First of all, I'd recommend you get a few games under your belt before starting your own. It will give you a good sense for how a game plays out, and what is and is not balanced. And even then you might want to co-narrate one before running one by yourself, just to see what running one is like. Of course, if you think you're ready, you can give it a try.

As for the mason twist idea, it's an interesting one and could work. The one thing that comes to mind, is how many mini-groups are there? I would say 2 at the most. 3 groups would require nine masons, and that's far too many for your average sized game. Yes, they're split up at the beginning, but how long will it take for them to find each other? I'm reminded of the Girl Genius themed game that had two masonic groups that found each other pretty quickly. Given their size, and a few other factors, the Villagers locked in a win on Night 2 I believe. I would recommend either 2 groups of 3, or 3 groups of 2. Six masons is your usual size on average.

Now, another question is how powerful to make their ability? I'm unsure whether or not having their respective abilities be scry and bane would be unbalanced or not. I think it might be. You have a seer/baner who has triple the chance to find the other (always a powerful combo), takes two/three kills to get rid of for good, and has other people to discuss things with.

Now, as you probably were thinking already, a different power (one less powerful) might be best for this kind of setup. But yeah, I'd like to see this concept field tested.

Yeah, but you'll notice that they can't bane the whole seer group or the whole baner group. And as each one dies, the cooldown goes up, so they're in many ways more vulnerable than the usual seer/baner combo.

This is replacing my claim for TV Tropes WW. Haruki-kun kinda stole my thunder with his Memesville game. I thought I'd try as simpler WW game before I use the complex ideas I had. I don't have a proposed date in mind. Probably starting during my winter holiday.

My story is that the spy's disguise device went haywire as he prepared to infiltrate. Everyone was disguised like others, including some unfortunate civilians.

Look at the schedule & pick a date, my friend.

@Everyone: If you choose a DATE you get dibs on that date.
If you choose a MONTH I basically just keep track of the fact that you MAY want to start a game sometime around then, but if someone else chooses the last DATE available, it's theirs.

    Yeah, I saw that.
But to be perfectly honest, with the amount of time that I spend editing that table, answering PM's, solving scheduling conflicts & scouring this thread to keep everyone happy (all while working 100+ hour weeks at work & trying to play my games) when a game simply pops up that has never once even been mentioned.... I just ignore it.

It must be said that Catfight was announced in this thread, and I did speak to Zar Peter, where we agreed there would be little problem with both games starting in the same week, what with Convoy, Titans and a few other games roling towards a close right now.

It's only a small game and already has the 30 players it requires, so I hope there is no harm done. I agreed to conarrate on pretty short notice, and I thought it best to announce it in this thread as a courtesy to all.

    @ Reinholdt and PhantomFox:

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not planning on starting the game anytime soon-I'm planning on waiting until the games I'm in right now are over at the very least-but it's good to know how this would play out. To clarify, each subgroup decides, as a whole, where to put their one action. Each member scries as something like 'mason-bane' or 'mason-scry'. And several of the bad guys I have in mind (at least two as of now) scry as villagers anyways, making it that much harder to form a network. After looking over the suggestions, one thing I was thinking of (to solve part of the scry problem) Is to have two of the three people in each group scry as villagers, but only to the good guys. This would make it harder to form a cohesive network, allow another mason group, and still let the bad guys find a large group of masons. comments and suggestions are more than welcome.

Just as the Three Post Rule is usually enforced by ourselves rather than getting Mods involved, so too should rules that we've created for ourselves be so enforced. Please politely direct anyone starting a game out of turn to this thread.

In that vein, I wonder if it would be helpful to do a little self policing and when new game threads start up that aren't on the schedule someone could politely post in the recruitment thread to redirect the game starter here. You know, just to nudge people into trying to stick to the schedule. Just a thought.
And I agree with Zeb on the point that perhaps a note should be made on starting any new game. However the fact that new threads can't be made in this forum right now hinders people from reading it/knowing about it.

Perhaps, as we are all shareholders in this, we can let those who do want to make a game know about the schedule and how to get on it, just like we nudge those who break the three post rule. With everyone's help, we can ensure a crazy start of games at the same time doesn't happen again.

A note on posting Recruitment/Game Threads:
Once you've created your game, scheduled a start date, and you're ready to go, you'll have to post the threads in SMBG and get them moved to the Structured Games sub-forum. New threads cannot, at this time, be created.
To get them moved there, either PM Alarra or myself (or simply post here, which is the preferred method so that I can update the schedule properly) and it should be moved fairly quickly.
This was implemented at the sub-forum's creation to ensure that the games placed there actually belonged there. Conversations are supposedly in progress as to whether or not this extra step is needed anymore, but for the time being that's the way it is.

    [center]--Recruitment and Game Schedules--
Note that the date listed is for the Game Thread to go up,
    not the recruitment thread.
    Begin recruitment at your leisure.
The thing about it... is that everyone else schedules their game and waits for their turn.
We agreed upon the schedule as a group.
We agreed to enforce it as a group.
It takes a lot of work on my end to keep this organized.

If you guys want me to stop doing so, I gladly will.

I don't mean to sound petty here, but my time is extremely limited. I'm stretched very thin at times. Most times, actually. That's why I choose to ignore games that creep in unnoticed, unannounced & unscheduled.

I throght here would probably be the best place to post this, although if people think its a better idea, ill get a thread.

Basically, after yesterdays amazingly good fun 5 games of werewolf over msn, Ive decided that with enough interesst, id like to make it a weekly thing.

    My proposole is as follows:

Once i week, however many people who wish to turn up, all boot up msn, or at least be on it at 7-9 greenwich mean time.
During this time, i will run between one several werewolf games depending on how many people turn up (of course, only one at a time. Im not that awesome). During these games which roles are and arent there will change but all will be taken from what i deem to be the base roles (masons, villagers, wolves, seers, baners) in games under 15 people strong. Over 15 people more roles may turn up (devil, beast, day baner, etc.)
Judging from last night, these games seem to last between 45min -about and hour, so we should get through a couple in the 2 hours slot.

Anyhow, thats the basic summary (I hope it made sense), anyone interessted?
    Thank Saturn for this avatar!

They used to do that all the time.
They called it "The Ad Hoc MSN WW Game"

That would sound awesome, except… well, I'm not on then.

When you do it - post on Friendly Banter "Ad hoc WW game on MSN now"
and on your first post give a couple of MSN addresses of people that are currently playing in case someone wants to join.

At most I'd recommend around 12 players, but 5-9 seems to be the "sweet" spot for the player size.

It does get hard to keep track of votes, on the other side it is a insanely fun and intense time.

For those of us tracking Monster Mash in the SMBG forum, the game ends with a decisive Vampire Win!

The original Alpha Vampire - St. Nil and his first recruit Deathslayer7 survived until the very end, losing only Zar Peter but recruiting Malmagor Andrigal for the win.
