    Gwen will be the last to pass through the fire trap. She nervously walks through, with Rain following close behind. She waits to see what will happen with the odd door. In the meantime, she looks down the tunnel, where they haven't been yet.

    The door emits a loud creak when Alastair pushes it open. The light he shines into the space beyond revels it to be a large, irregularly shaped room. The room is, like the tunnel, rough hewn from the rock. The floor of it seems to be relatively flat, without the slope of the tunnel. Antiope shines her lantern into the room so Alastair can see farther than his torch allows.

    More importantly, it is not empty. There are several small creatures on the other side of the room, all staring at the door. They look like lizards, about 3 feet, maybe 4 feet long with their tails. Each is dull orangey brown color, and has bright black eyes that almost seem to glimmer with intelligence. Or maybe they're just hungry.

    Annika manifests offensive precognition. She enters the lizards' room (drawing her rapier as part of a move action), maneuvering through allies' squares if she has to (although she won't end in one), picks a target whose path to her isn't blocked by other people, and sets her full +3 dodge against it.

    Annika moves in as quickly as she can, moving and manifesting at the same time. Alastair takes advantage of the direct line path he has to a lizard and skewers it. He can tell his weapon is not quite as effective as he thinks it really ought to be, but it does make the lizard squeal in a sort of weird bird-like squawk. It hasn't been killed by his formidable strike, but it has been seriously hurt by it.

    Quanos moves in next, unleashes a blast of fiery doom that hits a lizard squarely, but has no apparent effect. The lizard flinches from it, but only for a second. Beleg takes a step in and launches his arrows. His first is a true shot that neatly pins the one Alastair is fighting to the ground, making it stop moving before it even has a chance to really start. As he shifts targets to another one, the doorway fouls his second shot, sending it careening into the wall. Peter dashes into the room, taking up a location in anticipation of his next spell, then Antiope steps just into the room and fires once, though her arrow flies too high to hit any lizards.

    The lizards all open their mouths wide and create a noise so incredibly disturbing that it makes ears bleed and minds unhinge. They stay right where they are, and just call out this chorus of dissonant tones.

    Antiope clenches her jaw against the pain , but seems otherwise unaffected.

    Gwen moves up and Diedre remains where she is, scanning the hallway in one direction, then the other for any additional threats. Annika's brain is unable to think past the horrible noise, but Alastair moves forward through it, hacking at one of the lizards to make the shrieking stop. His blade slices through, giving it a grievous, but not deadly, wound.

    Quanos suffers a similar fate to Annika, but Beleg is able to launch a pair of arrows. The first neatly skips off the lizard's hide, while the second looks like it actually scrapes a line down its side. As before, it seems clear that the cold effect is actually damaging the creature despite the appearance of the arrows not or barely doing so, and this lizard also slumps to the floor, unmoving.

    Peter ignores the noise completely, and makes a few commanding gestures and words. It looks like a snowball fight erupts between two of the lizards, and each seems to be hurt by some portion of the multitude of splodgy impacts. Antiope scoots forward, using the movement to best effect to place her shot, but that isn't enough to cause ti to find purchase.

    The lizards scuttle back a little bit and continue to shriek.

    If nothing is coming down the corridors yet, Diedre will move up toward the door and see if she can see also what's going on in the room. If she makes it up to the room door and sees anyone particularly affected by the shrieking, she will bring forth the staff. If there is still time in the round, she will be ready to appy a Resist (sonic) Energy spell.

    Annika shakes off the stun and refocuses her attention, setting all of her Dodge bonus against lizard #8. Ashlyn, who can be of no help, creeps into Annika's haversack to avoid taking further damage, while the halfling scoops up her rapier. Since she cannot fit an attack in as well, she uses her standard action to manifest offensive prescience.

    The shrieks of the lizards take their toll, forcing several people to just stop and cringe in pain, dropping whatever they are holding. Gwen and Diedre, finding no other apparent threat in the hallway, move into the room. Diedre is forced to enter the room by a few steps to get out of everyone else's way. Annika picks up her rapier and her eyes flash as she is covered with an ephemeral, translucent goo.

    Beleg is able to drill one arrow into a lizard, but only one. Kim is able to sink one of her own arrows in, using the swift movement of her feet to good effect, though the lizard doesn’t seem to find it especially upsetting.

    For their part, the lizards just continue to shriek.

    Everyone takes 6 points sonic damage and also needs to make a new Fort save DC 19. Success = no additional effect. Failure = stunned for 1 round.

    I should note that, as people have correctly divined, the damage is not considered continuous for spellcasting purposes, though the sound is actually continuous.

    Peter & Kim's Fort saves, Diedre's Fort save. Because of where people were positioned at the time, it wasn't possible for her to move and cast and still end up in the room.
