The Endymion [IC]

The shuttle ride was uncomfortable, but uneventful. You watched the earth fall away beneath you as you rose, breaking free of the atmosphere roughly fifteen minutes later. The Endymion itself could be seen through the front window long before you reached it. The sheer size of it was unbelievable. At over a mile long, the Endymion was the largest starship ever built by human hands, a fact you have been reminded of repeatedly during the in-flight information video. When you finally heard the clunk of the shuttle’s magnetic dock, you felt a sudden, fleeting tightness in your chest: This was it. You would not experience the pull of natural gravity for the next fourteen months.

“Hello, and welcome aboard the starship Endymion.” Echoes a soothing, female voice through the Endymion’s speakers. “We hope your ride in the new Starwind Industries Personnel Transportation Shuttle was a pleasant one. Please step aboard. Our fully automated luggage handlers have already begun transporting your personal belongings directly to your room for your convenience. If you do not know where that is, please refer to the second page of your introductory pamphlet. Your residential designation is at the top under the heading ‘Residential Designation.’ If you have lost your introductory pamphlet, please wait at the terminal to your right and you will receive personalized assistance. If you are unaware of any such pamphlet assigned to you, and have not been previously contacted by Starwind Industries with special instructions, you have, in fact, inadvertently boarded the wrong Starwind Industries Personnel Transportation Shuttle. Please remain seated and you will be returned to Earth.”

The rest of the newly-arrived crew begins to go about their business, shuffling through their pamphlets. Most head off through the polished titanium halls to find their rooms, while others decide to stop at the mess hall and pick up some food. Older staff members stand around, greeting the newcomers and directing them around the ship. You notice that the halls have floor lights similar to those of a cinema. To your right is a liquid crystal touch screen, which you recognize as a general diagnostic and information terminal that allows access to the ship’s datastream. No one seems to be needing it.

Logan listens to the voice checks his pamphlet and maps out the way to his room, and then says to the others: "I wish you all a enjoyable stay, see you later, oh and by the way my name's Logan. he waits for a response.

Vergilius looked around. This would be home for the next year. It's too bad FTL never panned out. Walking over to the terminal, Vergil logged on and checked the locations of his room and the nearest lavatory. After a quick glance at the packet material, he shoved them in his jumpsuit pockets. There'd be plenty of time for that later.

"I wish you all a enjoyable stay, see you later, oh and by the way my name's Logan."

Vergil started at the sound. Most people muttered quietly rather than break the almost tangible tension everyone felt. Leaving one home for another was one thing, but one life for another; that was something else entirely, and it weighed.

Logan. God, his parents had been pretentious, naming him after the ancient poet, thinking they were being prescient. The Maro way, he supposed.

"Hello, Logan. I'm Vergil. Might as well get to know each other while we're stuck on this boat, eh?"

Dexter

Hearing Logan's voice roused Dexter out of what seemed to be a very uncomfortable attempt at the beginnings of nap. He looked down at his lap to see the envelope sitting there. Picking it up and going through it, he puts the security card in his back pocket, before using his computer and cellular modem to look up the same general visitors map and information on the Endymion. He saves it all to his computer, before downloading it to his PDA. Upon finishing, he places it all neatly back in his Contractor's Field Bag (CFB). He notices how strange it feels not to have his father's SOCOM under his arm while doing all of this.

While doing all of this, he looks up at the others, "Hey. I'm Dexter. Good to meet you all." He then feels the need to explain his current actions, so he says after a small chuckle, "I know I'll lose this information... I always lose stuff like that. I know I'll keep hold of this." He says, holding up his PDA.

Due to the boredom of space trips, Dexter would have kept his laptop bag with him, although his luggage is in his room.

Logan

Logan looks everyone up and down, calculating things about them from their faces, he thought this lot was a little too cheerful, of course he wasn't one to judge being a very serious person all the time gave people the chills, but he didn't need people. After finishing his examination of the passengers, he stands there in his nice suit, and clothes seemingly out of place. Content with the current silence Logan thought, These guys, they're all just... seeming preoccupied Logan says: See you all later. and he turns and begins to walk off.

David

"Hey guys my names David."
David responded automatically as the others introduced themselves. In truth he was only vaguely paying attention to the conversation. He had met and talked with other people all his life, but this was his first time in a spaceship so he was far more interested in his surroundings than his fellow arrivals. As the conversation played out he was already planning out how to best go about exploring the ship until someone ordered him back to his quarters.

Patrick

Stirred from his standing half-slumber by the energtic fellow, he sighed, rustling through the contents of his own envelope. Pondering the keycard for only a moment, he slipped it into his vest and headed off away from the cluster of people, following directions onto the Zipper, and letting it begin the journey across the ship to his room.

Most of the people stare at at Logan, who's random introduction was somewhat out of place. He receives a few hellos and names, but most head by him without paying him much attention.

Patrick soon realizes that his quarters, like those of many others assigned to Habitat B, are on the other side of the ship. He notices that the quickest way would be to take the magnetic rail, a small train sometimes called a zipper, to the other side of the ship.

David

David quickly finished up his planning and decided what he would do next. After one last look at the people who had been talking he headed to his quarters. He figured that a quick visit would be all he would need to orient on it then he could head over to the medical bay. After all he was a doctor and had a perfectly legitimate reason to go there and see what facilities were available since he would be working there as soon as the ship got under way.

And once he had thoroughly scouted out the med bay he would see where else on the ship he could get to. After all he hadn't been given a work assignment yet so he might as well explore while he still had some free time.

Dexter grabs his field bag and heads to his quarters, staring at his PDA the whole time

Logan heads to his room and neatly unpacks his things on his bed, taking off his suit coat and putting it on a hanger in the closet. He checks all his luggage and unpacks securing his firearms and putting them on his desk, making sure his door was locked he then takes a shower, and rests for a little while.

Dexter

Dexter walks into his quarters, setting his bag on the desk. He walks to his suitcase, which is laying on his bed, and opens it up, beginning to put his clothes in the dresser that was on the left side of his room. As he got down to his last pair of jeans, he found his father's SOCOM pistol, along with it's two extra magazines, in a shoulder holster.

After debating what to do with it, he set it over by his field bag on his desk, and with nothing left to do, laid back on the bed, staring at the ceiling.

Vergilius stood rather astounded by Logan's peculiar behavior. Introducing oneself to the public then instantly becoming bored with the idea and turning away smacked of psychological disorders. Maybe he wasn't loved enough as a child, Vergil chuckled to himself.

He finished checking the data stream and began the walk to his quarters. He assumed management would assign work before too long.

Riding the Zipper was a fairly monotonous ordeal, but upon arriving at his quaters, his opened his case, fit on his light armour over his clothes, snapped the pistol and holster to his waist, and sat on the end of the bed, finishing off the scotch before heading out toward the Security office.

Upon reaching his room, Vergil threw his carry-on onto the tiny cot and sat slowly, not exactly expecting the softest mattress in the system. He was not disappointed. He reached across the cabin and unzipped his luggage.

He pulled out various metal trinkets and began to assemble his beloved, if ancient, Remington 900. No more than being prepared, he thought. He was fairly certain nothing would go awry on the journey, but preferred "safe" to "dead." That done, he placed the rifle on the frame of the bunk and moved to the room's terminal to check for work. Vergilius hated idleness. It bored him immensely.

Logan

Logan stands up from his brief rest.There's work to be done He cracks his neck from side to side then around. Crack Ahh that's better. He opened his case then unpacked his Armor, it had never failed him, putting it on he smiled at it's specially sized fit. Walking over to his closet he pulled out his suit and shirt, He examined them closely for wrinkles. Satisfied he flipped them around his back slid his arms through the holes and put it on.

Once dressed he slid his feet into his black shoes and walked over to his two firearms, taking his weapons in his hands he checked their safeties. My two Eagles. they've helped me a lot and even though their old I wouldn't have it any other way. Loading them he checked to make sure the safeties were on. He slipped them into his holsters and booted up the terminal. Technology these days, as far as I'm concerned it peaked at frozen pizza. Checking for any new updates or assignements he scrolled up and down the list of memos.

Humming quietly to himself David did a quick once over of his gear. He always traveled light so there wasn't much to check so it didn't take long to finish. Satisfied that none of his stuff had been lost on the trip up here, David stood up stretched and left to go down to the med bay. At the door he paused and reconsidered. Deciding to take a few precautions after all David turned around and grabbed his medkit. After all these kind of places never had medkits handy when you needed them, and besides his kit was where he kept his duct tape, and duct tape was always useful.

Now fully prepared David headed out the door on his way to medical to see what he would find.

The Endymion's circular halls are lined with polished metal, and the areas devoted to casual life and living have short, professional carpeting. Screens hang from the ceiling in common traffic areas, airing bulletins and news about various social events and ship status. The entire ship is equipped with fluorescent lighting in the ceiling. When you finally reach your quarters, you find what appears to be a small, yet comfortable hotel room. It has a single room with a television, a desk, a data terminal similar to the one in the hall, and a separate bathroom. It even has a wall-mounted screen that shows a view from the ship's exterior, currently trained on the earth itself. Your bags are placed neatly on the floor in the center of the room.

"Greetings." The familiar voice calls to you as you settle into your quarters. A friendly female face appears on the terminal. The letters P.H.O.E.B.E. appear above her.

"It appears you are just checking in. May I be of assistance?"

Dexter

"Sure P.H.O.E.B.E." Dexter said, looking up at the screen from his bed. "Could you let me know what the specific rules are on the ship for carrying weapons? Also, what security does this room have? And is there any good TV shows that involve explosions of some kind on right now? Dexter asks her with a grin.

Logan

Today's technologies get more and more advanced. Can you play some music? If you can alert the captain I'm ready for duty, and I don't suppose you could make me a pizza? He had never liked modern technology he was old-fashioned and didn't trust the security of online bank accounts and the like. Walking over to the terminal he finishes with, "And if there is anything you want to tell me. Now's the time.

Vergilius laughed as P.H.O.E.B.E.'s face came on-screen. Horny bastards, all of them. Pssht. Programmers.

"It appears you are just checking in. May I be of assistance?" The computer spoke cordially, as programmed.

"Yes. Are there any places for a drink on this deck? I could stand to unwind about now," Vergil said, leaning back. "Also, could you give me a rundown of the ship? Escape pods or similar features would be appreciated. Pressure suits, too."

"Ah hello," said David with a start.

"I didn't think they would give the computer a face but hey it's not bad," he thought to himself.

"Could you show me a map of ship please. And if you could pull up anything that's already been scheduled for me to do." After making his requests David went to the view screen to get a better view of what Earth looked like from space.
