Re: Adventure in Eberron: Beyond the Sea
Vaasth's eyes widen and one then twitches after a short pause as he's impaled on the sharpened steel. He stiffens and staggers as the pain rushes through his body, "Hng!"
When the lightning bolt flies from the female in the distance Vaasth seems to take the full brunt of the blow and stiffens even further, eyes again wide. When the bolt finishes arching and the blade is pulled from his gut he clenches his fist and opens his mouth wide, and begins to spew ...words, "AK'VAKTH M'KUU T'YOKV V'O V'OCK, mother V'OCK'R!!" He cringes and grabs some of the severely burned skin on his upper-arm and peels it off, revealing somewhat crispy, glistening red flesh. Needless to say, he doesn't look happy.Last edited by Krimm_Blackleaf; 2008-06-28 at 11:21 PM.

Re: Adventure in Eberron: Beyond the Sea
SpoilerActually, looking at the map I can see a line of effect that hits 3 splicers and does not threaten QB - Splicer 2 Bottom Right to Splicer 4 Top Right hits Splicers 1,2 and 4, as per DMG page 175.
Alternately, Splicer 2 Bottom Left to Splicer 3 Top Right will catch 1, 2 and 3, but not QB.
I'm going with Irmaet electrocuting 1, 2 and 4 in retaliation.
Splicer 1 - (12d6)[46]
Splicer 2 - (12d6)[44]
Splicer 4 - (12d6)[50]
Irmaet is on 11hp.
Irmaet the Black
Irmaet cringes, as he is struck by lightning blast, feeling his flesh burn with electricity.
"That... shall be your last mistake." he coughs, sending his charged electrical arc through three of the splicers, rather than just two.
"I don't think I could take another one of those blasts..."Last edited by pingcode20; 2008-06-29 at 04:07 AM.

Re: Adventure in Eberron: Beyond the Sea
((Being the target of a damaging spell sets off Hector's Contingency, trying to force a Baleful Transposition with one of the slicers (say, #3) to avoid it (DC 18 will save).))
Hector
Assuming his Transposition works:
Eldritch words roll off Hector's tongue and summons into being a hulking, multi-limbed, balloon-like Purple Slaad between George and Quentin. The creature of Limbo swells up even further and emits a scream, releasing a concentrated blast of pure sound into their enemies.
If the Transposition does not:
Hector will cast a Dimensional Jumper (swift action) and teleport 20ft so that he is hiding behind Quentin before bringing out his Slaad.
SpoilerCasting Summon Monster V as a standard action (Thank you, Rapid Summoning).
The Slaad will use his Sonic Shout. The 30ft cone should hit slicers 1, 2, and 3 (again, only if the Baleful Transposition thing works, if not only Slicer 1 and 2 are hit), and with a little luck, send at least one of them flying off the edge and into the water.
Slicer1: (2d12)[3][11](14)
Slicer2: (2d12)[5][10](15)
Slicer3: (2d12)[6][6](12)

Where will you be summoning the Slaad?
Irmaet can only catches the two foes nearest to him in his electrical arc, as well as the trepanning victim in the back. There is a sizzling, and then a huge arc of lightning appears between the hammer-wielder and the warforged. The oversized warior smells like burning flesh, and can barely stand. The warforged is slightly less bad off, but it visibly burned, arcs of lightning still crackling along its plating. The woman manages to dodge the arc, but a bolt of lightning splits off from it and grounds itself through her.
As Hector is struck, a contingent spell woven about him triggers, and he reaches out through the Astral towards the shifter. However, the shifter resists the spell with a fierce howl, shattering the contingency.

Sorry! My subscription e-mail didn't work. I'll have to double-check on that! Also, a question about Vampiric Touch and George. I can have Kyrek cast a touch spell and have George make the touch attack. Would George can the hp, or would Kyrek?
Kyrek is stunned by the attack. He casts Bull's Strength on George, and directs George to attack S1.

George's first swing goes wild, but he follows it up with a solid backhand that breaks the bloated warrior's nose, driving it back into his brain. The hulk crumples over, his nostrils and eyes leaking blood.

Re: Adventure in Eberron: Beyond the Sea
The aberrant human-shaped creature known as Vaasth drops little bits of his own burnt flesh to the ground and he suddenly seems far more grim... He looks up, clenching his teeth and arches his back with arms out like claws and with a sudden sound of teeth being pulled and knuckles being cracked, Vaasth is sheathed in a suit of bony armor that covers every inch of his body.
He bellows an unnatural noise, unlike any he's made without his armor and suddenly a mass of thin, whip-like tentacles shoots from his back and stops with another bony-sounding crack.
He leaps over the corpse and shoves past the ugly purple beast, running down the path at the woman that recently shocked him, roaring in his aberrant language.

QB:
QB dives forward and left, rolling through the impossibly narrow gap between Hector's summoned Slaad and the rapier-armed Shifter, and springing up on the far side, spinning on the balls of his feet to sweep his axes toward the creature's center of mass in a wide horizontal arc. "You're cold meat, beastling," he snarls, before skittering backwards away from any return strike and pelting across the bridge behind Vaasth.

Re: Adventure in Eberron: Beyond the Sea
As Vaasth nears on the woman in his aberrant guise, Quentin rakes out at the bestial swordsman with his axes. The first blow is parried by the shifter's rapier, but the second slips in, matting the shifter's fur with blood. However, as he does, the shifter reaches out for him with a claw covered in fire, making a burning riposte. The shifter's hand lands firmly on him, burning a handprint onto his skin, while the fire already set on him by the shifter's previous attack only exacerbates the wound. (14 damage).
The shifter howls ferociously in pain, and turns it attentions to the slaad beside it. It flourishes its blade, and lashes out in a sort of brutal pirouette, slipping his blade beneath the monstrously obese flesh of the Purple Slaad. The blade slashes through muscle, crippling the slaad (9 damage, 2 Strength damage). The shifter then leaps away, tumbling away from the Slaad and up towards Quentin.
Meanwhile, the woman trepanist stares down Vaasth. Suddenly, her eyes gleam silver, and Vaasth feels an invisible force sweeping down on him, buckling his legs. Despite his resistance, he still topples to the ground. Then, adding insult to injury, she snaps her fingers, sending a ray of electricity howling towards Vaasth. The downed daelkyrspawn, however, has had more than enough, and quickly rolls to dodge the lightning.

Re: Adventure in Eberron: Beyond the Sea
SpoilerWrack vs Splicer 4.
Fortitude DC 23 or become Helpless and Blind for 14 rounds, and suffer a -2 on all checks for 3d10 minutes afterwards.
Irmaet the Black
"This has gone on long enough!" shouts Irmaet. It was rarely wise to anger a specialist in life force manipulation, even one as generally positive as Irmaet. He wasn't particularly nice when riled up, though. That was asking a bit much.
The wizard begins tracing the diagram of a terrible (but not too terrible, that would be uncivilised.) magic, points of light starting to appear on the woman's skin.
"Electrical shocks? Pah, you're in for more than that."
Blood fills her silvered eyes, and her skin begins to peel away from the points, revealing the raw skin below. Pain wracks ever fibre of her being, while the spell does its work.
It wasn't actually a whole lot worse than getting electrocuted, but, of course, this was decidedly non-lethal (and lasted considerably more than a split second until unconsciousness). It was frowned upon by the blackened book, but so long as it was self defence (getting hit by a magic thunderbolt qualified, for the most part), it was considered a cut above outright murder in retaliation.
While Irmaet was otherwise preoccupied incapacitating the belligerent magician, Mr Bones takes a step to the northeast and waves his poleaxe threateningly at the warforged, sending the all-too-clear message that it might be in its best interests to stay put, or he would have to hit him again.
Having visited wizardly vengeance on the splicer, Irmaet takes the moment to move behind Kyrek and George, displacing himself two spaces to the right with his own two feet.
SpoilerIrmaet casts Wrack on Splicer 4, then moves right two spaces.
Mr Bones moves 1 space up and 1 space left (as either a move or a 5' step, doesn't matter here), then readies an action to hit the warforged with his poleaxe if he does anything but sit still.
Incidentally, if it tries to move next round, Mr Bones gets an Attack of Opportunity in addition to his readied attack, since it can't make a 5' step in water.

SpoilerOh, that's handy. That means the splicer isn't a threat any more.
Irmaet the Black
Irmaet paused for a second, then turned to the audience. "Hold on a moment, that isn't how it happened at all!"
He produces a small remote control from within his robes and rewinds Mr Bones, who then proceeds to the spot to the left of the top-left of the Slaad, and swings his heavy poleaxe at the shifter, the weapon landing with a loud crash.

Re: Adventure in Eberron: Beyond the Sea
One of the walls in the chamber - if one were to number going counterclockwise, it would be the fourth - seems to momentarily sag and crumble under its own weight, but then it goes back to normal. Odd. You all notice you can't exactly remember what Mr. Bones did (not even Mr. Bones), but given the clang you heard, so much like a halberd being rebuffed by chainmail, and the fact that Mr. Bones is staring confusedly at his weapon, you all suppose that he swung at the Shifter and missed. Also, from the fact that the female is screaming in agony, lying on the ground panting helplessly in an epiletic burst of pain, you intuit that Irmaet has worked some piece of dark and quasi-forbidden necromancy on her.
Meanwhile, the waterlogged warforged swims for the side of the pier. Despite his adamantine-laden bulk, he makes an adequate showing of the doggy paddle, sloshing his way towards the side. The water around him is noticeably clouded with the blood leaking from him.

Re: Adventure in Eberron: Beyond the Sea
SpoilerPreemptive action! Woo!
Vaasth looms over the helpless female ...thing, no one can see the gears moving in his head through that bony armor as he pauses for the shortest of moments. He holds out his right arm, to which his tentacle is attached firmly to. The tentacles on his back all swing forward with the sound of whipping air and stiffen, and begins latching onto the body of the helpless woman. His tentacle-whip isn't close behind.
He tries his best to wrap each one around her and he begins to slowly crush her in places that are merely painful, not lethal. A guttural and almost inaudible growl comes from Vaasth's mouth. "Maybe we can knock this one out and get some handy information out of her."

Hm. It seems the tentacled man has an internal armor as well. I may have to talk to him about that. The party includes a necromancer, a wizard versed in the forbidden knowledge of the Far Plane, and apparently a warrior powered by it as well...oh, and a Warden of the Gatekeepers.

Re: Adventure in Eberron: Beyond the Sea
The shifter dances around the obese slaad's onslaught, its deft footwork keeping it a step ahead of the outsider. The slaad bellows in frustration, while its summoner transforms into a hideous, tentacle-laden creature not entirely dissimilar from Vaasth's current appearance. The warforged looks up to see the shapeshifted Hector peering over the pier, and quietly groans to itself.
Meanwhile, Vaasth's tentacles are all over the defenseless young splicer, wrapping around her and squeezing around her slender frame, penetrating every gap in her defenses. The girl is able to choke out an anguished cry before one of Vaasth's tentacles slides into her mouth, cutting off her airflow and knocking her out.
Quentin breaks into a whirl of blades, axes circling and circling in a widening gyre, but only the first strike hits the shifter, cutting him against his jaw. The rest are parried as the rough shifter slouches away from the scout's axes, dodging them or knocking them aside.
As the scout lashes out, the flames still clinging to him scald his flesh, burning skin and heating up armor to unbearable temperatures. (7 damage)
The shifter, not wanting to be caught between a slaad and a hard place, puts its palms together and closes its eyes, focusing intently. Shadowy darkness seeps out from its clasped palms, enfolding the shifter. When the darkness fades, the shifter is gone, and at the same time, an envelope of shadows forms back across the bridge, and the shifter appears in its midst.

OOC for Kyrek
Spoiler
The splicer teleported out by using a maneuver, which doesn't provoke.
Also, Splicer 4 is currently unconscious.Last edited by The Demented One; 2008-07-02 at 11:14 PM.

OOC:
Spoiler
Okay, the burning thing is officially annoying now. Since S3 disengaged, QB will use the breather to try to put out the flames. What do I need to do here, spend a round on the effort and attempt a Reflex save?

Re: Adventure in Eberron: Beyond the Sea
Irmaet the Black
Irmaet walks forwards out the door, and watches the teleporting shifter carefully, then shakes his head and raises a finger at the shifter.
"Mr Bones? Please help the nice shifter before he hurts himself with those things?" he sighs, as the shifter's burning armament begins to coat itself in oil.
Mr Bones' clicks and clacks weren't far behind, Irmaet's mute bodyguard bounding up to QB, the poleaxe bouncing off his shoulder as he enthusiastically went after the shifter
SpoilerMr Bones moves to behind QB, Irmaet casts Grease on the shifter's flaming weapon - DC 18 reflex to negate.Last edited by pingcode20; 2008-07-03 at 05:41 AM.

Re: Adventure in Eberron: Beyond the Sea
Kyrek
SpoilerPrior posts deleted for being inaccurate, and messy besides.
Kyrek uses Grease on Splicer #3. Ref DC 17 vs fall.
George sees he can-not cross the plank, nor can he jump the distance. He can however, climb down a bit, climb around on the plank, and climb to the other side.
Spoiler
DC to long-jump 15 feet at a standstill is 30. He has +8 to Jump which would still require a result of 22 on a d20.
He does however, have a Climb Speed of 15, and a Climb check of 26 for the time being. So he can cross the chasm by climbing to the other end.Last edited by Karaswanton; 2008-07-03 at 04:18 PM. Reason: Climb check.

Retcons Ahoy
Hoo boy.
OOC for Irmaet
Spoiler
The shifter's weapon isn't flaming, he just used some maneuvers to deal fire damage with it. So casting grease on it would not result in a boom.
OOC for Quentin
Spoiler
The fire is a supernatural effect, so you can't put it out. It's not got many rounds of duration left, though.
OOC for Kyrek
Spoiler
The bridge is too narrow for George to walk across, but he could jump it.I no longer actively read the forums, and probably won't respond to any PMs. I'm fine with people using my homebrew in anything, including fan-compilations and wikis, as long as you credit me.

Hector-Chuul n' Pals
Hector's summoned slaad stares at the fleeing Splicer. It is.. annoyed.
It gathers its balloon-like mass and performs a prodigious leap without so much as a running start, attempting to clear the gap.
SpoilerJump: (1d20+15)[4](19)
Space rushes in to fill the void Hector leaves behind as he teleports his large frame once more, coming within range of the bloody warforged. Its claws close down on the paddling warforged like a terrible vise.

Improved Grab, if the attack hits: (1d20+17)[3](20)
By the by, a Chuul is Large sized, so I think it takes up more than one square? Not that it really matters when Hector teleports his way around, but hey. Thank god you warned me against making the Huge dragon turtle character Demented, I don't think I realized just how big 'Huge' really was.People seemed to like this better, but only marginally so - the way one might prefer to be stabbed than shot. Optimally, one isn't stabbed or shot. Optimally, one eats some cake! But there are times when cake is not available, and instead we are destroyed.
