Re: A Small Wager A Practical Guide to Evil
Well then, that makes five of us. White Knight, Alchemist, Seer, Rogue Sorcerer, and Apprentice. A Band of Five, to slay a nigh-unkillable villain, who's cheated death once before. A tale as old as time.

Re: A Small Wager A Practical Guide to Evil
Beat me by ten minutes!
We have been gathered, be Providence or design, to slay the Black Knight. We should be wary, as he is a canny foe even pressed and bereft of numbers. After all, nothing is more dangerous than a cornered villain.

Re: A Small Wager A Practical Guide to Evil
What was once the Black Knight falls to the ground, armour clattering with an abnormal sound.
Filled with naught but choking dust, before shattering into shadows and rust.
A dark fog erupts from the remains, seemingly covering all in iron chains.
As the bindings fade away, you know the end is not today.
Cazero has been judged, and struck thrice more.

A wandering spirit, forever damned.
Aspects:
- Ghost: During the Night you are invulnerable.
- Possess: Upon your death, turn a random person responsible into a Villain.
Cazero sustained six minor injuries

Re: A Small Wager A Practical Guide to Evil
Oh god damn it. And we all voted for Cazero.
I will say that I don't particularly like this mechanic, since there is literally no way to know who ended up as a Villain here. So basically we just have to get lucky.
Well. Hey Caedorus. If you claim who you're going to be stealing ahead of time, and are truthful about it, I won't block you. That's the best detection mechanism we have here, I think.Last edited by Let'sGetKraken; 2024-04-15 at 03:28 PM.

Re: A Small Wager A Practical Guide to Evil
I will second that. If I was the new wolf and won, I would feel like I didnt earn the victory. If I was the new wolf and lost, I would feel even worse for getting culted by a bastard mechanic at the 11th hour to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. And if I was town, I would feel like this was just moving the goalposts to prolong a game that was basically over.
The fact that its random is just also man, that is frustrating. There wont be much in the way town can do to solve either, given that everyone has claimed and has shared parts of their powers.
We have left in the game:
1) flat_footed
2) 3SecondCultist
3) LetsGetKraken
4) Xihirli
5) Caedorus
Am I missing anybody? Because if the wolf gets an NK tonight, were down to 4 players, (potentially 2 townies, 1 wolf, and 1 neutral who seems very okay with wolfsiding). Thats LYLO.Spoiler: Stuff I'm Working OnSmall Justice

Re: A Small Wager A Practical Guide to Evil
Merel is still alive, I believe. So not quite. Caedorus might also townside, who knows. Or cease to exist once he wins. Math is tough.
I think it largely depends on how the night attack works.
The bright side is that we can basically ignore all non-claim parts of the thread before the start of today. I don't think Book would put four wolves, three neutrals, and an only nominally predictable culting mechanic in a game with thirteen players, even if we do have some good powers. So we can safely assume that everyone was town, and telling the truth about their abilities (still not sure what happened with Xihirli tbh but this generally holds up).Last edited by Let'sGetKraken; 2024-04-15 at 03:48 PM.

Re: A Small Wager A Practical Guide to Evil
Good news, everyone! If Caedorus is still around D5, hes the wolf!
- - - Updated - - -
Actually, its pretty unlikely Caedorus is the wolf regardless. The condition of the new culted wolf is responsible for Cazeros death, and Caedorus was the only one who didnt vote for him yesterday.
So the wolf can only be one of 5 people (including myself, I guess). Unless for some reason Caedorus was lying before, we should get a flip saying he won by using Steal 5 times.
Bet you werent happy I kept you around for an extra phase by Confiscating your Steal, eh? Turns out my Aspect doesnt warn you, either. I had a nice little contingency planned for if Cazero survived somehow.
That means the wolf-who-is-probably-not-Caedorus would want to target someone else who is demonstrably town. No sense going after the Neutral who is probably going to be exiting stage left imminently.Last edited by 3SecondCultist; 2024-04-15 at 05:10 PM.

Re: A Small Wager A Practical Guide to Evil
You winning is based on someone being changed or dead, by your own admission. If you win, the person you targeted is changed, and therefore now a Villain. Therefore you picking right wins the game for both you and Town.

They can also die, if they're not the wolf, but then we know where to defend, if the wolf doesn't want to be caught. Otherwise, you either clear someone or find a wolf.

Re: A Small Wager A Practical Guide to Evil
No no, please, don't all speak up at once.
Caedorus, it would be exceedingly helpful if you at least indicate whether stealing from anyone will win you the game tonight. I am personally very inclined to allow you to exit victorious, since that leaves us with one person who can potentially not wolfside, and so long as you're not screwing us over I'm much happier having more victors. Plus I feel bad about using you as a backup vote way back. But sharing information here is useful. If you're going to incidentally **** with town, I'd rather know now so we can plan around it.
Cultist, assuming you're still town, if it is likely Caedorus can win tonight, I would suggest against interfering. Having a neutral gone benefits us, I think.
I have more to share/comment, will try to get a legacy post up just in case. But of course, none of you can trust me anymore.
Well, apart from Caedorus, hopefully.Last edited by Let'sGetKraken; 2024-04-16 at 08:14 AM.

Re: A Small Wager A Practical Guide to Evil
Hmm, I don't really know any. Basically how my role works is just "target someone, gain their power, do it 5 times to win".
What I'll share is the specifics of my second aspect: Use. It is what allows me to, well, use the aspects I Stole. I can use Use 3 times, but each stolen aspect only once.
This is why I was so boggled when cultist Confiscated Steal. He literally cannot Use it. The target doesn't lose the aspect I Steal, and he can't Use the aspect, so it has no effect whatsoever in his hands.Quotes

Re: A Small Wager A Practical Guide to Evil
I stole your aspect so that I could protect other townies - who you have been stealing from all game, and had a higher chance of stealing from than the sole remaining, possibly already-dead wolf - from further thefts in order to close out the game. It's nothing personal, but I wanted to make sure that players like Xi and Kraken were clear to full claim and use their powers without you taking from them.
Confiscating Steal for D4 meant that Kraken was safe, and I have a protect power to keep him safe during N4 as well, so that wasn't a bluff earlier when I said I could keep your Steal from doing anything to him.
Also, did you see my full claim? I also have the Use aspect. I just Used Steal on Cazero during the day, hoping to deny him his Resist in case for some reason he was still alive at the end of D4 (and thus clearing the way for Kraken's power to block an NK). Alas, he died and my plans were spoiled, but it was still a well thought out plan on my end.
If you have Confiscate and plan on Using it on me, that means you already stole my power. Which makes my own theft perfectly justified in hindsight.
Finally, I'm pretty sure you're not a wolf because the confirmed Narrator flip specifically called out 'the people responsible for Cazero's death' and you're the only one who didn't vote for him. The fact that you're a neutral is corelative, not causative.
- - - Updated - - -
Ah, I didn't know that Steal didn't deny the target their power. Still, I had a valid workaround that was only really stopped by the target only being dead.Spoiler: Stuff I'm Working OnSmall Justice

With rise of sun comes the demise of one.
Rogue Sorcerer (Above)
Charlatan to the powers you hold, once smoke and mirrors now blaze and gleam of arcane might.
Aspects:
- Confiscate: Borrow a random power from another. Your target regains this power after two phases (including the phase you stole it). You may use this once per cycle.
- Use: Once per each; deal a minor injury, protect someone, or sense the alignment of another. You may use this during any phase. You may also use a Confiscated power, this returns it immediately.
3SecondCultist sustained two minor injuries and one major injury.

Re: A Small Wager A Practical Guide to Evil
Gah, did I not say often enough I wouldn't be winning this night because I wanted revenge first? I've use all three uses of Use now, so I'll be winning end of this phase - barring my Steal failing.
The aspect I Confiscated was Use, btw. Which is hilarious, considering I can't actually use it.
I'm going to go over a list of people to see who would be best pick to Steal from.

Re: A Small Wager A Practical Guide to Evil
Interesting. So you killed Cultist, then? That has very interesting implications.
I'd prefer you steal from Xihirli.
- - - Updated - - -
It's a good gamble, but when I flip town, what's your plan for victory? You'd still be outnumbered.
That said. I can do one thing here. I blocked Merel last night, negating nothing. Either Cultist stole her power (unlikely, since it's different from the ...? I got when I tried to block Merel N2), or she didn't activate it.
If Caedorus killed Cultist, then I suspect that Xihirli attacked flat, who survived with Rise. Which makes me doubly grateful that I didn't block flat, which was my other potential target.
So Merel is clear as town - and whats more, as soon as she confirms that she did not activate anything last night, she confirms that I am telling the truth here as well. Which means that I targeted her, and couldn't have attacked anyone. Which proves that Xihirli is lying.
So, Xihirli.
- - - Updated - - -
It's also possible that both Caedorus and Xihirli attacked Cultist, for the record.Last edited by Let'sGetKraken; 2024-04-16 at 04:45 PM.
