    Default 4E Arena, Test Round #1

    This is the first test of the 4E Arena system, testing out standard one-on-one combat.


    The trumpets sound a fanfare as the two challengers enter the arena from opposite sides. The arena is arrayed as a large, desolate temple, with six large columns around the outside and eight smaller columns inside, all of which can be used for cover. In the center of the arena is a shallow reflecting pool, which is difficult terrain.

    Both contestants will roll initiative first, with the winner choosing which side (Red or Blue) he would like to start in. The map will be updated periodically to reflect moves.

    When you roll initiative, post up the link to your sheet so everyone can see. It just makes everything easier. Also, somewhere in each post, the combatant should include something like the following:

    Burrik will begin the battle in the Red section, in square K-19. He'll walk to square P-17 (move action), ready his shield (standard action), and draw his craghammer.

    Arjhan will start the battle in K-2 and walk over to P-4 (move) drawing a javelin (minor) and whipping it at the dwarf (standard), the projectile sails through the air and... ((botches the GiTP dice roller thing, I'm new at this here...))

    The stout dwarf rips the javelin out and tosses it down, charging forward toward the enemy as fast as his squat legs can carry him. "Ha," he cries, "Now we'll fight like real men, not like pansy elves throwing and shooting stuff at each other!"

    Double move up several squares, then charge straight at the dragon-man.

    My craghammer is Brutal 2, meaning if it rolls below a 2 I keep re-rolling until it's above a 2. I'm just gonna say that, instead of dealing 1d10 and re-rolling, it just deals straight 1d8+2 damage (which is basically the same thing). Is that cool with you?

    Reeling from the mighty hammer blow, Arjhan roars and vomits forth a gout of acid (minor)

    Dragon Breath: (1d20+6)[11] vs Reflex
    If Hit: (1d6+2)[8] acid damage

    The barbarian follows up by drawing his sword (minor action) and, hoping to end the fight here and now, takes a mighty, but reckless, swing...

    Avalanche Strike: (1d20+8)[9] vs AC
    If hit: (3d10+7)[30] damage

    If it hits and the dwarf doesn't fall like a sack of bricks he'll set off the daily power on his sword and Burrik will take a -2 to attack rolls (save ends)
    It did not
    Avalanche Strike also opens Arjhan up for attack, granting Burrik +4 on his next attack roll.

    Yeah, the one thing about the forum roller is that it ALWAYS seems to be biased against, well, everyone, at some point or another.


    The dwarf raises his shield just in time to ward off the caustic breath of the dragon, and then ducks under his sword. The wild swing gives the dwarf an opportunity, which he seizes upon, striking at the dragon-man's legs before shifting back behind the column to take a quick breather.

    (Basically, standard action to use steel serpent strike and mark you, move action to shift to O-6, and then minor action to use my second wind, for +7 HP and +2 to defenses until the end of my next turn.)

    Attack: (1d20+12)[30] vs. AC
    Damage if Hit: (2d8+11)[20], and you are slowed and can't shift until the end of my next turn.
    --(That's [1d8+2] + [1d8+2] + 7)

    The dwarf's mighty hammer succeeds in bringing down the dragon-man, knocking him out cold. The friendly arena clerics come in to stabilize and heal up Arjhan, and both combatants leave the arena.


    Good fight, Asbestos. I think we've just seen one big problem about 4E PvP - characters do a LOT of damage, and matches probably aren't going to last very long at low levels. I guess that's okay, though. More discussion in the original thread, I think, would be good.
