You manage to push the great stone lid of the sarcophagus, you find what you expected a skeleton in long rotted burial clothes. Across its chest you see an old book and a very small leather pouch.

Alex lowers her weapon and follows Dani in.

"Dust. Didn't you say you hate dust Dar?" she says as she grins toward Darren.

Darren looks over at Alex with a hint of annoyance "... do you think I'm wearing this thing because of looks? I'd be choking to death without it. I'm not particularly fond of either. But until I find a way to cure my affliction..."

"I guess... this is... some sort of ancient coffin?" she says toward Dani. "Wanna open it to make sure?"

"I'd rather you don't disturb the dead. Won't want to be disturbed by them either. Plus they have that annoying habit of not caring about a bolt to the vitals."

Dani then helps Alex lift the lid...

Darren watches on as Dani ransacks the sacrophagus.

"... You remind me of a bandit we once met. His last words were: 'What are you afraid of? The bushes being full of lawmen?'"

Darren watches a bit more before going on "Technically, they were full of bounty hunters."

Some more pause.

"Actually, his last utterance was more of an agonized 'aaargh...', followed by gurgling noises, as he drowned in his own blood."

Pause.

"But technically, that isn't a word."

Darren waits for Dani to finish her search and then goes back on to examining the other double door.

As you read through the book, it becomes aparent that it is the memoirs of the long dead man.

And as Darren reaches the center of the long hall, it becomes aparent that the man is not as dead as you thought he was.

The bones of the skeleton snap together, flesh bursts forth from long dead corpse, encassing it's ancient form. Its withered eyes burst open revealing blackened orbs, and from its jaws a horrible ear shattering moan erupts. In its hands the shadows seem to congregate, streaming forth they adorn his form with great armour that seems do draw light from the air, and an axe so sharp that his throes cut deep into the great stone tomb.

Um, guys? Guys! It's alive!
Dani frantically scrambles to get as near the back of the group as she can; she's not a melee person. At all.

Alex hit his own head hard.

"Undead. Why it had to be undead. I totally hate undead. And by totally hate I mean really, REALLY hate undead."

The archeologist knees shivers as she fumbles on her weapon holster. Funny. As an archeologist you thought she'll be more used to undead.

She unholster his whip and hold it ready for attack.

"Might it be an intelligent, kind undead? Hello, sir skeleton, do you understand my speech?"

She repeats that in elven, orcish, draconic, some common dialect variant, and some other language that sounds like gibberish that she invented on the spot.

From behind her, Dani does her best to avoid planting her face in her hands in frustration, instead slipping out her mace and preparing for the inevitable fight.

Darren nimbly draws his daggers. He knows that hr can't really do any damage to the unliving conglomerate of bones bearing down on them.

But he can interfere with it's fighting.

Darren quickdraws his daggers. Since he can't really damage the thing and doesn't believe in diplomacy with undeads, he goes to Aid Another the rest of the group by interfering with the undead's attacks, that is, Aid Another for a -2 penalty to the foe's attack roll. If he can reach with a step and full attack, the 2nd action is also Aid Another in case the boneguy has more the 1 attack.

She put the book on the floor and slowly moves back, still smiling.

An undead creature, hmmm. Curious. I remember the idea of such things frightened me once...

Kritios looks at the creature for a short while until it becomes apparent that he is doing something beyond looking. A low hum rises in pitch and volume and bursts as an explosive 'pop' as Krog is pounded by forces unseen.

As the creature rises from its tomb and you chop it down with ease, but something is amiss. The tomb does not return to its dead silence, but the moans and groans become louder as stone casket crash to the floor. Five more pairs of withered eyes meat your gaze.
