”Of course I’m sure.” the illusionist quipped. ”I’m not little.”

Ren paused slowly pivoting to look at the short wizard. She put a hand up measuring the similarity in height between them and then looked to where Garak, Taneal and Katherine were all walking and attempted (and failed) to raise her hand to their height. Comparing the difference she put a concerned look on her face. "Yes, not at all little."

You begin following the remaining wagon trails to the north. As you travel, you see small wisps of cloud that promise a good, clear night for camping.

Continuing your travel, you eventually find the trail end at a river, the wheels driving straight into the water.

”Well, someone wanted to hide their tracks. It’s damn hard to track someone going via river. Even Orion would have a hard time with that.” Alycie said, crossing her arms.

"On the other hand if they crossed the river the marks would show up clearly. Anyway Orion can spot that for us?" Ren circled the area the wagon had entered the water. She looked for any traces of them shoring up the wagon to float downstream and if the river looked possible to cross.

There are no signs that they tried to make rafts for the wagons. The tracks show the wagons rolling right into the water with no sign they slowed down or stopped.

And the river looks okay?

(Is the river fast-flowing from what we can see? If it's not clear, Garak takes a twig and places it on the surface of the water to see how fast it's carried away. How wide is the river? 5ft? 10ft? Wider?)

EDIT: First part was 'sort-of' answered in OOC, but wanted to see if Garak's method gives more accurate information.

The twig floats away at a decently brisk pace, but at over fifty feet across, you cannot be sure if it gets faster or slower farther out without more testing.

"So... anyone comfortable swimming?" Ren spoke with the voice who was not comfortable with idea and didn't want to be the first one to voice that.

"I can handle it fine," Katherine says. "Part of my transformation gave me the ability to swim like a fish."

Garak looked genuinely impressed. "A most useful talent! If we hand you a couple lengths of rope, you could tie one end to a tree on the other side of the river, we could tie the other end here, and we could use the rope to assist us in crossing." Garak slipped off 50ft of rope from his pack and offered it out.

Katherine takes the rope, and ties a loop of it around her waist. She then dives into the water, aiming for the other side.

Given that she can both breathe underwater and has a swim speed, I don't THINK there should be any checks needed. Assuming there's no monstrous fish, you know. :P

"We should go across one at a time. And the last person will need to untie and bring the rope." Garak's talk about how they needed to work together kept running through Ren's head as she paced back and forth considering the options. "I... I can potentially give you all a boost in crossing if we do it that way. But I am not the strongest swimmer and would rather not be last."

"I will go last. I haven't swum in ages, and I might end up walking at the bottom of the river, but I don't need to breathe."

"You don't need to breathe? But you're still flesh under all that?" Ren paused an important question coming to mind. "Can we even patch you up after a fight? Or is it you break it you bought it scenario?" She emphasized the phrase 'bought it' by drawing her finger across her throat.

Katherine gives a mischievous grin, and starts across the river.

However, there's a strong undercurrent, not visible from above the shore, and it drags her down. She lets herself be pulled a little further, which undoes the rope, but manages to get across about 30' downstream from where she departed.

"There's a riptide," she yells back, "so I doubt any of you want to swim. Gather the rope back up, and shoot it across with an arrow-I'll find something to afix it to."

"You don't need to breathe? But you're still flesh under all that?" Ren paused an important question coming to mind. "Can we even patch you up after a fight? Or is it you break it you bought it scenario?" She emphasized the phrase 'bought it' by drawing her finger across her throat.

"I am not missing any bit of flesh, blood or bone. I have just been using those less and less. And, last time I checked, I am sufficiently alive for healing magic, so I will welcome any you can provide."

"Regardless of breath, I would rather not fight the current. Let's try the arrow thing and then see if Katherine will do all the tying and untying."

Garak gathered the soggy rope back into his hands and removed the knot that Katherine had made for herself as well.

"Why not simply give one end to Orion and have them fly over? I imagine that Orion cannot tie a knot, but I'm sure they can at least carry one end of the rope over to the other side; at which point you can tie it off." He suggested.

"I often find cats aren't known for their ability to carry things long distances."

"I often find cats aren't known for their ability to fly, either." Garak retorted. "Gently tie the rope around it then, like a harness or a leash. If we're worried about slack, then I'm sure someone else has another length of rope we can tie together."

"If we tie a rope to Orion and make him swim, we will be introduced to what a wet angry cat who can fly high enough to reach faces can do to his offenders. Guy will do whatever I ask him to, but he'll be right pissed if I ask him to swim...besides, the wings actually make swimming harder for him, if you can believe it."

"The idea was to fly, not swim, but perhaps he won't be able to take to the air while encumbered so. Let's try the arrow first. Or the bolt, though I have modified my crossbow so I wouldn't have to carry any."

"Uuugh. Lets just do something." Ren grabbed the rope and tied it to the front of a crossbow bolt. She aimed away from Katherine at the other side of the river and let it fly.

The bolt flies across the river, flying true, but almost as soon as the bolt is on its way, you see a new problem.

The rope is going to fall short!

Tanael sees Katherine disappear once more under the water. He turns around and gives a look to where their end of the rope is secured.

"Maybe she thinks we missed. Do we wait for her to pull on the rope and then fish ourselves a Katherine? Nah, I will go for that walk and try to add an extra 50 feet of rope."

Tanael grabs the first rope and lets it guide him into the river. Just before being submerged, he calls for extra guidance.

The 10 is enough to just manage to grab it at the last second.

With a jolt at the realization that they never did secure the rope, Tanael clasps his hands around the fleeing hemp.

It takes some time, but you all finally manage to get yourselves across the river.

After a few minutes of gathering yourselves and your items back together, you begin looking for the wagon tracks again, and soon find them, the wheels making deep ruts as they came out of the river giving you a good trail to follow for another hour until the sun begins to sink lower.

As the time goes on, you begin to look for a decent spot to camp for the night, and find yourself having to choose between two locations. The first is an outcropping of large purple stones that appear to have once been part of a larger structure or perhaps a statue.

The second is an abandoned farmhouse you see in a nearby field. It appears to have been abandoned for some time, as part of the roof has caved in.

Garak took a look over the purple stones to see if he could remember how they might have been used.

"I would suggest we make camp at the farm house - it'll give us some cover from both the elements and from prying eyes. Still, we should post a guard to watch over our camp. Does anyone wish to volunteer to be first on watch?"
