Mya
Trying to move them again my starts with her hands, then feet, then her dagger and axe. Just to make sure. Stuck. Good. She says standing up and looking at the others. You turn. She directs to Phiranthyl.

Re: Aerokean Chronicles: Part 1
Phiranthyl Olminnakra
The elf hesitates as the others all step forward and place their gems in the various cups. He spends a few moments in thoughtful concentration after casting his Detect Magic spell, trying to discern the type of magic in the area.
Spoiler
Can I get a list of what would have appeared as obviously magical from the other people?
As the expectant eyes turn towards him and the last gem, he tosses it into the air a few times, guaging its heft. finally, with a harsh phrase in his native tongue, he lobs the gem over to Mya who is standing over the cups.
After the stone leaves his hand, he draws his sword from its sheath.

Re: Aerokean Chronicles: Part 1
Otheym
<Merchant's Tongue>"What in the name of the Nine Hells....!"Otheym, being a couple steps back from the column, sees the fiery one utter the harsh words and draw his sword after eyeing everyone intently.
Without a conscious thought, the old soldier draws his sword and taps out a rythym upon the ground with his right foot. The falchion gleams in the light of morning, singing as it is drawn from its sheath across the wide, metallic back of the mechanoid. He grips it in two hands, readying himself for combat. The blue glow in his eyes increases in intensity.
Remembering the language issues, as carefully as he can says: "What think, fire-elf?"
Spoiler
- Initiative (ugh) (1d20+1)[2]
- Issuing "Come" command to Ma'Keer
- Sense Motive (ugh - stupid no skill points) (1d20+1)[15]; what feeling am I getting?
- Holding action pending Phiranthyls action. If he attacks a party member, attack him to best of ability first, including using Ma'Keer to flank him (do this if possible). Pull no punches. If no attack forthcoming, continue to hold sword at the ready, jumping in to defend the weaker ones if need be.
- Otheym considers Mya, Jaz, and Joesech physically weaker than himself and would move to physically interpose himself between them and threats; combine this with attack actions if possible
- Note that shield is currently on the worm's saddle, so ignore my shield bonus
EDIT: dumbed down the speech

Re: Aerokean Chronicles: Part 1
Mya
Mya catches the gem in her left hand with ease. Suddenly one sword is drawn and then another! Her bodys tenses up like a cat and she coils to spring away. Her right hand drifts towards her axe hanging off her belt. WHOA! WHOA! she yells, hoping this was a mix up. Friends! Whoa. She urges trying to avoid the fight. Figures. You can take half a dozen guys from just as many worlds, and they cant even spend an afternoon without trying to kill each other.

Sense Motive Phiranthyl [roll1]
Sense Motive Otheym [roll2]
Once/If things settle Mya will retreat from outside the circle and place the stone.

Re: Aerokean Chronicles: Part 1
Kyrsus
The sounds of two swords being unsheathed catch Kyrsus' attention rather quickly, and his eyes widen momentarily, then narrow quickly. With a fluid motion, he draws his own sword from its scabbard and raises it with a small flourish. His left hand already carries his shield, and he raises it as well into a ready position.
Not having seen exactly who drew first, Kyrsus' eyes glance back and forth between the elf and the machine, weighing what he knows about elves against what he doesn't about strange mechanical men.
In the end, he adopts a simple combat stance, with his shield and scimitar both held a little away from his body, ready for his reactions to guide them. Scowling, he then speaks, carefully choosing words that he specifically sought in his studies.
"You ambush... I kill you."
Spoiler
initiative - (1d20+7)[25]
Kyrsus will probably have tried specifically to learn the following words in addition to the bare basics (I, you, food, bathroom, "I do not speak common," want): Attack, guard, scout, ambush, camp, warrior, enemy, ambush, kill, don't kill, area, magic, deity, make.
His idea is that these choice words can be strung together to communicate most of the things he would really want to get across. such as "Make guard area." or "Ambush!" or "Kill magic enemy!"Lantanese gnome avatar by the talented Honest Tiefling.

Re: Aerokean Chronicles: Part 1
The uneasy atmosphere stemmed from a single draw of a sword; The adventurers, unsure of each others intentions, lost within the barriers language, stared at each other intently. A gust of wind blows through the forest, rustling the leaves and carrying birds as they chirp their love song. What will happen next?

Re: Aerokean Chronicles: Part 1
Phiranthyl Olminnakra
Phir had expected Mya to catch the gem and insert it into the last hole, the large golem's actions took him somewhat by surprise.
Sense Motive Result
Spoiler
The fiery elf seemed cautious and wary, but it did not seem aimed at any of the gathered people, rather at the notion of the last gem being slotted into its place. He had seemed focused on the cups and gems before blades were drawn and shouting began.
A questioning glare spread across his face as all attention turned on him. Exasperated thought was apparent as he searched for any of the words he learned that might help,
"I.....here...<bah no>, mmmm.....ready...for..strange"
Each word was an effort for him, but to accentuate his point he raised the tip of his blade and pointed it to the center of the ring of cups and repeated,
"Strange."
Then he shook his sword to bring attention back to it and repeated, while gesturing to Marcus and nodding vehemently,
"Ready!"
The elf then made an exaggerated display of shifting his feet and settling into a defensive posture with his blade and shield at the ready.Last edited by Diarmuid; 2008-04-29 at 08:27 AM.

Re: Aerokean Chronicles: Part 1
Otheym
"Hrrrrrrrrrrmmmmmm......" came the disapproving rumble from somewhere deep in his chest. "Caution good. Warn people better." He fixes his cold blue stare upon the fire-elf for what seems eternity, all the more unnerving since he has no need to blink. The dichotomy between the deep blue of the warforged eyes and the fiery red of the elf's are readily apparent to all.
Ma'Keer arrives, hissing and tail stinger twitching rapidly. Without taking his eyes of the elf, Otheym quickly swings himself on the mighty worm's back while sheathing the sword. He takes up his shield and lance, and with a couple expert heel taps, guides the worm backwards, now glancing at the other party members as well - especially Krysus <that human plays things uncomfortably close to his vest>, but mostly watching the elf.
<Why can't I be with my old unit. We read each other's thoughts, with no need for speaking. Damned impetuous, undisciplined fire elves. Can't trust anything on fire, tend to get burned. Learned that a long time ago back home.>
Once he has back-slid the worm about thirty feet, he readies again for combat, and nods to Mya "Put gem. Then run. I protect." Turning to Phiranthyl, "Make trust later. Maybe. Now work same," gesturing to the broken column. The eyes are still shining brightly, but may have had the barest hint of dimming.

Re: Aerokean Chronicles: Part 1
The gem dulls, and a few seconds later, the first gem that Josech had placed glows blue, and a line extends around the circle. A shining circle is now present on top of the stone foundation and those who were on the foundation is nowhere to be seen...
People who were in the circle
SpoilerYou find yourselves in a well masoned stone room. It is well lit by orbs of light on the 20 ft high ceiling. The room itself looks to be around 100 by 100 ft. There is a huge slab of stone inscribed with mystic runes and stone arches as tall as a grown man with flat tops that encircle the perimeter of the room, except for behind the slab of stone. There is also a well preserved symbol on the center of the floor. There are no obvious exits.
This is the symbol on the floor.

Josech
Josech shrugs playfully as he watches Otheym charge in, before holding a hand to his forehead and chanting in what sounds like (as far as his voice can portray, anyway) a soft growl. "[Draconic]Throw aside the blows of my enemies."A field of force energy seems to adhere to his figure, and he, too, steps into the light.

Spoiler
IC: "Hate magic. Magic sword under-sit. Other magic under-sit not. Hrrrmmmmm....." Otheym shakes his head at the halfling, conveying that he has no idea of the symbols on the floor. He takes a look around, looking for clues.
Seeing the arches, he gestures to Jaz, points to him, then cupping his hands together and lifting, then pointing to the tops of the arches, and puts his hand over his brow and turns as if he is looking around. "Yes?"
Once Jaz is above observing the room from a higher vantage point, Otheym will make a circuit of the room, touching the wall as he goes, feeling for illusionary surfaces or hidden doors (or clues in general).

Re: Aerokean Chronicles: Part 1
The symbols do not ring a bell to anyone.
As Otheym works around the room, he doesn't feel any illusions, but the slab of stone with the mystic runes on it is too high for him to reach the top alone. Nothing registers with Ma'keer as well.
