Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
Just so you know, I don't know how characters will react to situations, as very little is predetermined. All I do is present the situation and try and see how the characters will react. If Kayl and Torn encounter a Frost Worm, I don't know how they'll fight it.
Comic 253 is up. Its offical, Powers is tarrasquekin.

Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
Response to comic: What the &%$#@?
Response to writing style: Don't take this the wrong way, but your writing tactic of throwing your characters into problems and ad-libbing the resolution does seem an awful lot like the stratagy of the TV show Lost.
Respose to leaving ABR: Please come back, okay?

Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
Then again I didn't see any cybernetics on her, nor did kayl ever pass off as a technophobe.
And what the heck was this comic supposed to be? I'd have to say this was one of your lower quality comics. Too much thinking, super work of art on the wall, with pretty much nothing else, a joke at the end that feels rather forced.
As for writing style, maybe taking some time to figure out motivations for the characters? If you want a OotS style Touhou avatar, send me a request.

Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
As for the first panel, yeah. It was Rand trying to figure out what the hell's with Xeno and Powers. Unfortunately yes the joke was majorly rushed. I'll probably remake it if I can find a better joke.
As for the picture in the background, its a banner I made for someone not long ago, but they never claimed it, so I decided to just put it in as a painting.Last edited by Emperor Ing; 2009-08-30 at 07:24 AM.

Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
I am also a member of an incredibly rare few in the multiverse in possession of a great and unimaginable superpower few can even begin to comprehend its existence. And everyone else there (in ABR) doesn't like that idea.

Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
How does railroading infringe on common sense ? It can even sometimes be a product of common sense. (Not that I am supportive of it unless absolutely necessary, such as when someone does incredibly illogical things or when no-one is advancing the plot in any constructive way.)
To be fair, Rand, common sense is certainly not a characteristic solely professed by you in ABR, and I don't think your are an exemplary of it in a story where your characters routinely violates the laws of physics without any consistency.

Given that magic is outside the laws of physics, any comic that uses magic violates the laws of physics. :P

Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
Actually, I almost agree with Rand here. Powerful characters are countered with aloofness/other powerful characters/lots of soldiers. I think we could have survived Rand being in FI, and I can understand why he left when told that his character since the beginning would not be able to participate that much.

Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
One of the biggest problems i've had with you MM is that you seem to work tirelessly just to try to shut me down.
I try to advance the plot,
"nope, sorry. not happening."
I try to advance the plot again, this time less dramatically
"Can't letcha do that."
I try to move
"Nuh uh"
I-"nope"
AW COME ON IS THAT ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY?!
Another problem is that I feel like one half of ABR doesn't want me there anyway.Last edited by Emperor Ing; 2009-09-03 at 02:51 PM.

Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
Please, could you provide an example of that ?If you mean the Final Boss battle, the only occasion where I did something resembling your complain, I interrupted you only once, when you tried to use the magical ray attack. And I confess, that was because I was lazy and didn't want to add a lot of panels to an already tiresome story arc. The Final Fight was also the only place where I truly railroaded, I believe. A single occasion does not equal a trend.
Now that's not true. Even I wouldn't mind you at all if your characters had a more reasonable power level. The only thing I mind is that you seem to be overreacting, but that's easily corrected by taking a deep breath and looking at the whole of the situation before posting. It's not an IM client; take your time.Last edited by Mad Mask; 2009-09-03 at 03:25 PM.

Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
I don't think anyone in ABR doesn't want you there or really dislikes you, you're just kinda the guy that provokes and starts arguments (Entirely in jest, I'm sure) and we just follow on. It's arguing for the sake of entertainment.

Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
Well, in Darklord Bright's defense, you did seem pretty whiney that time.
But still, just because of that, doesn't mean you should leave. Even though you overreact and aren't rational and have no sense of storytelling and your characters are flawless Mary Sues and you over exaggerate and you unnecessarily villainify Mad Mask and you're whiney...
...I forget where I was going with this.

Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
He was a tad unnecessarily harsh, no?
I have anger management issues, my character(s) isn't nearly as powerful as he should be (he'd literally be a Mary Sue ), and I am rational and have a different sense of storysteelling I just get shut down too fast. And I have anger management issues and I do villanify MM because he annoys me to no end and I have anger management issues, and your tangent ends there.

Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
Meh. If he didn't say it, I probably would have.
But you know what? It's okay. We all have our flaws, our shortcomings and our *thumbs through thesaurus* imperfections, and we all make fun of one and other over them, but in the end are we not just one big, happy family?
Perhaps I'm just really emotional, but I seriosuly believe that those of us that have been in ABR have some sort of connection. There is something about making comics together. Something you shouldn't leave behind.
...I could be wrong, though. Maybe it's just me that feels the connection with everybody in ABR whose written with me long enough.
Either way, please don't leave.Last edited by Green-Shirt Q; 2009-09-03 at 05:05 PM.

Randomizer, could you please provide some evidence that I am a harsh and railroading kind of person ? Something other than the excruciatingly slow boss fight ? Please ?

Re: Well That Was Unexpected. (backstory comic)
I wouldn't have. I agree with Rand, that was enormously insensitive. If somebody leaves, they would tell people they left. That's what people do. It's what DLB or you would've done, too.
And MM, sorry, but you are actually railroading a fair bit. The final arc (The Battle of Alphentica), you are pretty much 'this is how it will happen'. In your defense, others such as KP and TS do the same. Not to mention: This 'secret project' is actually very annoying. You are only telling a select few, 'the elite' or some crap, what it is. I think it's about time you tell us, because every ABR'er has the right to know what is planned.

I would, but unfortunately my PM box fills up fast.
And in case you're wondering where I am, I am here, working on this comic
Comic 255 is up. Here's a useless fact you don't care about: We now have as many comics as Samus Aran has in her maximum possible missle count in any game! (Without mods)

Seems as though Kaylethis forgot that red dragons have alternate form 2-3 times a day, unless she didn't bother or just doesn't want to do it.
