Fun fact: The allosaurus appears in Monster Manual II; where it's described as having three fingers on its forelimbs, but depicted with only two.

Wait, didn't it go both ways? So at best it is a "We don't need their Scum Allosaurus" if you ask me. Though later that might be retconned into a "He's the greatest thing evah even though he has like 3 lines Allosaurus" and then all bets are off.

That's the Watsonian reason, anyway. What Doylist explanation there might be is purely something the Giant did as an artistic choice, and since I have no clue what might have influenced it, I'm not going to eat up page space guessing....

T-Rexes have been overdone, and normal sized allosauruses (like the one that we got in AMFES) are not impressive enough, so we got the Bloodfeastosaurus Awesomus instead :)
