"I remember you had one of the shoelace grenades, right? You'll need a match to use it."

"Thanks Gem, I was just looking for one of these myself! Now get outta here soldier, if the tank doesn't see either of us it won't know that we're here - I can just throw this baby outta that window and 'viola' my deed is done. I'll be able to scramble up to the second floor before anybody knows anything different."

Gem ran back over to the car, and wriggled into the back seat, lying low. He double checked his grenade, his rifle, and said a brief prayer to any god that would have him.

Snow sprinkles down like rain in slow motion, the air bites and cold works itself in through your uniforms, skin and flesh to chill the bones. So cold. The engine sound is getting louder, memories of shell-shocked fathers, uncles and brothers come home from the front flash past in your mind... their silence, reluctance to speak of the war. The damning voice on the radio at the use of new and terrible machines, gasses that melt the lungs and pox the skin and murderous snipers that stalk the noman's land hunting the unwary.

You're brought back to reality by movement... something up the street, 100 meters... Rada. One, two... four of them cross the north end of the street, looking down it. One has binoculars.

Gem carefully peeked over the backseat, and rested his rifle on the seat, taking care to expose it as little as possible. He looked straight at the one with the binoculars, and eased his finger closer to to the trigger.

((I'm about to fire, next post. I'm aiming, have my gun propped up, etc. What's the dice?))

Skull peeked out at the tank, looking for anything he could use to his advantage.

((The tank's not here yet. Just infantry.))

The fellow with the binocs looks at the car... he shouts alarm in Rada tongue, Gem has been spotted! The four Rada hit the deck and raise guns. Gem can fire on them but they're suddenly small targets, roll two D6 dice to fire.

Skull can get out from under the dashboard and do the same if he props the gun - such as through the window or something. Or do something else. The Rada are well outside grenade range. Those in the east and west apartments can either remain in cover or lean out windows to fire, it becomes a pair of D8 dice for them if they do.

Further awareness rolls not needed. Someone at every location has twigged that there are Rada troops up the street.

What the hell? Fangs immediately leans out and takes his shots at two of the enemy soldiers (including the one with the binoculars), adrenaline beginning to get flow through his body, leaning back inside afterwards.

"Sunnavabitch!" Twitch quietly mutters in disgust. "We need a clean shot on that tank!"
Twitch quickly starts heading towards the enemy, moving parallel to the street and sticking inside the buildings or to the side alleyways. Bayonet on, safety off, his blood is coursing adrenaline through his veins as, true to his namesake, his fingers constantly flex and unflex nervously.

Gem cursed under his breath, and pulled the trigger.

Skulls plan relied on the enemy not knowing he was there, but if the had spotted the other dvergar in the car, the plan was dead in the water. Propping his gun on the windowsill, Skull fired twice.

Twitch cannot move parallel via buildings because they are not linked, just build against each other. Side alleys would amount to another street.

The Rada rifles flash. Gem feels a bullet punch his belly before he hears the report - it went straight through the car, him, and out the other side! Pain lances through and doubles him over. Fang's shot has similar results on one of the Rada, pounding into a shoulder. The rest of the first volley are high, wide or fall short. Gem might be stunned by the hit but others frantically work bolts while the Rada do the same with well-drilled ease. They fire again... Gem is struck twice in the chest and conciousness is overrun with pain, he blacks out bleeding heavily. Another good shot from Fang snaps a Rada straight through the torso, killing him, while Eyes and Box-top both kill one - pity it's the same one.

The Rada infantry up and run, both heading right & back into the main street - one is obviously flagging after being shot by Fangs. They're upright but moving targets. Gem's Out of Action but Skull can fire, D10. Those in the window have a D12.

The Fallen

Out of Action means you're down until combat has ended, you can be revived after.

Critically Wounded means you're out for the mission. If untreated you will die. If treated your character survives (technically) to join in the next mission.

Dead characters cannot be revived; if they're not dead already they will be in a turn or two and may take no actions. Roll new character.

OOC: Can the roof be reached, are the roofs flat and could I walk from one building to the next on the roof till the crossing?

The rooves are slightly sloped, icy and treacherous. You can walk on them but must move with care. It will take few turns to get up there.

((Are there any actions I can perform? I no the answer is know, but I just want to make sure. Also, will I bleed to death? And are the Rada subject to the same dice as we are? Because i just got hit three times. That would require six 6s.))

Hands cursed his bad shots. Only three bullets left, hopefully they would be more useful than the two he had wasted. Hands saw the car that Gem was hiding in peppered with shots and calls out to the others: "Someone get Gem outta there!" Hands decides to conserve his ammunition... for now.

Shooting now is just a waste of ammo. I need a better position. "I'm going to ground level." Fangs runs down to the ground floor and lies down behind cover for the most stability for his shots as possible. If there is a wall right-angled to the street, he will use that as cover, if not, he uses the frame of the front door of the building he is in. Whatever the cover, he aims around the corner of the cover, down the road.

((Enemies use exactly the same dice system as you. That's what makes these rules so dangerous; what's more Rada are dvergr like you, so they're every bit as tough. Yes they rolled well, bleeding is fatal given time - Gem has three bullet wounds.

Eyes curses under his breath. He glances down the street, then frowns. "Well now they know we're here. We need to move, or that tank will just blow up the whole building.." He gets up and runs across the street, taking cover in that building.

Skull says some words that make the remaining paint on the car peal, then heads over to Gem, taking bandages out of his pocket on the go. Poor sod, got shot three times. Skull bandages him up to the best of his abilities(Roll required?) and drags him over to the west apartment, and placing him there. Now try not to get shot more, okay?
