Piles of rags and debris litter the floor. Clearly some sort of creature bed down here.

Hey! Wait for me, dammit! Skamos, after finishing looking around the cave, catches up with the rest.
(Since Skamos spent a while searching the cave, he goes at the end of the marching order. Also, do we get our Encounter powers back?)

Kathra rushes forwards with the exploration, quickly taking her place at the head of the column. If anyone was going to get the chance to kill off loose kobolds, it would be her.

Corrin will take up the rear position, continuing his paranoia about being surrounded.

@M0rt: Well technically you're supposed to take a 5-minute rest, but since you guys aren't being threatened anyway I waived it.

This chamber is, if anything, even filthier than the others. Piles of dirty furs cover the floor, a plate of rancid meat festers in one corner, and the walls are covered in crude graffiti in a foreign tongue. A makeshift throne of rocks is piled against the far wall. A brazier of charcoal placed in front of the throne warms and lights the room, but does nothing to relieve the fetid animal stink. One pile of furs appears to be moving slightly, as if something were shivering under it.

*whisper*Well, I guess it's the hobgoblin's bedroom. Perhaps we should check what's under this pile of furs. I could use my Mage Hand spell to pick it up from the distance.

[WillWolf]

Riardon followed suit and whispered, "due it."

[Abardam]

((Since it's been a day without anyone contradicting, I'm gonna go ahead.))

Skamos conjures up a spectral hand, which moves over the pile of furs. It manages to grab hold of a small shivering tail, though the rest of the creature is too heavy to lift. Grabbing the tail has an effect, though, as the creature jumps to its feet all of a sudden, scattering the furs.

The creature is a kobold, and he looks warily at the party of adventurers. After a while, he speaks, in broken Common:
"Me Meepo, great king of kobolds. Who you be?"

((Also, announcement: I may be gone for the weekend.))

..this one seems willing to...talk... Kathra mutters. Discouraged that she hasn't gotten the chance to wipe the floor with some of them yet..

Hiding under the covers is an interesting behavior for one who claims the title of king. We are the ones sent by the village to deal with the menace that has been plaguing them. So far, you and your followers are out top suspects. That, and the fact that those guarding the cavern behind us are dead is all you need to know at this point.

[Abardam]

The kobold pauses, unsure of how to react to this news. He starts to talk, a few times, but cuts himself off. Suddenly, though, he throws himself to the floor, groveling and making loud sobbing noises.

For the briefest fraction of a second, Meepo appeared to have a shrewd, calculating look in his beady eyes, before collapsing to the ground.

"Not tribe's fault!" he cries. "Was all that big bully hobbo's idea! Made tribe leave home to come here to this smelly hole. We no like attacking the humans, honest! He makes us do it!"

[Morty]

Skamos frowns. I don't trust this scaly bugger, but I can't put my finger on it... I think you should handle it, Corrin.

Corrin

As you like, Skamos. Turning back to the kobold, I don't trust you either. Something in your eyes, I think, right before your big speech... and the fact that your friends out there seemed to be protecting him. Corrin steps closer to the kobold on the floor and places his sword, which now seems to glow, right in front of the kobold's eyes. Try another story.

Divine challenge on the "king"

The kobold quickly scrambles back. "No, no, please! I help! Show you where hobbos be hiding! That what you want, true? Stop attacks on human town? Look, if you can kill them, I, I-" he rummages through the pile, drawing out a fist-sized ruby. "I give you this! And," he offers his bronze crown, "this too, if masters want it!"

He pushes though the back wall.

"Secret way, you see? Not expecting attack from behind."

((Probably the last update, unless they have internet where I'll be staying, and even if that's true, I don't think I can run any combats.))

[Morty]

Alright then, kobold. Lead on, but if you try to double-cross us, you won't live long enough to regret it.

Erias

The Sunlord feels he can trust this creature is telling the truth, even if he does has some alterior motives. "Sounds like we follow this king, to the bigger fish," Erias says thinking to himself how any fish would have to be bigger.

[Suzuro]

Kathra is slightly disappointed that she doesn't get to skin some kobold, but she goes along with it.


A'right, then, kobold she nearly spits. Show th' way.

The kobold leads your group through a number of pitch-black corridors. At first, the path slopes upwards, but then, as you hear the sound of running water, you begin to walk down the slippery slope, eventually coming to wade through the water. After a few minutes, another campfire is visible, and you can see forms moving around.

As you follow Meepo closer, you can see four orange-skinned humanoids. Two are crouching behind a table which is on its side, wielding bows, and the other two are in front of it, clutching flails. You can also see a lone kobold, the survivor of your earlier skirmish, sitting on the floor and licking his wounds.

Kathra rages that these....these...abominations still exist, and draws her axe and walks forward.

The closest hobgoblin utters an explosive oath in Goblin. But he is quick on his feet. He takes a step back and shoots an arrow at Erias ((1d20+9)[14], for (1d10+4)[8]; if it hits, all hobgoblins get +2 to attack against Erias) but he dodges it!
