The Last Days of Askess

[TigerHunter]

Ras grins. "My friends and I have dealt with these goblins. This one is our prisoner." He gestures at the hobgoblin with his crossbow.

[Fawkes]

Noah turns to Averi.

"Could I have that flag?"

[Zarah]

Darien looks over the prisoner. "A hobgoblin consorting with his green-skinned brethren. I thought there was something odd about this. What has he told you?"

[TigerHunter]

"Nothing of use."

[Zarah]

"Did you search him for weapons? An armed prisoner is more dangerous than a soldier."

[TheCountAlucard]

Averi nods and hands the flag over to Noah.

"Here you go," he whispers.

[Fawkes]

Noah dips the flag in the ocean and uses it to clean the blood off of his blades.

"Thanks."
He tosses the bloody flag back to Averi.

[TheCountAlucard]

Averi sighs with disdain and tosses the flag into the ocean. Turning to Darien, he says, "I can search him, if you'd like."

He approaches the hobgoblin, setting his jaw as he does so.

Lyra shows her due respect for Darien, giving him a proper salute, "We haven't searched him, and while he's been cooperative to a degree, he is actively unhelpful and unidentified. Otherwise, the situation is secure, though we have our doubts as to the cause of this attack. Coincidences are stacking up in unfavorable light."

"If I may inquire, how is the Admiral and Our Lord?"

[Zarah]

Darien's attention turns to Lyra after her questions. "They're both fine. In fact, the Count asked me to bring you before him so he can personally thank you. All of you. You've been a great help in defending our city today."

[TheCountAlucard]

Averi plucks a note off of the hobgoblin. "I can't read this," Averi says, "But it may be important." He offers it to Darien.

[Glyphic]

Taken aback, Lyra blinks once at Darien, before cooing, "We require no fanfare, Captain. We simply performed our duty as capable and proud Citizens and Soldiers of Askess."

[Zarah]

"Nonsense. My men are the soldiers of this city. You and your friends here made the choice to put your lives at risk. The Count insists on seeing you. Besides, I'm sure a deed such as this won't go unrewarded," he says with a bit of a grin.

However, his smile fades, when he takes the note from Averi and stares at it for a long time before finally saying, "I can't read it either, but it certainly looks like a goblin script of some kind." He hands it to a guard standing to his left. "Get this to Kathryl as soon as possible. She'll be able to translate it."

After giving a salute, the guard hurries back toward the stairs and up into the fort. The crowd is beginning to wander outside again, most people looking over toward the beach, while the others try to get a view of the retreating ships in the bay.

[Fawkes]

"If it's all the same to you, I'll skip the reward ceremony."

Noah begins to walk back toward the town square.

"I'm not too good with people."

With patient words, Lyra addresses Noah, "It is more of an err to skip Our Lord's invitation from humility, than to attend and keep your words humble."

They left the hobgoblin with us?

[phoerix]

Besides, Phoerix starts slowly, turning to Noah, We'll get to meet the Count, something I believe we are all keen on doing Phoerix faces Darien and asks, When would the Count be expecting us? I fear we are all a bit unkempt and would wish for a few hours to prepare ourselves for such a great honor.

Averi smiles and puts his rapier back into its sheath. He rather enjoyed the thought of being rewarded. Unsure of what to do with the tanglefoot bags, Averi holds them in his hand.

[TigerHunter]

"We are unkempt because we were defending the city while the Count sat in his fortress. I don't believe we'd be doing him any great offense to appear before him as we are now."

Ras eyes the bags and torch in Averi's hands. "If those are burdensome, I'd be happy to take them."

[TheCountAlucard]

Averi nods and hands the items to Phoerix's apprentice. "Thanks," he says warmly.

[Fawkes]

"I don't care about the Count. I'm not being humble, either. I'd just prefer to be left alone."

[TheCountAlucard]

Averi frowns at Noah's words. "At least let me heal you," he says.

[Fawkes]

"It's a scratch. Don't waste your spells."

[TheCountAlucard]

The elf shakes his head softly, and then realizes something.

"Oops! I was going to give you this earlier," Averi says, handing a crystal potion vial to Lyra. "This should heal you," he says.

[Glyphic]

With a half smile at Averi, Lyra tends to her wounds, sealing them with Silver light, "I am grateful for your assistance, and kindness. I am all but healed, now. I would be glad to keep that vial, but perhaps another could hold on to it."

She returns her attention to Darien, "I would be honored to accept the Counts Invitation; if you wish to detain this hobgoblin, please do so. When does the count expect us?"

[Zarah]

"He's expecting to see you now, back on the Pavilion. The Count is a man who doesn't like to wait," Darien says with a grin. He then turns to Lyra and continues, regarding the hobgoblin, "Let my men handle it," he gestures toward the remaining guard, who immediately moves toward the prisoner and starts to urge him away, "they know how to handle prisoners. I'm sure he'll talk sooner or later."

[TheCountAlucard]

The elf smiles again and quietly takes back his crystal vial, tucking it carefully into his belt pouch. "Well, I suppose I'm ready, then."

[TigerHunter]

Ras unhooks the string on his crossbow, removing the bolt and returning it to his pouch. He straps the bow onto his back.

"Very well."

[Fawkes]

Noah sighs.

"Guess I don't have a choice."

He begins walking back to the pavilion.

[phoerix]

Flashing a quick smile Phoerix jumps out of the barge, landing with a bow. Well, I guess my beauty rest will just have to wait then. He starts toward the pavilion. Were there any people hurt in the attack byt he catapults?

[Zarah]

"The goblins did a bit of damage, but there weren't any serious injuries. It didn't seem like they were prepared for the siege at all."
