Re: The Royal Artificery Society - OOC II: electric boogaloo
@mrabdiel, do hurl some dice at me!
Shandara's spell accounts for a +2 circumstance bonus for now, but will grow to +5 with a bit of practice. Being able to see the crystal is a great boon. Not being able to really see the wood is something you need to get used to.Jasnah avatar by Zea Mays

Re: The Royal Artificery Society - OOC II: electric boogaloo
Well this inaugural effort is worth the use of my fantastical luck, I think. With the +8 from the luck, the +2 from the masterwork tools, the +2 from this novel magical aid...
(1d20+32)[51], with another +2 on top if you think a Tinker's Cap applies.

"It's BEAUTIFUL- I mean, *cough cough*"
*struggling really hard not to read too much of Shandara and Aiden opening up about themselves* Bolten will learn in good time.
I'll get a post up inquiring the Fernhal Couriers so Aiden can engage with histreehuggingcommission.

@prehysterical, the adress you find for the Couriers is just outside of the city (half an hour on foot past the northern gate, following the main road). Do you want to arrange any transport, or will you just go by foot?

@windstruck, @mrabdiel, the block of spiritwood was broken up in about 28 wand blanks of varyign potenccy depending on whether it got one fo the main veins as cores (8) or had to do with smaller branching veins of crystal (20)
@prehysterical, your carriage fare is either 1 gold piece, or 3 gold pieces if you have them wait for you and take you backJasnah avatar by Zea Mays

Re: The Royal Artificery Society - OOC II: electric boogaloo
@windstruck, 45 gp total price for a wand with three charges of featherfal. Using one of the lesser wands you could make a wand with 25 charges of a first level spel essentially for free.
Edit: though it will require a check is working with the wood is more difficult than standard reagents.Last edited by DeTess; 2024-04-11 at 02:24 AM.

Re: The Royal Artificery Society - OOC II: electric boogaloo
Yeah, I think we might be done there. Aiden and Shandara have shared secrets and may now need time to digest and consider them; I laid out that rooftop dinner scene mostly because it was in my head, not staging any additional revelations or big points, so I'm happy to move on.
As for Aiden, in between the now and the meeting at Escribano, Aiden's gotta get his harp on! So he's got work to do, and then it'll be time to see a man about a boat.Damien Wayne in Molan's Batman {D&D3.5e}

Wands are reusable, right?
Like you can put charges into them, expend them, then put more charges into them?Avatar by linklele!

Re: The Royal Artificery Society - OOC II: electric boogaloo
No. You could make a wand that naturally recharges (so a per day amount of castings, generally around 3), or a wand that depletes permanently and starts with up to 50 charges.
Those are the standard wands, at any rate. You could design a wand like you described, but it would be a bit more expensive than a standard depleting wand.Jasnah avatar by Zea Mays

Hm. How long would it take to enchant one of the lesser wands, assuming Shandara passes the check? Also what is it, spellcraft?

Re: The Royal Artificery Society - OOC II: electric boogaloo
DeTess?
So it would probably take Shandara 1 day to make a standard wand with 3 charges because you essentially have to prepare those spells and then cast them into the wand, right? She has up to 3 level 1 wizard spells.
So what about the wands with crystal veins? You said the lesser variety would be free and get me 25 charges. Is that with the same amount of effort as the first wand I'm making? It would be nice if it also only took a day to make, but maybe that's a bit crazy?
Anyway I'm just looking for a timeframe of when this all gets completed. I think Shandara will still meet up with Ulrik in a few days.Avatar by linklele!

Re: The Royal Artificery Society - OOC II: electric boogaloo
@windstruck, for future projects with the spiritwood I will be asking you to make a spellcraft roll for placing the enchantments. I'll let it pass this time around. You also wouldn't need to expend all the charges to know how many the wand has. Simple inspection after making the enchantments would tell you how many charges the wand has.

Oh sorry I forgot about the roll. spellcraft: (1d20+16)[19]
although. I could waste the charges just for the sake of science. What if the spirit wood causes whatever reading we normally get to also be inaccurate?Avatar by linklele!

Re: The Royal Artificery Society - OOC II: electric boogaloo
Okay, thanks. You think your initial quote is fairly accurate for the invisibility approach. Another way you could do it is to use a scrying sensor and illusion to project an image on the wood of the other side to fake transparency, but that would only get cheaper for larger surfaces (it scales better as a solution).
You think there might be a way to do it through transmutation that could be cheaper at large scales (high up-front cost to design a spell and likely a high-powered staff to cast it, but then repeatable), but you're not sure how well this would work and it would probably take weeks to months if research to design.Jasnah avatar by Zea Mays
