Re: MitD XIX: The Potted Plant Is Starting To Look Reasonable
Hmm, my attempt to divert the thread into Star Wars appears to have failed.
1) How did a sith punch Miko and her horse through a wall?
Telekinetic Force Shove.
2) Why didn't Miko or Belkar's weapons hurt a Sith?
Force Precognition allows the Sith to avoid the blow, but the lightsaber (invisible in the magical darkness) provides a feeling of impact so they don't realize they've missed the target.
3) Why wouldn't a wizard recognize a Sith?
That's silly, sith are from an entirely different genre/RPG. What knowledge skill do you think covers recognizing one?
4) Why would humans become nauseous at seeing a Sith?
They saw the prequel and sequel trilogies.
5) How did a Sith teleport V and O-Chul to the beach with Hinjo?
Hyper skipping like in the sequel trillogy, you can do anything with hyperspace now.

Re: MitD XIX: The Potted Plant Is Starting To Look Reasonable
Alternative take: MitD is Jar Jar Binks
1) How did Jar Jar Binks punch Miko and her horse through a wall?
Apparently he messed in the darkness with something he wasn't supposed to, which had an accidental but beneficial effect.
2) Why didn't Miko or Belkar's weapons hurt Jar Jar Binks?
He's essentially indestructible; probably plot armor of sort.
3) Why wouldn't a wizard recognize Jar Jar Binks?
Why would he? He's never been on Naboo.
4) Why would humans become nauseous at seeing Jar Jar Binks?
Well duh.
5) How did Jar Jar Binks teleport V and O-Chul to the beach with Hinjo?
See p. 1
Bonus points: Jar Jar Binks's personality suits MitD much better than a sith'sLast edited by Savil; 2023-12-15 at 05:11 AM.

Re: MitD XIX: The Potted Plant Is Starting To Look Reasonable
Hey, how do you think Bowser came to be?
An aquatic giant dinosaur monster with gills and elemental powers? I think the appropriate proclamation is "Godjira!".
But what about a Protean taking the form of an appropriately templated potted plant ? With a Tarrasque shell ?
You fool, you fell for one of the classic blunders! Star Wars is canon to OotS, as demonstrated by the thermal detonator! Since it was "a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away", it's obviously in the Astral Plane, in one of the previous worlds, and currently living characters know about it from their deities letting slip pieces of informations during Communes, thus why Redcloak knows all about him.Resurrecting the Negative LA thread, comments and discussion are very welcome!

Re: MitD XIX: The Potted Plant Is Starting To Look Reasonable
A) Fatty deposits release injected stuff slower and over a drawn out period into the veins, meaning the effect has a buildup instead of a sudden onset.
B) You usually don't inject stuff into arteries or organs because they are deeper in the body and more difficult to find and hit. Not to mention the higher chance of bleeding out when hitting arteries.
C) Most people don't care about the difference between beins and arteries. For them, all blood vessels are veins.

Re: MitD XIX: The Potted Plant Is Starting To Look Reasonable
I've been thinking about the Athasian Nightmare Beast. What if we talked to the person who made it and asked if they remembered sending an advance copy to designers? They probably wouldn't remember it, but there is a chance that they might. The latest post from them I could find was in August 2023, so they might still be online somewhere, and if I can find them, I'll try to ask them.

In other news, as of 1 January 2024 the Heffalump is out of copyright in the US, along with early Mickey Mouse, Orlando and Lady Chatterley‘s Lover.

None of which Rich could have predicted back when MitD was selected and, if the chatter from copyright lawyers in various social medias is to be believed, doesn't mean much where large corporations are involved anyway. But one way or the other, I'll remind everyone that discussion of copyright, free use, and other such lawyer professional topics are frowned upon in this forum.

Re: MitD XIX: The Potted Plant Is Starting To Look Reasonable
Haha! My long-denied belief that MitD is really Oliver Mellors can finally blossom! Whilst the denial of my long-desired want has frustrated, in truth it has heightened my want, for, shall we say, resolution? Indeed, this episode has instructed the equality of need to live in both the mind AND the body.

Re: MitD XIX: The Potted Plant Is Starting To Look Reasonable
Incorrect, it's The House at Pooh Corner that went public domain yesterday. The most notable character introduced in the book is Tigger. The Heffalump is in the original book Winnie-the-Pooh (1926), which was public domain two years ago.
That said, you could argue that the Heffalump doesn't actually appear in the book, and it's implied that it doesn't really exist and that "Heffalump" is just Pooh's way of pronouncing "Elephant". The Heffalump as a distinct monster dates from one of Disney's adaptations and won't be public domain for a while yet.

Re: MitD XIX: The Potted Plant Is Starting To Look Reasonable
I just wanted to post an update on this. Kamelion didn't respond to my message on Arena, and I doubt he's been online there recently. I tried contacting a few people on Reddit who mentioned that he was on Reddit a while back to see if I could find his username, but they didn't respond. Next I'm going to try checking on the Dark Sun Discord and contacting the moderators of r/DarkSun to see if they might know where to get in contact with him.

I'll throw in a third for the impressive effort here. Even if it doesn't pan out, at least you're trying to get us some solid information, which is great.

Re: MitD XIX: The Potted Plant Is Starting To Look Reasonable
I have some news; Kamelion finally responded, and it turns out that he did not send the Athasian Nightmare Beast to anyone before he wrote it up, which he did on the 1st of July 2005. This means that the ANB should be removed from the FBS. The screenshot is attached here.

Re: MitD XIX: The Potted Plant Is Starting To Look Reasonable
Because implying Elanfanforlife and/or Kamelion staged all of this to fraudulently remove the ANB from the list is how we encourage hard workers like Elanfanforlife to play the MitD game.
Maybe we could ask for some chain of custody and not assume the project's impossible? We've already seen Elanfanforlife is in for some effort.TinyMushroom drew my avatarSpoiler: A shaggy dog storyAn evil sorcerer in command of a dark cult is trying to unleash a god-killing abomination more real than the gods themselves.
