Likewise! I'm just thinking of the most base, iconic version of each of these. They're is a ton of versatility in the fey folk, but a lot of folk tend to lean on those reliable standards.

I'm used to associating vampires closely with gothic horror, so I prefer them as blood drinking monsters forced to hide in the dark literally and figuratively. They shouldn't go out and... sparkle in the sunlight. It's just too gauche.

I was thinking of that as well. Sometimes fey are less like fairies and more eldritch in nature. Weird and operating on different moral wavelengths than humans. They're often dangerous not so much because they're evil (though that can be the case too), but because they have alien mindsets.

I prefer to dress them as historical nobles and military officers. They just have so much more style than you darling, but it would be rude to point it out.

Appropriate, given that eldritch is likely derived, etymologically speaking, from "elf."

Lovecraft's squamous monstrosities and abominations that defy human understanding of reality may have dominated the term in modern literature but the phrase originally referred to fae beings.

...Also, this conversation sidestepping into the Fae made me realize that... The witches and demons in The Owl House are more like Fae than demons. They're all weirder than then are malicious, they don't really jive with human sensibilities but are understandable enough, come all over the moral spectrum, and their magic is a mixture of aspects of their strange biology and a connection to nature though that last one has been downplayed...

Stepping lightly, a lot of fairy stories are the results of {scrubbed} which really ****ing appropriate to the Owl House for reasons that are spoilerific.

The Titan, from whom's decaying corpse all life in the Boiling Isles emerged, meanwhile, is basically some kind of primordial animalistic nature god

And now I'm wondering if that's a trend, with non-malicious demons having more in common with fae than actual folkloric demons.

I know it's in of a thing in Japanese works, but that's mostly because "youkai" are more like ghosts or fairies than Western conceptions of demons to begin with.

Does anyone else know of another example of this kind of thing? I'm not just pulling a symbolic association out of my ass, am I?

It's fine in Act 1, but he very specifically blends in (and has a moustache) once he's immigrated. Which makes sense, he might have given up blending in once his secret was out.

(I'll also give a pass to any adaptation that goes the Nosferatu route and has him look monstrous.)

That's way less fun, though (especially since in my head, every Dracula still looks like the Bela Lugosi version, just in different clothes).

Dracula is an adult as far as I can tell.

Really, that's doable, but you'd need to plan it out in advance to really see anything - it's about a 4 hour train ride if you go the economical route, 60-90 minutes by plane but that doesn't count for the security checkpoint time and the cost is a lot higher. They thought it would just be an hour or two drive, far but easily day-trippable spur of the moment.

And don't even get me started on Texas. We were lucky to go through the top hat (such a better name than panhandle). Texas is MASSIVE. It's bigger than France.

If you're going to spend 3 and a half days in this, you'd best really like the other person in it with you. Fortunately, we're great friends, so it was great! Plus, now I've road tripped literally coast to coast, so bonus points there.

Imean, many other New Yorkers said it felt like a small bomb or a subway accident or a gas main or water main blowing, so "i thought it was the end of the world" does seem melodramatic to me.

At the very least, the size of the moon and the distance of both rhe sun from the planet and the moon from the planet lining up so that the sun and moon are both right about the same relative size is an insane coincidence. I think Earth is the only known planet to have that occur, but i could be wrong on that.
Yeah, it takes an hour or two just to travel from one end of NYC to the other. If it was decades ago I wonder if that was pre-9/11. Cuz if it was then maybe the airport security wouldn't have been a big issue and maybe it could have been an expensive day trip.

Really? Wow, I had no idea. I wonder if that's why the idea of the American road trip exists but there isn't an equivalent for France or the UK.

Nice. I'm glad you had a good time and a cool experience.

I think it makes sense to think of the earthquake as something grave. A subway accident or an explosion wouldn't cause continuous shaking, so I dunno why people would think that. I personally wouldn't interpret it as the end of the world, but experiencing an earthquake somewhere not earthquake-prone is super scary.

That's true. Apparently the moon is getting further away from Earth, so future species won't get to see total eclipses anymore. I wonder if they'll mind. I think only humans consider total eclipses significant.

Anyway, my staff member from my job and I went to Starbucks yesterday is working hard magic (magic as in persuasion) trying to get me a job to work there. Bonus points the Starbucks is near my house.

    Thanks friend.

I've been slacking off my writing to focus other important things in my life. But I will write again.

Oh, Azata is wonderful, partially because real oddball PCs fit right at home in it but it is following an internal logic much more than Trickster. I was going to take an Aasimar Sword Saint through it but I've restarted as a Damphir Rogue (Knife Master) with Blood Drinker, and might restart or respec to change deity to Desna.

Or I might just play Rogue Trader for a bit
