    The server isn't accepting this url even though it appears to meet the criteria:

    What am I missing?

    I think it might be rejecting imgur as a hosting site, since (as I recall) imgur has stated it won't permit avatar hosting.

    I used to use imgur until they changed their policy. Now I have a dropbox account I use to host my avatar.

    Yeah, according to this post "any URLs from imgur will return an error for incorrect format" so that's probably it.
