Re: The Vega South Campaign
SpoilerSiernan is hypnotized by the fould creatures babbling, forcing her to stand to just stand there stunned.
Aetheas' attack misses, but he still holds his spell.
Attacking the Allip is going to be difficult without magic of some form. Might I recomend someone shaking Siernan out of her hypnotism? It counts as a standard action to aid another.

Re: The Vega South Campaign
[Aetheas]
"No more... I can't help any more--that last charge was the last I had." After such a vigorous battle, the healer would not let his ally just lie there with a complete lack of sanity. He would stay by the Barbarian's side, tending to any wounds, and go through the various rituals of bringing back a being back from a lost state due to such means.
"It's only temporary, but that's all we need to get out of here. When we're in a safe place I'll make sure he gets the proper treatment."
SpoilerProposal!
Instead of giving out experience as per battles, just have us all level up as the story demands? That way no one will be left behind and you don't need to keep track of what we killed, or anything of the sort.
Going with the 2nd level stats here...
Heal: (1d20+11)[14]
If not, deduct 4 points from the total.
8 hours of long-term care, for a total of 2 points restored at the moment.

Re: The Vega South Campaign
SpoilerEveryone on the party gains 200XP for the fight.
A day passes without interest. Thanks to Aetheas' healing abilities and several convienient fungi in the cave Venderholfen is able to make a full recovery. Siernan's study reveals the nature of the pedestal thanks in no small part to the scroll held by the skeleton.
The scroll shows an orb placed within pedestal, which is supposed to then be used to operate the heavy slab of stone that is the wall the skeleton points at. The slab is only able to go up and down.
With Venderholfen's wits returned to him, He is able to lift the stone slab at the key points, as directed by Siernan. A massive room comes into view as the dust clears.
The entrance the party opened looks down and across a vast area littered with pillars strewn about and shattered glass covering the floor. A spiral stair case leads 30 ft down to a circular room about 75 Yards in radius( 150 yds diameter). The ceiling must be atleast 60 ft up from where the party stands, as Ven's darkvision doesn't pierce far enough to see it. The columns are about 20 ft tall, for those that still stand. In the center of the room is a large basin glowing a dull red. The rest of the room is composed of a myriad of unintelligible shapes, as there is no light other than the soft glow of the basin.
There are several other exits similar to this one about the room (5 others to be exact) but rubble has blocked all but one.
The room looks somewhat like this:

Venderholfen
Still a little blurry from the day before, Venderholfen just shakes his head, and makes his way into the room. Taking one knee, he reaches down with his new spear and tries to sweep some of the glass on the floor, seeing if he can move it. After checking that, he prods at a few of the pillars, checking to see if they could hold his weight if need be.Life is a gamble, roll the dice. If your life is like cards, rig the deck.

Siernan
warlock
Siernan whistles with appreciation when she sees the large mysterious chamber."Now what have we stumbled upon here? Could this be a ritual chamber of long past?" She looks at the glass on the floor, then looks at the scroll held bythe unfortunate explorer. "Could the glass shards once have been the orb powering the door opening fixture, perhaps?" she muses aloud. She absentmindedly 'liberates' another magical torch and passes it to the barbarian peering into the darkness, before studying the glass shards, the columns, and glowing basin with a keen eye.

Re: The Vega South Campaign
SpoilerThe columns fall relatively easily. Glass seems to be on top of the columns, so one would presume the glass came from above.
There are a total of six pathways identical to the one the party just traversed, or atleast that is what symmetry would have you believe. Visual cues afirm this, but it is too dark to see for sure. 2 paths are open, one of which the party is at, the other on the far end of the room. There is an issue with light in this room, and ven is the first to notice something slithering...

Re: The Vega South Campaign
SpoilerThe glass presumably came from the ceiling. You cannot see the ceiling, but there is glass atop the columns and on the floor, so the glass would have fallen and shattered from above. Sorry about the lack of clarity on that.
The whole room radiates a faint aura of conjuration. A modertate aura of necromancy eminated from the direction something unknown is slithering (that Ven would have seen parts of).

SiernanSpoilerNo, on rereading your first post I get what you mean. I just skimmed it too quickly the first time around
warlock
"This chamber radiates conjuration magic. This place might have been used to call creatures from another world. The basin, I would guess, was the gate. But what is the significance of the glass? It requires sand and high heat, neither of which is present. And why does it appear to be raining from the ceiling?" Siernan looks up, hoping that the light from Venderholfen's magical torch will reveal the ceiling's secrets.
If Siernan cannot see the ceiling despite the magical torch:
Spoiler"Goodness, how large must this chamber be? I wonder this place was created on purpose and the ceiling made of glass? Well, this will be a good time to test something I've wanted to try. Aetheas, Venderholfen, I will go take a look. Call if you need me." Siernan pulls her torch out of her belt and holds it upright, letting the magical light guide her as she puts her foot on the wall and digs in. She tentatively lifts her other foot and steps onto the wall, and starts to walk upwards slowly and hesitantly.
SpoilerSpiderwalk up the walls, 20ft move speed
"By the way, the magical auras here reveal a source of death magic across the room. We should be wary for more of those horrid creatures."Last edited by Anna_Irving; 2008-11-25 at 06:59 PM.

Re: The Vega South Campaign
SpoilerI don't think spider climb negates the need to use a climb check, but you can atleast take 10. And it is no issue. Way to explore what the DM has yet to consider...
The ceiling stretches for atleast 100 ft up from where the party stands 30 ft up from the floor. The ceiling was domed, and composed of glass, some of which is still jutting out of the wall at odd angles. Trees have grown over the area above and around the dome, and their roots give Siernan's tired hands better holds.
As she climbs, she sees that a bridge once ran the breadth of the chamber, from the North to the South, near the top of the room, with walls low enough to look down at the floor below. The structure still holds, but it's sturdiness is questionable after all these years. The floor of the bridge is also littered with glass. Mana channels similar to the ones from the pedestal in the previous room run the length of the bridge and up it's sides. Near the middle of the bridge is an Orb lying on the floor. It looks to be about 5 inches in diameter and perfectly smooth. It radiates conjuration, stronger than the surrounding aura of conjuration, but still faint.
From the bridge high in the air, there are now two other exits, one to the North and one to the South. For reference, the entrance the party came from is to the East.

Re: The Vega South Campaign
[Aetheas]
"So, we're dealing with death and summoning?" The Healer mused for a moment, rattling the possibilities around his head for a moment. All the while he watched the curious creature known to him as Siernan climb the walls much like---a spider? Oh great, was he surrounded by them too? "Summoning of the dead--or perhaps the god of the dead?"
EDIT
"Shall I?" He motioned to the torch. So long as one was exploring and the other destroying, he might as well hold the light source to their ventures, and watch the surroundings for any change, a possible set of eyes, or a flicker of movement.Last edited by ZaneLaCoix; 2008-11-25 at 07:35 PM.

Re: The Vega South Campaign
SpoilerOh, Spider Climb is better than you think: The subject can climb and travel on vertical surfaces or even traverse ceilings as well as a spider does.No need for climb check, no need for hands. Yay for stumping the DM!
Siernan
warlock
"This ritual chamber is as large as a cathedral, and the roof is made of glass," Siernan calls down. "Tree roots are growing through the glass, so we are deep underground. There's a bridge, near 100 feet up from where you are, that's running across the room perpendicular to the way you're facing now. It's old and crumbly and I don't know if I can walk across it, which is unfortunate, because the orb in the poor fellow's scroll is on the middle of it. It's also summon magic. There are two exits from the bridge from that I can see."
Siernan hums to herself as she studies the configuration of the ceiling and the bridge. "I do have a grappling hook and 50 feet of rope. I suppose I can try to climb down from the middle of the ceiling. Do either of you have more rope, or know how to tie knots very well?"
Seeing Aetheas motion towards Venderholfen's torch, she calls out to him, "Do you want me to get you your own torch?" There's plenty more in the prior room."
SpoilerDonno how far away the bridge is from the ceiling. Siernan will attempt to hook the grappling hook to a study-looking tree root and climb down the knotted rope to retrieve the orb from the bridge in the sky. She has no Use Rope skill though, so she'll let someone else knot the rope if they offer.Last edited by Anna_Irving; 2008-11-25 at 08:07 PM.
