Pirates of the Dragon Isles(IC)

{{ JWO hasn't been on in a couple weeks, so I'll NPC Tennin for now.. which mean... Healing! }}

Tennin wakens and begins his morning prayers. Once he is done he makes his way around the crew to demonstrate the power of Obad-Hai. He uses his most powerful healing on Karos and Errow. Then he heals Leroy, Marcus, and Terrance. Finally, seeing the still greavous wounds of Leroy, he uses his healing cantrips to at least get the man mobile.

Unable to do much else for the crew, Tennin heads aft and interacts with his Water Mephit, Aqua for a while.

Pulley, wearing a huge smile, heads over to help patch up the hull. "Ar, tie off this rope'n lower me down."

The cursing continues from within the captain's cabin. The most recognizable snippet that can be heard (and not in orcish) is "is there anything on this damned ship that isn't trapped or cursed?"

"Dammit, I told the captain to get one of us if he was goin' to open anythin'."

Thunk Chunk leaves the deck now that the ship preparations are proceeding smoothly without his help and goes bellow deck to hammer on Grish's door.

"Oi, captain! Are ya all right in there? Ya be needin' one o' the priestlings?"

After announcing himself Thunk Chunk turns the door-handle and begins pushing the door open.

Marcus

Marcus approaches Riddle after mending the sails. "Riddle, what were you and pulley laughing about? Pulley isn't involved in whatever cap'n Grish is shouting about, is he? He seemed pretty upset after the cap'n outbid him on some of the magic loot last night."

Riddle smiles and looks at Marcus, "Nay. The Captain got what she bid on for sure. One might suggest that she might have done a bit more research on the Captain before taking over their roles."

"It would seem that the Captain has indeed acquired the cursed gear from the previous Captain. A valuable lesson, he may have learned. Ar.. Yes indeed... Talk to yur crew. I'm sure Pulley'd have told him if he'd but asked, for Pulley's been on this fine vessel for 4 Captains now."

"Good gods, why did that halfling want this accursed thing so much? On the other hand, I'm not sure I want to know the answer to that. Have the priests healed the crew yet? I want to find some unsuspecting merchant ship to take some frustration out on."

Ulfgar laughs out loud at his new captain's plight. "Come on their shorty, lets get ye over board and fixin' this ship."

Thunk Chunk

Thunk Chunk had opened the door enough to see the now female Grish and his mind short-circuited. Part of him told him to attack the intruder another part recoiled at the ugly half-orc woman, and still another part of him recognized the thing as Grish.

He stood dumbly for a moment in the threshold before muttering, "Yarr... everyone's been healed, as much as Tennin could, but the death priest hasn't been usin' any spells yet. I... I be askin' about some more merchants... captain." and slamming the door.

He walked back up to the deck and stood looking off into space for a while, trying to figure out what happened. Shaking his head to stop his brain from thinking he turns around to Riddle just in time to catch his comment.

"What happened, why the hell is the captain a woman now? Be that the curse?"

As the joke finally settles into him Thunk Chunk almost collapses with laughter.

"Now wonder the last captain be likin' women so much! Bwahahahaha!"

Karos

Karos is relieved to be fealing more like himself and oblivious to the goings on around him. The only thing he hears is the hobogoblin coming back from the captain's chambers roaring something about the captian being a woman. This should be interesting.

Pulley heads down the patch the side of the hull and remove the stray arrows. Eventually Manny approaches the now irate Captain and asks, "Ar, Madam Captain, what course should I set?"

When the captain doesn't answer, Manny backs away slow like and says, "I'll just hold our current course. It'll be a day or two before we hit the narrows."

The ship slows a bit as the various sails are taken down and patches sewn in to repair the holes. Pulley completes his low rope task of tarring the arrow holes in the lower hull.

...

Mid-Day, the cook brings around a thick hearty lamb and potato stew. Much tastier and more filling than that fish dish he made for breakfast.

The captain gets her first mate and sailmaster to review the charts with (more precisely, for) her to determine what will seem like a reasonable course to take.

Thunk Chunk

Thunk Chunk approaches Grish after helping Ulfgar send Pulley down the rope.

"The ship be in good order captain, Pulley be fixin' the holes in the hull and it don't seem like there be any other problems. If I can be makin' a suggestion, we be needin' more men but I be spoilin' for another fight. What say we hit one more ship before goin' to port?"

Once he hears back from the captain Thunk Chunk will inspect the rest of the ship, making sure that everything is in working order.

Karos

Since nothing seems to be going on that presses his attention Karos decides that his first duty as Sailmaster will be to hop up in the crows nest and see if there is anything to see.

Karos peers around with great intensity for quite a while. He see no ships upon the horizon, but he does manage the last glimpse of land to the west and the ship continues it north-easterly course.

After a hot hour or two in the sun, Karos turns his attention to the nearby water and the thought of a cool drink or swim. As he gazes longingly at the light blue waters, a dark form beneath the surface surges up alongside the ship. Before he can even manage to yell, the form swerves toward the side of the ship, ramming it.

The ship lurches from the impact and a loud 'crack' sound is heard below decks. A moment later, a large bluish form full of tentacles pulls itself up the side of the ship onto deck.

Karos keeps his feet firmly beneath himself and takes only a moment to compose himself after his initial surprise over the creatures arrival. He pulls out his bow and fires an arrow into its mass.

The sharp hit on the ship's side sends Thunk Chunk sprawling onto the deck. Jarring his head he gets a good look at the tentacled thing but is too shaken to act quickly.

Round 1

The crew, caught mostly off guard, doesn't respond well to this sudden threat. Pulley, below decks, inspecting the locks on the new office cabins, is nearly knocked over when the beast struck the ship. However, he quickly responds, pulling out his weapon and moved toward the ladder up.

Karos manages to avoid falling from the crow's nest as the ship is rocked violently. Using his bow, he fires an arrow down upon the blue beast, but it simply bounces off the things scaly hide.

Errow, having been lounging in his hammock is rocked gently by the impact. He leaps to his feet and rushes out on deck with his longsword ready. Terrance, having also been relaxing in the crew quarters, leaps to his feet and follows Errow.

Riddle, having been on deck when the beast hauled itself up out of the water, is unsure what to do, having already expended every spell he knew on healing. Turning to his god, he attempts to turn the beast.

Manny was thrown aside by the impact and manages to only struck to his feet and rub the lump on his head. The blue beast, issues some sort of verbalization, it sounds like a stream of curses from a thousand languages all at once. At the same time, it continues to pull itself up from the depths. One of its clawed tentacles wraps itself around the mast, sending bits of wood flying and rocking the mast back and forth. At the same time a tentacle surges forward groping for Thunk Chunk. A third tentacle rips the door to the Captain's Quarters off its hinges.

Round 1 - Continued

Momentarily delayed Ulfgar rushes forward, hopping down the ladder to stand beside the blue beast, using his momentum to throw a massive fist at the beast, however, he slips on the wet deck as he lands and doesn't even come close to striking the beast.

Marcus moves towards the ladder up, but pauses on the first step when he sees the massive blue tentacles writhing above. Willis just stands and watches Marcus, smiling. Grish, knocked down the sudden shaking of the ship, hauls herself back to her feet and draws her weapon, taking a single step to the top of the ladder down to the main deck from the quarterdeck.

Thunk Chunk swings his new blade at the beast's tentacle and only manages a marginal contact which doesn't even pierce its hide.

Marcus

Marcus's hands move in an everchanging gesture, and he quietly says "Beast of the abyss, slay this foe." A viper similar to the one he summoned the day before appears next to the tentacled blue thing and strikes.

Round 2

Ulfgar recovers and grounds himself before slamming the beast with two massive blows from his mighty fists. Pulley, pauses and waits for Marcus to go up before he does. Karos leans out from the crows nest and fires a pair of arrows down upon the deck. Unfortunately, his arrows do just that, strike the deck.

Errow moves up and swings his fine longsword at the nearest tentacle, but doesn't even manage to contact it as the tentacles flail around blindly. Terrance circles around and hacks at the tentacle latched onto the mast. He strikes it hard, but the blow doesn't seem to inflict any damage upon the beast. Riddle, having seen his attempt to dispel the beast fail, decides to use his morningstar. He swings but slips on the wet deck and doesn't manage to land his blow.

Manny stands up and regains his position at the helm while the beast's tentacles flail about seeming to strike out at random. One strikes out at Terrance, its clawed underside slashing him across the arm before the tentacle regains its grip on the mast. Another tentacle lashes out at Ulfgar, but he manages to duck just in time. The third tentacle strikes at Thunk Chunk easily striking him. The clawed underside of the tentacle leaves a massive bloody gash across Thunk Chunk's leg.

While Pulley and Willis look on, Marcus summons a tiny viper to strike the massive beast from the abyss. The snake bites the beast's nearby tentacle, but it doesn't seem to notice or care. Grish hops down from the quarterdeck, swinging her weapon at the beast, but doesn't put on much of a display for the crew.

Thunk Chunk, on the other hand, uses a mighty slash to sever one of the tentacles. The blue beast's severed limb sprays blue blood all over Errow and Thunk Chunk. {{ Both must make Fortitude Saves }} Gramps moves up behind the front row of fighters with his club, ready to defend his ship(should he be needed).
