With another hiccup he shakes his head, "All my plans usually go to **** but I will admit I have certain gra*hic*sp of combat tactics. I run around, shoot people, and make their day as bad as *hic* mine. There. Tactics." He looked to Gamaliel and gave a half-hearted wave, forcing his hiccups on him for a few moments.

Quinn

Well, I've always thought of myself as being more a follower than a leader type...
She trails off as Gamaliel enters, giving him a wave in greeting.

Inwardly pleased that attention is being paid to him, Bierce gives a low, theatrical bow and moves to take a seat. "I fear I've come into the discussion halfway through. What have I missed?"

Kita

Kita pipes up. "Oh, we're working on figuring out who's going to be the group leader. Since you don't seem to be able to be on time, at all, I don't think we're going to want to rely on you though."

[Bandededed]

Ryu watches Gamaliel enter, and smiles as he is forced to hiccup for a moment. After Kita finishes speaking, Ryu adds: "Well, unless you want to be the leader, it appears that it's going to be me. No one else seems to want to," He turns to the rest. "If no one objects, I guess I'll do it. What could possibly go wrong?"

[Hairb]

"*Hic*... I say...*Hic* What manner of curious sorcery am I... *Hic* ...under? I feel rather queer." Bierce slumped into his chair, trying to get the measure of each of the candidates.

Quinn

Quinn starts to nod in agreement of Ryu being leader...then he finishes his sentence.

And she buries her face in her hands, groaning.
"He said it...crappit I can't believe he said it..."

"A lot of things" Sade snaps after Ryu finishes his sentence.

The sorceror stared for a minute, then put his right palm over his face By the Lady... why don't you just run into a Power's realm and start proclaimin' the virtures of bein' an Athar while you're at it?

Kita

Kita stares at Ryu for a moment, before turning back to the man. "Sir, requesting an item of permanent silence to be attached to Ryu."

Administrator Kelly frowns and shoots Kita a look, but the woman with him gives Ryu a smirk and says, "The changeling is a jokester, too, I see..."

Administrator Kelly straightens and clears his throat. "Now that the squad leader has been elected, the next order of business is your first mission together. For some of you bashers, this might be your first mission with us. This woman," he motions to the woman standing next to him, "is our client and your charge. You are to escort her to the Beastlands, protect her while there, then ensure her safe return."

The woman steps forward and says, "I'm Jeena Ealy. Perhaps one of you cutters has heard of me, perhaps not. I'm doing research on the Beastlands for my next book, and I need a few tough bashers to accompany me. I used to do all my research myself, but, as you can see, age is starting to get the better of me..." she indicates the small streaks of gray in her hair, "and I find I cannot fight like I used to."

[Gorgondantess]

Sade sighs when he hears of the job- he made it clear at his previous station he wouldn't do this kind of thing. "Well, this should be easy, if boring. Where in the Beastlands are you headed, and do you have any portals in mind?"

Quinn

Quinn gives the lady a broad smile. "It's a pleasure to help, Miss Ealy. We'll keep you well-protected."

[Hairb]

"The Beastlands! For many long years I have waited to see them. And for such a noble cause!"

[Mantid]

Valéry

Valéry stand and stares at Jeena for a while. Finally he nods and bows. "By my blood, you will return safely," he promises. "When do we leave?"

The man with hints of fey heritage nods as he redirects his bouts of the hiccups to Ryu, "Let us be off then. I can only imagine the wonders we are to behold in your service."

Eve

Eve smiles at their new employer, placing her hands together in front of her and bowing slightly. She hums a low song that both Kita and Ryu recognize as a tune sung at the beginning of a journey, finishing with a high note and tilted head that's easy to recognize as a question even by those not familiar with her song.

Quinn

Quinn smiles as she listens to Eve's humming, finding it quite pleasing to the ear, and leans over to whisper to the tiny sprite. You can understand her, right? You've got to teach me how to. It's so beautiful.

Kita

Kita smiles at Quinn. "How is you singing voice then?"

Quinn

The brown-haired girl blushes just a little. Well, I wouldn't say I'm all that great really, it's not like I cause small animals to flee in panic or anything like that, but...

[Lochar]

Kita

"That's the first step though. Eve's language is based purely on singing and sound. You have to have very good pitch and rhythm or else you're going to probably embarrass yourself and others. Not that it isn't funny the first time you try to say hello, and instead ask them if they're interesting in a bed tussle."

Caine

Caine listens to Eve's song carefully, and also to the conversation between Kita and Quinn. Heh.. that's not half as bad as the time I saw some clueless trying to speak to a celestial... Dunno what he was trying to ask, but he ended up saying something about the celestial's mother being a fiendish prostitute. After that it was all pretty much white fire and ash.

"Yes, that would be slightly bad."

Kita then turns to look at Jeena, flying closer towards her. "We're a fairly open bunch, so sorry about turning the briefing into a common area, but when you like to leave?"

Quinn

Caine's story gets another giggle out of the young telepath, who nods in agreement with Kita, an unspoken agreement to talk more later in her eyes as she then turns and smiles at their employer.
Yeah, sorry about that, but, um, I'm ready to go whenever y'all are.

Administrator Kelly seems just about to interrupt the conversation when Kita's question about their mission causes Jeena to speak up. She laughs, then responds, "Reminds me of a couple of times I ran into the language barrier headfirst... But that's not a story for now." Her countenance becomes serious as she says, "To answer your question, the portal I plan to use is in the Hive Ward, in Allesha's Pantry, a soup-kitchen for the less-fortunate residents of the Hive; I know, not the place we really want to go, but it's the only portal which leads anywhere withing a hundred miles of where I do want to go. I'll provide the key; it's a rare herb called aum which only grows on one Prime world."

[Hairb]

"How curious. However did you manage to find such a specific key? I'm sure there is a good story behind it. How soon will we be needing to depart? Would you begrudge us a short while to prepare?"

[The Bushranger]

Quinn frowns a little at hearing where they have to go to find the portal, then nods in agreement with Bierce's questions.

[Bandededed]

After hearing Bierce's questions, Ryu kicked himself mentally. He was team leader now - he should have thought of that.

He does think to expand on the question, though, and asks, "On that note, how long will it take everyone to be ready? I understand that some of us live outside the compound, and I have no idea what all we need to collect or what you, my lady Jeena," looks at her with a smile, "Need to retrieve from your own humble abode,"

He pauses for a moment, then looks to his squad mates and adds, "And I would like to know what all of you consider your strengths and weaknesses. I don't want to send the wrong man/women/pixie/etc. in for someone else's job,"

"I have no need of haste, so prepare as much as you see fit," Jeena replies. "We will likely be gone a full month; the creatures I seek are far from the portal I plan to use, which is unfortunately the closest portal I know of to my intended destination." Her lips curl up in a small smile as she continues, "The tale of how I came upon the herbs is a short one, however. That Prime world is among the tamer ones, especially in the region I went to to gather the herbs, though recently it seems some would-be dictator has decided to claim what's 'rightfully his,' and another ruler seems to have taken exception to that. My trip to the portal was much more eventful, as I had to traverse the Slags to find it. I very nearly had a run-in with Kadyx."

Gamaliel
"If time is no object, I will head down to the Civic Festhall and see if I can find anyone who has traversed the Beastlands before. I'll check the Sensoria into the bargain. Short of heading to the Gate Towns, I think it's the best source of information at our disposal. Maybe you could come with me", he said to Eve. "They'll love you down at the Festhall. There's some terribly clever linguist fellow visiting at the moment, he'd just die to speak with you, I'm sure."

Turning to Ryu, he says, "Oh Captain, I'm but a mere swordsman, a traveller, a would-be diarist. Light on my feet, and fair to middling with a blade, but a tourist, when all is said and done." Leaping from his seat onto the table, and making a low, theatrical bow, he quipped, "My modesty has been remarked upon."
