Tyrant's Grasp: The Dead Roads [IC]

Grum looks at the narrow walkway and curses inwardly. As a dwarf he preferred caves and tunnels to heights. Then he glances back at Gwen and Helena "Best head across aye? ut be slow about it. It don't look too safe" he adds as he slowly starts to inch his way across the gap.

Behind him Helena peers through the door, "Take care Grum, I'll be here." she adds swapping her sword for her trusty bow and glancing with some sadness at the nearly empty quiver at her waist.

A long bridge stretches from the door at the top of the guardhouse to a door at the top of the palace. The southern half of the bridge arches above the courtyard 30 feet below. The northern half of the bridge has a drop of only 10 feet to the roof of the castle below. The bridge is only a few feet wide and has no handholds or railings. The door at the north end of the bridge is flanked by several narrow windows, each 2 feet tall and only a few inches wide.

What is the recommended marching order?

Grum looks down and over the edge and shakes his head, "I dinnae like heights eh.." the looking at the others he nods to Gwen, "Ca ye' follow me? Helena, ye wait till I make it across, I dinnae like it so keep yer bow handy aye?"

Helena looks at the thin bridge and nods hefting her bow and her few precious arrows. "As you say. But be careful." she'll suggest as she keeps watching carefully.

Grum nods before shuffling, very, very slowly out across the bridge very carefullly.

Grum and the party cross the 35' span to a door. What now?

Grum had not looked down, creeping across the bridge slowly and carefully eyes fixed on the door as he reaches the far side he waits for the others to join him. Ignoring the wide grin on Helena's face he shakes his head, "Idiotic structure, who be putting a bridge like that in" before he pushes opne the door to re-enter the uppper floor of the keep

Oh, because I forgot to really mention how terrifying the bridge is ...

Surprise Round ...

A wave of lethargy instantly drops Gwennid and Helena. Luckily, since they fall asleep instead of dead drop, they calmly get on their knees and lay down ... saving them from a horrible fall to the courtyard below.

Grum grits his gums and gainsays the gutless pugnaciousness, hearing high-pitched, chittering laughs from the windows overlooking the bridge.

"Come at us!" taunts one to Grum.

Begin Round One ...

R1T19-14: The various little fey - of which there seem to be three tooth fairies - all disappear in the blink of an eye.

R1T2: Grum, what do you do?

Grum looks up as the little beasts flap into view, the flickering hardlight axes yearning to be thrown at them. He snarls a curse as they vanish from view and instead leans down and gives Helena solid shake to try and rouse her

R2T19-14: Gwennid's throat rips open in a spray of blood, and a tooth fairy is standing over her body. Helena takes 1 from pliers that wrenched at her throat when another one appears in her own square. A third also appears in the square with her as well, but seems to have pulled at its own nose while invisible.

R2T9: Gwennid, you are prone, and two buffer-than-usual tooth fairies are in the square with you, while a third stands over Gwennid. Roll a Fort save. What do you do?

Helena snaps awake, clutching at her throat as the pliers pull at her skin. Shaking her head she stumbles to her feet, heedless of the danger and lashes out with the edge of the buckler at the nearest tooth fairy, a worried, "Check Gwen" shouted to Grum

R2T2: Grum looks at Gwen’s dead body and mutters an oath hurling his axe at the nearest fairy, it strikes Blue for 12 mod. That might have dropped other tooth fairies, but these seem to be a bit tougher than the ones you've seen before as it does not go down.

R3T19-14: Red flies into Helena's square and tries to bite, as does Green. Blue bites and pops an image.

R3T9: Helena looks sad as she looks at Gwen before looking at the fey angrily. Ducking and weaving as best she can she punches out with the buckler seeking to strike one of the malevolent beasts, but she doesn't know how to use a buckler as a weapon very well, and it misses.

R3T2: Grum, what do you do?

Her buckler unbalances her, but she still manages to strike Blue hard enough to drop it. Its body falls and tumbles off the side to splat in the courtyard below.

R4T2: Grum looks at the fey, stunned that the creature had survived the akashic pulse and swings harder this time, cutting it deeply and sending its corpse off the causeway. "Nae chance fer you blight!"

R5T15: The last tooth ripper jumps up and bites into Helena's boob for 1 NL.

R5T9: Helena moves to stand protectively over Gwennid's body and then slashes furiously, completely bifurcating the little monster as one half each falls off different sides of the causeway.

Grum and Helena both pause, breathing deeply before she kneels down by Gwen's body searching frantically for a pulse or a sign of life. Grum looks about "See if there be hope lass, I'll keep an eye fer more of the wee flying scum"

As Grum keeps an eye out Helen rolls Gwen over and starts to examine their poor wee companion.

They check Gwennid, but she is gone.

Helena sheathes the sword and scoops up Gwen, tears pooling in her eyes. Grum rests a hand her shoulder, "Sorry lass. that be sad, They were a strange sort but I were fond of 'em too. Lets get 'em off this bridge."

Grum will open the door they reached and move cautiously inside, axes high and ready for action.
