The Dragonshields evidently did not fall for Alejandro's ruse. Aelyn uses a horrible curse on the Skirmisher, and Emra takes a moment to refocus.

The Skirmisher, covered in flames, decides to go after the dreaded "archwizard" Alejandro. He runs to him (Emra gets an Opportunity Attack) and misses him horribly. After that, he backs off from the fearsome wizard just a little bit.

Rexacor's Turn!

Rexacor kneels down at Resh's side. "Wake up, Resh. Your time has not yet come."

The warlord then stands up, and says loudly, "Stand fast! These kobolds shall not lay us low!" With those words, Rexacor slashes into the dragonshield in front of him.

Resh can use a healing surge now, gaining him an extra 2 hp. Don't forget that any healing received when dying resets your HP to 0.

Rexacor uses Bastion of Defence against Dragonshield 2. He rolls [19] for attack, and [14] for damage. If he hits, everyone except Tarin (he's too far away) gets a +1 to all defences until the end of the encounter. Whether or not he hits, everyone (again, except for Tarin) gets 8 temporary hit points.

Alejandro smiles. His plan seems to have worked. His father would have been proud. He feels the urge to wipe these vile creatures from the face of the earth, but death might be to good for them. They need to pay, big, for what they did.

"Feel my wrath!"

Standard action: Alejandro casts Scorching Burst (level 1 at will). Targeted at Q25, making the only one inside the range D3. Attack: Intelligence vs. Reflex. Area: burst 1 within 10. Hit: 1d6+ intelligence modifier fire.

Burning flames errupt from the ground a few meters next to the kobold. The flames are dark and searing hot.

"Guys, we should keep one alive, we might be able to interrogate him! If they don't want to speak, we will make them speak!"

His own words frighten him, moments after he had spoken them. What is happening to him? The heat of battle does strange things to you, that is one of the things his father used to say, it can turn a paladin into a blackguard and a witch into a saint. Be prepared by son, not to lose yourself in the heat of battle and turn into the evil you fight, because there may not be a way back.

Anywho, the healing surge was from Rex's Inspiring Words. Resh then uses a standard action to stand, a minor action to Channel Divine Strength, and another minor action to use his Dragon Breath. He gets a +1 to attack because he is bloodied due to his Dragonborn Fury.

It was long ago, years ago, when old Pedro took his son, young Alejandro, out for a walk to tell him about life. Although it had been many years ago and Alejandro hadn't been paying attention because he had found some interesting new toys, he vaguely remembered some of the words his father had said that day.

The father and his son decided to sit down and watch the clouds while sitting in the grass. With a soft voice Pedro started to talk: "You know, Alejandro, many years ago, when I still was a servant of the Shining One, I travelled a lot with some friends. We fought against injustice and protected the innocent against the wicked. Those were the good old days. One day however everything went wrong, we were ambushed by ogres and one of my friends, Burt, died. I could not save him."

Young Alejandro had been watching ants walk between the grass while his father spoke, but now he looked at his fathers face. Pedro looked sad and cried. "What is it, father?"

"Burt's death was a tragedy, it really destroyed me. Although Burt had been a good friend to all of us, the others didn't fully understand why I took his death the hardest. They thought I blamed me for his death. For so many years I have kept it a secret of what really happened the night before..."

"You see these ants my son?"

Pedro pointed at the ants walking by.

"They are hard workers and when they fight they fight with everything they got to protect their land and family. They are the most loyal creatures I know, yet even amongst them are some that in the heat of battle turn against their own kind. They forget what they were fighting for and the horrors of battle taint them, turning them insane. This is what happened to our halfing friend Burt."

Alejandro looked at his father. It seemed as if he wasn't talking to Alejandro anymore, but more to himself.

The night before the ambush he came to me while everybody else already slept. You could see the madness in his eyes. I still dream sometimes about those eyes. He told me about his plan to kill everybody next evening and take their money. He asked me if I wanted to join him. I was shocked of course. There had been some tentions in the group lately and I was actually thinking of leaving at that point as I didn't agree with Eodrick's leadership and I told Burt that he could do whatever he wanted as I would leave tomorrow. I was tired and didn't really care anymore..... Of course that morning the ogres ambushed and I never left and never told the other party members about Burt's treachery and mine.... I blamed myself for forgetting my duty and for doing something as dishonest as agreeing to leave my friends to be slaughtered.

Pedro stopped talking and Alejandro felt uneasy. His father was an honorable man and if even he had once made a fall what kind of world was this?

Luckily Pelor forgave me, but I never forgave myself. Yet, Pelor could not stop the party from falling apart soon after.

I just thought it would be funny to flesh out Pedro's history a bit more. I do not think Alejandro remembers anything of this.

As his eyes catch those of the skirmisher, the kobold's mind is suddenly painfully assaulted.

Okay, repost.

Guess we're using Karas's roll of 6 damage for the opportunity attack, then. That works. Wonder why my rolls didn't work, though...

Also, since the opportunity attack is in this case an immediate interrupt instead of an immediate reaction, Emra's attack occurs BEFORE D3's attack on Alejandro - thus whether he has a -2 or not doesn't matter, his attack misses because it never occurs, as he dies from her attack. Thus, Hoplite, add 5 hit points back to your character.

Emra guts the kobold when he turns away from her to attack the wizard. When she sees Aelyn slay the skirmisher, she turns to engage once again the dragonshield now beind held by Resh. As she does so, she spots Tarin fending off the kobold just feet away, and calls out encouragement to the elf, changing her course of action to pursue the dragonshield attacking him instead. "Hold fast, Tarin! I will come to your aid."
