And now my headcanon is that Shojo play-acted for the audience of which only he was aware. I wonder if they thought of it as a serialized drama or a sitcom?

It's certainly possible. A few rumours going around the palace about "Shojo's alone in the throne room doing weird stuff again" wouldn't harm the reputation he was trying to develop.

I imagine they'd be annoyed that Shojo was trying to rules-lawyer his way past the Paladin oaths.

And/or would've been laughing like maniacs that the "senile old man" routine let him, say, threaten O'Chul with diarrhea duty.
