not Shielded.
Wuffles narrowly hits the minotaur.
The hob makes their save vs. Calcifer's appearing, but the minotaur - reducing it to 0 hp - and manticore do not. The crit, of course, hits.

Jorr shoots the Manticore for a further 12 damage. It's bloodied.

The Bugbear floats north and calls up six minute meteors, two of which he flings at the collected party of four.
First Meteor: 2 damage. Everyone makes their saves, so 1, before resistances.
Second Meteor: 8 damage. Leif and Bernie fail their saves, Paul and Ayalla pass, so they only take half.

I rolled Concentration for Spike Growth and Web this time since it might inform Bernie's turn. Concentration broke on both (Spike Growth: 1+5 mod, Web: passed one, failed with 2+6 on the other).

The goblins shoot Jorr, hitting twice out of four, for 10 total.

As the ground clears and the minotaur falls, Bernie takes this opportunity to leap into action, peeling off and taking a running leap at the building the manticore perches on. With a short huff and the clank of his armor, he grasps the edge of the roof and pulls his massive metal frame atop it with just his arms. As he stands, he grips his sword in both hands, steps surely towards the spined beast, and brings it down with gusto.

Reaction: Using the Readied Grapple

Action: Dash for extra movement.

Move: Run and jump to grab the lip of the roof, pull myself up, and get in the Manticore's face.

Action Surge: Attack with two-handed Moon-Touched Longsword (d20+7)[15] vs Manticore AC for (d10+4)[13] magical slashing damage.
Extra Attack with two-handed Moon-Touched Longsword (d20+7)[9] vs Manticore AC for (d10+4)[6] magical slashing damage.

With a running leap, Bernie clambers up the side of the building, jumping far higher than the manticore perhaps expected from a man clad in full plate. It allows the fighter to strike first, cutting a gash down its flank, but the follow up is knocked aside by the creature's tail. It lunges for Bernie, but the skilled fighter twists his armour to absorb fang and claw and the beast doesn't manage to deal any damage beyond aesthetic. With a vast wingbeat it turns to fly away, exposing its back. A foolish move, it seems, as Bernie strikes it from behind, drawing yet more blood. The manticore seems to ignore the yelling of the flying bugbear as it flies away north, away from the party - and the battlefield.

The hobgoblins do not give up. Two run in with blades drawn at Calcifer. One misses, perhaps kept at bay by the heat, but the other one lops off a length of flame. The final remaining hob choose not to get close, instead preferring a ranged assault against Ayalla, but the genasi simply dodges it with an elegant shift.

Bernie hits on the first attack, sadly misses with the second.

The manticore attempts to claw and bite Bernie, but (narrowly) misses on one thanks to the infusion , and flubs the other two.
It then flies away, provoking an OA which I rolled, which turned out to be a crit for 16. It is barely still alive and now appears to be in retreat. It's 75ft in the air on its map position.

Now that the web is gone, two of the hobs rush in with swords. One hits Calcifer for 8, the other misses. The other shoots at Ayalla with their bow, and also misses.

The meteor causes Ayalla to loose focus on the blessing fo her allies.
She steps into the bailey of the fort and around the wall to get clear of the mounted archers, calls forth scared flames on the Bugbear, and sends Wuffles to attack the nearest Hobgoblin.

The combined ranged assault from Paul and Ayalla leaves the Bugbear spellcaster battered, bruised, and bleeding, though still floating. It lashes out with another two meteors as Wuffles moves up, catching three of you in its area. Wuffles is ever nimble, and evades deftly as it charges the nearest hobgoblin and drags it to the ground with a ravaging bite, but Ayalla and Paul are marginally less able to avoid it. With two floating meteors still remaining it darts out of sight, downing a potion. Before it vanishes, you note that the potion seems to mend some of it's injuries, though clearly not many.

Leif and Jorr both coordinate their strikes, delivering critical blows of flame and steel to the hobgoblins in melee. They are, barely, still alive, though clearly severely injured. The goblins swoop in from behind, harrying you all the more. They take aim at Jorr once more, striking the woodsman in the back with a trio of arrows that drop him to the ground atop the scattered stone.

The bugbear gets hit by acid splash, the cannon, and Sacred Flame. He is now bloodied. He also spends another spell slot on shield, though to no effect this time.
In absence of a post, Leif defaults to a cantrip and crits with produce flame for 6 total on the left hob - sadly rolled low on the damage.
Wuffles hits and prones the left hob. Jorr sneak attacks the right one and crits for 34, nearly killing it outright.

The bugbear stays flying - evidently the flight is not concentration based. He flings two more meteors at the intersection of Paul, Wuffles, and Ayalla.

The bugbear then retreats around a corner, downing a potion of healing as it goes, though it's still bloodied.

The goblin riders curve around. One crits Jorr and the other hits twice, dropping him to 0. He'll start rolling death saves on his next turn if not healed.

Bernie is up. Leftmost hob is less injured but is proned, for advantage purposes. Rightmost hob is more injured but still standing up.

With the Manticore turning tail and the battlefield disorganized, Bernie takes the opportunity to take a leaping dive off the building and bring his sword down on the prone hobgoblin just a few feet away.

Bernie's rapid descent from above crashes down atop the hob warrior, delivering potent stabs through the man's guts and spilling blood across the dirt. Against all expectation he survives, channeling pure fury into standing and slashing back at Bernie with a vicious strike. His comrade aids him from the other side, cutting across Wuffles' flank, though the longbow shot from their uninjured fellow goes wide.

As expected, the manticore continues to flee - it offers no further ranged volley, and instead beats a hasty retreat over the keep walls and then disappears.

The Bernie crits+hits the prone hob, dealing severe damage, but not quite finishing it. It stands and hits back, dealing 19 slashing damage.
The other melee hob hits Wuffles for 15

The ranged hob looses a shot, but misses.

Both the melee hobs are now near death, the longbow hob is uninjured.

The manticore abandons the battlefield, dashing up over and then dipping below the walls out of sight.

Paul, Ayalla, Wuffles, and Leif are up.

"I'll get the wizard." Knowing it's dangerous to let a spellcaster run away and come back with a plan, he runs past the corpse of the minotaur and into an area still littered with rapidly-melting ice to get line of sight on the hobgoblin wizard, firing a ray of fire as well as another cannon blast.

Ayalla pushes through the pain and steps into the gap in the wall and calls forth scared flames on the dire wolf that the goblin is riding then ducks back into the bailey and crouches down to avoid arrows.
Wuffles tries to bite the Hobgoblin again.
