Spoiler: Long versionThe Druid learnt of an animal fighting ring under the tavern, tried to free the Displacer Beast but it didn't like him. So instead he freed the polar bear. The awakened barbarian PTSD polar bear. Luckily the diviner had predicted the Druid could talk his way out of it so the bear ran to freedom instead of staying to fight. When the bar owner came back down to investigate the noise, in the ensuing fight the door to the Displacer Beast broke and the beast escaped. Druid used Stinking Cloud and Darkness to cover his tracks, tavern owner was caught in the cloud. By this time the rest of the party (who weren't drunk) came down, the Dirty Harry paladin at the front. He pulled the Tavern Owner out of the cloud just before it dissipated. When he saw the arena, he said "You made your bed, you lie in it"and threw the owner in.
