Re: Key of Destiny
"Hum... dangerous stuff. Like goblins and big, big rats and stuff." He replied, his voice growing more and more weak. He'd started looking sideways and down at the ground, visibly wondering why he was leading people there - or considering entering it himself.
Nonetheless, he lead the group away from old Halthorne's tent.

Re: Key of Destiny
William Jackson
William followed the others and Cole, and nodded. He had little to add, as he followed the group. The wares of the gnome's stall had not interested him very much, and he was fine where they were heading now. Goblins and rats in the sewers may not be the most heroic adventure, but it was an adventure nonetheless..

Sir Vazler
The squire smiled slightly as Cole's courage waned, and placed a reassuring gauntleted-hand on his robed shoulder. "You're in Miss Ivistka's charge - she'll not let any harm come to you."
Content that the group would need protecting in the sewers, he followed behind the sorcerer as he lead on.

Re: Key of Destiny
Tobin had no trouble finding a suitable cloth: his skilled fingers were soon holding a worn-out cotton fabric which had just the right size. Talia was also given back Brightmane, who happily nudged her with his nose when she took the reins again.
Cole gave Sir Vazler a small, unconvinced nod before leading the group out of the bazaar itself. He seemed to always keep the town's wall in view as he trudged to a cluster of small, crooked trees. There was an incredible amount of undergrowth there - a good deal of it sported spines, too, making the way all the more difficult. It didn't take too long, however, before the teenager found what he was looking for: a particularly twisted bush, between a two rather large roots from a nearby tree. "There. The bush is actually planted in a box which can be lifted. It leads to a tunnel connecting to the sewers."Last edited by Annalia; 2008-10-15 at 05:05 PM.

Re: Key of Destiny
William Jackson
"Well, here we go." Said William, following Tobin. He sighs somewhat, annoyed by the way they had to take. He'd prefer a road over undergrowth, but this was the way it would have to be. Trying not to smell too much, and rather, breath through his mouth, William proceeded. He looks to find the box the plant was planted in, and then moved it to the side.
When he goes in the tunnel, he will see if there is enough visibility and space. If so, he will, like Tobin, be careful and draw his sword and shield, just in case.

Re: Key of Destiny
The loot taken from the bandit's camp happens to include both a lantern and oil, and the group is able to set off quickly. Although the passage had clearly been made by man, the stone walls were rough and unworked. This had been and was nothing more than a way for smugglers to sneak into Pashin undetected.
At the end of the corridor, perhaps 5-10 minutes of walk later, the company finds the way blocked by a stone wall. Cole stares at it blankly, visibly not understanding.

Talia
Talia rested the tip of her greatsword on the ground.
Weird. If you wanted to block off the tunnel, why not just collapse part of it? You're right, Caminus. It must be some sort of special door.
She steps forward to assist Caminus, scratching and prodding at the wall.

Re: Key of Destiny
William Jackson
William was quick to aid the others in their search. It sounded like a smart idea to look for something, though he wondered if he would be able to spot it.. Still, as he looked, he spoke up a bit. "Perhaps.. perhaps this passage was discovered and, well, the guards may not have wanted to see it in use by others so they sealed it up like this."

Re: Key of Destiny
The walls indeed looked different, although it was nowhere close to new. It was old and musty and had probably been there for a while. "The others never talked of a tunnel. We never come through here unless we have lots of loot to bring to town, though."

Ivistka One-Named, Kagonesti Barbarian
"You have done well, Cole. Do not worry. See, you are braver than you thought, eh?" Iv gives Cole a friendly slap on the back which threatens to stagger the boy, and then looks around.
"Secret doors are tricksy things to find. Dwarfs know many of the hidden ways of stone, but even a human's eyes and hands might find the clue. Look over the wall, and forget not the side passages. Seek the means to awaken the door disguised within the stones. Look for a lock, either symbolic or true. Recall the keys we brought from Pashin," Iv suggested. She dug into her pack for the ring of keys.

Re: Key of Destiny
By taking her time, Ivestka is easily able to find a stone that didn't quite fit the others. When pressed, it set the entire wall in motion, which slid sideways and into the rock. For a smuggler's passage, it was a good enough craft.
Behind were the sewers proper. Made up of large tunnel with five-foot-large walkways on each side, and a five feet gully in the center, they were much like your typical sewer. The ceiling arched above the gully gracefully, and the whole construction looked somewhat old, although bits had been repaired.
Knowing they were in the southwestern-most part of the sewers, the group now had two choices. They'd arrived at a passage's corner and could go either north or east.

Re: Key of Destiny
Once Caminus' mark was done, the group set off northward. They rounded two bends after a few hundred feet, traveling silently and focusing mostly on not choking on the sewers' awful odour.
The second bend led into another corridor, but light could be seen at the end of this one, coming down from the ceiling. Before the party could rejoice at finding the exit, however, Ivestka and Sir Vazler spotted three dark, eight-legged forms running across the ceiling and floor in their direction.
SpoilerYay, Fight Time! I need initiatives from everyone, as well as first Surprise Round Actions (meaning standard or move or partial charge) from Ivestka and Vazler. There is one spider on the ground and the walkway on which you stand is five-foot large. There is, however, a crossing bridge about 30 feet ahead. I'll have a map soon, don't worry.
Oh, and for convenience's sake, Cole is holding the lantern.Last edited by Annalia; 2008-10-26 at 11:11 AM.

Spoiler
Initiative (1d20+3)[21]
Even though it was not asked for, Caminus will most likely shoot at these things (unless they are upon him) when his turn comes. I am going to assume that they will be in melee, so Caminus will NOT want to shoot party members and will take the -4 to attack to miss them. Therefore, it will be a straight attack roll. If there is a spider by itself, Cam will shoot at it (so +4 to roll below).

Initiative - (1d20+3)[12]
I'm not sure how far away the little beasties are, nor how confined we are, so I'm not sure what Iv's actions will be
Basically, is this a "stab them with the long spear as they approach" combat, or a "draw greatsword and hack them to pieces" combat? Or possibly a "use the short sword to avoid decapitating an ally with the backswing"?
