    Titus Velius

    IC:

With the arrival of the Papal Bull, Titus knew he had to act fast against the capital and put an end to the war.

Amassing his availible forces against the capital, the siege engines begin to bombard the last remaining obstacle in his rule over Southern Italy. From the sky, the Gryphons flew high above staying out of the range of the human archers and dropped burning pots of oil atop the defenders structures attempting to burn most of the place to the ground.

Once again, underground Naga search out routes to bypass the defenses of the main walls and gates.

In the meantime the following messages are sent:

Queen Joan of Naples forced this war upon herself by refusing to open up diplomatic talks after her agents had wrongfully encroached on my lands and harrassed my subjects. I am merely protecting my interests in the region and will leave the governmental body that is running Naples in place with the only change being a small tithe paid to my court.

I will gladly donate the lion's share of this tithe to the Papacy to show my eternal loyalty to our Lord, Jesus Christ and his mortal agent the Holy See.

    20 Boats

After the feast, Lord Shtall and Ged sit down at a table covered in maps to negotiate the trade between them.

"Lord Shtall, I regret to inform you that we come not for trade, but for the waging of warfare. I request that you provide assistance, and in exchange we will provide goods from the warm lands of England. Not only that, but we will use our own boats for your trading ends."

A scout burst into the room, smelling strongly of gryphon.

"My leige, many strange creatures have been seen along the coast, half woman and half seal"

"Selkies, fey temptresses similar to mermaids. I recommend that you not allow any new women into your camp and that if you see anyone with a sealskin robe you take it and burn it. For the selkies wear their soul on their shoulders."

The Golden Horde, a superpower of Eastern Europe, has fractured as one of its Asian rivals apparently invaded it following a series of reforms aimed at centralizing power among an elite of the Khan and his chosen followers. one of the other Asian khanates invaded it for this and gained support among some of the Asian regions, who for reasons unknown defected to them. The golden horde is now more centralized, still has its European holding and a significant portion of it's Asian ones.

She sneers at Daemos, "We fey are not as needlessly bloodthirsty as you, sorcerer. If I really wished you dead, you would have been pierced by a thousand ivory arrows before you could blink. Indeed, this would probably win Robert's heart easily compared to slaying one of his captains. But I have heard of you, Daemos, and I know that there is one who has sworn to drive you out of the Isles. Before you leave this camp, there is one thing I would wish you to know: you deal with things that you have no knowledge of, black sorcerer. Davin Argetlam is unstoppable in battle, and if you do not leave these isles now your doom will be swift. However, he is known to be merciful - if you surrender, he might allow you to live.

Robert, as one of Davin's captains, I humbly suggest that you beware. As you have just seen, Daemos is bloodthirsty and unbalanced. He could strike at you, as you are Davin's King in the North."

Giedrius smirks as he reads the missive. He crumples it up, then begins sending out orders. The army is to begin consolidating its position around the three villages they already took and everything within a day's walk. The new border is studied from the air, with the most likely route for a Bulgarian army to take being determined, and any defensive position along such a route.

The larger of the two routes through the forest is blocked by a huge number of trees being cut down so that they fall into the road to form a large, entangled mess; any attempt to get through the blockade would be long and difficult. To complicate matters, most of the trees are dragged into a large pile to make the blockade that much bigger and more difficult.

At the other route, defenses are dug inside the tree line on either side of the road, mostly trenches and archer blinds. Any large trees next to to the road are cut part way through so that they can easily be dropped onto the road.

Giedrius himself personally apologizes to the chief of the centaurs. He explains how a large force of humans on horses would soon be coming up the road to take back villages that had sworn to him. The few trees being cut down were only a means of protecting himself and his people.

They are then invited to a feast, where many of Giedrius' own centaurs are present, there to speak to their brethern and encourage them to join with Giedrius. Later that night, the chief is offered a place on his war council if his tribe will join him. They will be given the forest as their own domain, to use as they see fit. All they will be required to do is keep watch for invaders and help Giedrius defend it.

Your attack on London is a great success! You've captured the majority of the city with little damage to the merchant's quarters or general populace while surprising the defending garrison and reducing it to half its strength (5,000 casualties) while suffering only three hundred and fifty casualties yourself (two hundred and fifty dark sidhe, 100 decataurs and 50 gryffons). However, the remaining defenders have ensconced themselves in defensive positions around the palace and remain firmly entrenched.
The scotsmen take slightly heavier casualties (around 500).
While fighting your way through England you've also taken another seven hundred casualties of Dark Sidhe, three hundred decataurs and fifty gryffons. The scoutsmen have lost eighteen hundred men and five hundred horse.

Your skelkies encounter a major fleet outside of Essex. The navy is compromised of many light ships well suited for combating your amphibious troops, though they be inexperienced. A second fleet is rumored to be sailing through the English channel to join up with the main force. Do you engage?

Your commando style attack on King Edward goes sadly afoul. You slay several royal guards as you make your way quickly through the castle and hunt him down, only to find that you've captured a double! It seems someone saw you coming and set up an ambush. The trap is sprung and the force pins your elite troops down, sacrificing their lives while reinforcements arrive. At this point the routed defenders are streaming in, and while demoralized the palace guards manage to rally them to the defense. Exploiting this moment of confusion you and your elite troops fight your way out. You succeed, but all but you and one of your men are cut down as they take the blows intended for you. At last you make it back to your own base, heavily but not severely wounded.

You've lost your bodyguard. Retrain from soldier pool at will.

At last Robert speaks: "Daemos, while I appreciate your proper attitude the fact is that we" - he indicates the Skelkie representative - "are on a war footing. Peace is already gone and as much as we may wish to salvage it, Edward will not be very forgiving if we slink back to our homes."
"I accept your recognition of my rightful throne and I will reward you for it at the right time. But for now, me and Davin, the Fey gentleman must fight together as one!" He rises and leaves the tent.

International News and Rumors: You heard of a savage war in England that has taken hold even on the streets of London as fey and Scotsmen ride and march south, pillaging their way through the landscape. Strategic positions are occupied by the Scotsmen, but the bulk of the northern army as well as all the fey make their way deep to the southeast of England, assaulting its capital!

A large army compromising the bulk of England's soldiers has amassed in Oxfordshire. In size it seems to total far more than the entirety of the Scottish and fey army, though many of the recruits are but simple peasant draftees. A large force of cavalry compromised one tenth of the force.
The army is rumored to be led by the missing King Edward of Scotland or one of his princes.

The common wisdom is that the victor of the battle will remain the sole major force of the island outside of the English garrisons in Wales.

The new centaur clan is quickly put to work. Most of them are instructed to watch the other path in case the Bulgarians attempt to clear it. Some of them are sent to the southern edges of the forest to wait for sign of the Bulgarians and send back word of which route they are taking.

A message is sent back to the Cuman Emperor, telling him that the three villages have all sworn to him in gratitude for defending them from the raiders. He would be remiss if he simply abandoned them.

The goblins are recalled, to be used in the defense of the road. Work continues in digging fortifications. All the rocks dug up are used to build a small wall across the road.

As Robert's army marches south, the army amassing at Oxfordshire makes a horrifying discovery: the Sidhe strike at their stomachs, not at their bodies.

For miles around the army, the Sidhe burn, pillage and destroy all stockpiles of food - fading away when English soldiers attempt to pin them down. Caravans bringing food are attacked every night, with the Sidhe seeking only to burn and ruin the food.

    --

The Essex fleet is attacked by Skelkie archers at night - the seal women emerging from the waves only to fire and then submerge. Several Skelkies swim up underneath the ships and set them afire.

    --

Davin Argetlam is now Lord of London, but he retreats to the Otherworld for several days to heal his wounds. He leaves 1500 Dark Sidhe in London to keep command - or at least to stop the soldiers in the palace from sallying forth. He himself emerges from the Otherworld near Oxfordshire in a minstrel's garb, interested in seeing his opponent's camp.

Giedrius summons his entire army to aid in the defense, save of course the goblins. The fortifications are finished. The local centaur and some of the orcs are tasked with making a line of brush and branches from the fortifications along either side through the forest, to hinder any attempts to get through that way. Everything possible is being done to force the Bulgarians to take the main road, and ONLY the road. And then the waiting begins.

Giedrius is not a religious man, but he does pray that the majority of his forces make it out of this alive.

"Though we be cursed to war for now, King Robert, know this: Once the head of your Fey master rests firmly off his shoulders, I will again come to negotiate an alliance"

    The English front

Thoroughly enraged, King Edward of England sends the full brunt of his might to the front against the Scots. Though he was prepared to wage war against the French, he instead sends his attacks toward the Scottish front. Daemos sends his gryphons on bombing raids against the Fey. His ships (Other than those still in port in Iceland) land along the french coast for just enough time to pick up Daemos's army which had been sneaking through the French countryside to reach the English Channel. They also load one massive siege engine, partially disassembled.

With dwindling supplies due to the pillaging the large army at Oxfordshire starts moving towards London. You lose only fifty Dark Sidhe from this tactic but have substantially inconvenienced the enemy.
Your attack on the fleet off of Essex is a draw due to your innovative tactics. The enemy is well prepared with bolts and nets but you manage to sink two ships. You take a hundred casualties, and clear the deck of a third ship, capturing it. The enemy has lost 90 sailors and 150 marines. The remaining 37 ships move south towards London to join up with the smaller fleet.

A force of fey has landed in Dover and met up with a large portion of reinforcements based over in the continental territories that was intended to attack France. [Free Soldiers ->] A few thousand scotsmens and five hundred Dark Sidhe have volounteered and come to reinforce you from the north.

You receive reports of unsuccessful guerrilla strikes at your supply route and occupied positions along the English cities and countryside. It seems you missed some nobility on the way and that they organized into an insurgency.

Special Event: As you emerge from the otherworld it is strangely night and you find yourself in an empty palace to the right-hand side of an empty throne. From the left a humanoid being rises out of the even granite floor, at first appearing like a gargoyle, but the rock slides back like liquid into the floor revealing a beautiful human with wings of the darkest nights and eyes the colors of molten rock approaches you, two items in hand... a crown of blackened elderwood and a golden scepter with a large, red ruby inlaid at its top. You sense these are artifacts of great power that will influence a significant portion of Englishmen, but that they will also exert a mild influence on you. The creature offers up these two items to you, eyes fixed on you with a steady gaze.

(This isn't a dangerous situation and you will make it out so I'll wait for your reply and move on to your appearance as minstrel later now to save time...)

You appear up close to the thundering hooves of knights, line after line. From what you can make out in your position there are over two thousand professional knights and a thousand number of lesser horsemen. The soldiers number over twenty thousand, but less than half of them are professional, many of them just young lads, old men, fathers and able-bodied men wielding everything from daggers to spears to clubs to wooden spears. They are ill-organized and are preying on the countryside.
Whatever this army intends to do it must do so quickly or the bulk of it may get it into trouble or start to desert.

If you're offerin' it to me, I'll gladly take it." He looks up at the figure. The King was a little taken aback by the request, when suddenly a skelkie walked into the room, accompanied by a guard. The creature reminded the King of his Naga servants and soldiers. "Welcome to my court, what can I do for you?" Asked the King to the skelkie, still thinking about what Ged had to say.

Your fey senses somehow tell you that the spirit is angered, but it hides it well. Speaking out in a soft, melodic tone it urges you to take the crow:
"I am glad that the Crown pleases you Prince. It is merely a reminder in your heart and mind of the contract you sign if you accept it. You will know our wills and desires though you may choose to refuse them. For the crown in your hand is taken from the shadows of Edward's reign and grants Kingship as the representative of all the Netherworld partly or wholly present in England. It has the power to sway all godless citizen within the boundaries of this realm. But the scepter commands them." Then suddenly the being's voice takes on a sulferous tone.
"Should you prove worthy of your ambition, upon the eve of ascending an English throne of steel you shall begin gathering all the unbaptized children of England in preperation of Solstice. On the darkest of days when the sun nary grazes the sky, then you must bring them to the moor outside of Glasgow. There my lord's will shall be done."

The trees around you have all turned to a thick circle of ancient oaks, and in the center is a stone with a sword stuck in it. Runes on the stone read: "If your heart be incorruptible, take this sword. Its wielder will be nigh undefeatable in battle and it shall summon a spirit of old in flesh and should this flesh be destroyed another hero shall take its place till the blade be exhausted.
But should your spirit waver or your methods be found lacking it would be better for you to throw yourself from the highest cliff to be dashed against the rocks of the sea."

Turn your allegiance against Robert the Brute in the midst of battle. I swear with God as my witness that if you spare my country and my men of this exhausting war (that I would win) England shall never bother your countrymen again.

    The Sword In the Stone

Looking gravely upon the blade, Daemos considers the opportunity put before him.

"Ah, the old sword in the stone. A timeless tool for the selecting of kings. I wonder what it means by 'incorruptible' though. I walk the line between the corrupted and the purified, but I hope my intentions are good at heart."

Taking the sword firmly in his grip, Daemos pulls lightly on the hilt while pumping great amounts of light energy into the stone. The white runes on Daemos's hand and a half sword glowed bright and the sword in the stone began to budge...

    Fortifications

Most of the stone taken from the quarry is used to erect stone walls to replace the wooden palisades that surround the villages under Unai's control. Rough roads are made throughout Lord Tressevian's kingdom to make the transport of stone easier. Another portion of the excavated stone is set aside for use as missiles by the newly created siege engines.

    The Golden Horde

News of attacks against the Golden Horde reaches Lord Unai's ears, troubling him deeply. He readies a messenger and sends this letter to the Khan:
"I have heard of the grievous attacks made against you, my lord, and am sorry to hear of your suffering. I wish to reassure you that the flow of iron from my land will not cease as long as the precious metals given to me continue to arrive. I hope that you will be able to reclaim your lost lands and punish those responsible for this crime.

    Your honored ally,
Lord Unai Tressevian, Ruler of Gallacia"
