The Gauntlet [#1, Group 1, Attempt 1, IC]
Finally, after months of searching through a seemingly endless jungle you have found it. The Vault of Dame de Rosa was opened with the mournful groan of hot stone on stone action. The massive gear that served as a door slid open after you had provided the correct sequence of arcane code words. You hurried inside, you and your companions were ready for anything.
Though honestly, ready or not you should have expected the door to close behind you. Things like that always happen.
Room One
The chamber before you isn't terribly large (30x30), but ascends nearly 40 feet above your heads. The light spell reveals that the entire space is filled with long vines reminiscent of the jungle vegetation you had fought through outside the vault. Perhaps some of the local plant life had found cracks in the enclosed space and grown their way in over the years. Each vine is connected to the shadowy ceiling high above and descends all the way to the floor. Smaller, leafy vines sprout off the sides of the larger ones like branches off a tree. The room is warm, even more so than the sweltering jungle outside.
As the light spell illuminates the room, a shifting sound is clearly heard. However (36 Listen check), the room is completely silent after that. Almost unnaturally so.
The 20 feet of bright light doesn't reveal anything that could have made those sounds, but the room is so packed full of vegetation that the further dim illumination doesn't reveal the remaining 20 feet of the room in any detail. However, you can barely make out the far wall where a door is likely set in a shadowy recess. A careful eye (30 Spot check) can clearly see that the floor and walls seem to be covered in some sort of greasy substance.
SpoilerListen checks please.
Spot checksonce someone illuminates the room.

I use a scroll of false life on everyone.Me: I'd get the paladin to help, but we might end up with a kid that believes in fairy tales.
DM: aye, and it's not like she's been saved by a mysterious little girl and a band of real live puppets from a bad man and worse step-sister to go live with the faries in the happy land.
Me: Yeah, a knight in shining armour might just bring her over the edge.

Are we supposed to each roll it? Or have the caster roll it?

"You know what this place reminds me of fellas? It reminds me of the Dame de Rosa, who happens to be some kinda magical creature, and a caster of sorts. Kinda like you two. Also Julian, that is the most "bling" amulet of wisdom I have ever seen, I think."

"You know, that is a good idea Ted." With that the Blue Cleric lays down a Detect Magic.
SpoilerI will sweep the cone around the room, concentrating on keeping the spell up for it's full duration to get as much info as possible, or until something happens/reacts.

"Joy to the world! the Lord is come;
Let earth receive her King;
Let every heart prepare him room,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven and nature sing,
And heaven, and heaven, and nature sing.
Joy to the world! the Saviour reigns;
Let men their songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat the sounding joy.
No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make His blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.
He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love."Me: I'd get the paladin to help, but we might end up with a kid that believes in fairy tales.

No one saw anything, because everything they were looking for was already in plain sight.
Fortunately, as the vines begin to twitch and move, and then lash out at the party no one is caught unawares.

Re: The Gauntlet [#1, Group 1, Attempt 1, IC]
The initiative order is as follows.
1. Skeletons (Just roll a single block from now on): 23
2. Bubbles: 20 (Falls)
3. Mammon: 17
4. Loath: 16
5. BBEG: 14
6. Julian: 13 (Falls)
7. George (Celestial Monkey): 7
8. Yuki: 6 (Falls)
9. Loath's Bear: 2 (Falls)
Julian and Yuki slip and fall prone on the greasy surface, as do Bubbles and Loath's Bear.
When you turn comes up, roll Balance against DC 10 to move at half speed. If you fail, roll Reflex again against DC 16 or fall. If you fail Balance by 5 or more you fall without a chance for a Reflex save.

Re: The Gauntlet [#1, Group 1, Attempt 1, IC]
Loath casts a Produce Flame spell (lasts for 9min), and touches the arrows of the skellies.
Then the 3 skellies will fire their flaming arrows at the vines. Not sure about the damage rolls for the skellies, but I think the flame does 1d6+5 damage. Counts as a ranged touch attack.
I think total damage of the skellies flames together are: (4d6+20)[39]Last edited by slurpz; 2009-01-02 at 01:43 AM.

Total damage of skellie group is 2d8+6 (maximized) x 2 (if critical hit) + 11 + 8 + 33 (fire damage) if all 3 hit.

Re: The Gauntlet [#1, Group 1, Attempt 1, IC]
Two flaming arrows strike the vine closest to the party, it flails and thrashes angrily.
The third passes by, soars across the room, and strikes the wall.
The room explodes into flame.
SpoilerThe floor is no longer under effects similar to the grease spell.
Anyone who failed a DC16 Reflex save takes 13 fire damage. Those who save take half (or none if you have evasion).
The vines pass their turn, thrashing wildly to avoid the flames.
The flames are persistent, the room is still on fire.
