I'm not too sure about this episode. It's nice to see them taking the Luna-out-of-date theme that pretty much everyone had and going with it, although I'm not sure how much I prefer her revealed personality. (Note that it isn't bad, and it fits her well. I'm just not sure how much I personally prefer her over others now.)

Probably the biggest problem I had was the "adults" (Applejack, Colgate, Mayor Mare) being scared and cowering just like the children. I could easily see Pinkie and the kids screaming and running, then laughing it off afterwards. However, when you have someone like the Mayor hiding under her hooves, it's kind of hard to take it as 'everyone in town was just enjoying being scared'. Even if everyone in town does typically overreact to everything...

Also, I noticed Scootaloo dressed up as a werewolf. Sweetie Belle was probably the vampire next to her. However, they were hanging out with the pegasus in the astronaut helmet - I didn't see Applebloom anywhere.

But I just can't get over Luna's personality and the massive plot-holes.

I just feel this could have been handled way, way better. This just feels like an average episode of a below average show.

I don't believe that spoiling a work would lead me to enjoy it more. I think the greatest moment in reading any work is figuring out a twist the moment before it's revealed. Too early and it feels predictable, too late and it feels confusing.

She respects CELESTIA and looks up to her as a mentor/parent figure. I don't remember any instance where she worried about royal protocol or "social order" etiquette. If anything she's LESS impressed by the appearance of the princess than the others. I didn't get the impression she'd met Luna between episode 2 and now but I can see why she would be more willing than the others to gently challenge her behavior

Hmm, I think the spoilers are a result of leftover momentum from discussion about new!Luna. I've just been keeping them to be safe, but we can drop them if you prefer.

As far as Vinyl's character goes, the image of her in my head has her being confident and maybe a little cocky. She's kind of like RD, but instead of flying, her real passion is music. I personally like to think of her as a bit of a prankster as well. She's also got a little bit of party pony in her, since she does work as a DJ; although it's more like the pony version of a clubber than Pinkie's zany party spirit.

Admittedly, there's still a lot of room in that for interpretations. Really the only takes I kind of dislike are the ones that have her constantly cursing or talking like a surfer dude, or doing a lot of illegal drugs - it might fit with the 'DJ' feel, but it seems kind of un-pony-like to me. Really, I keep coming back to RD as a touchstone - she's confident, assertive, maybe a little loud and in-your-face at times, but still able to be nice/civil when she needs to be, and even capable of being cute and a little girly now and then.

I can't argue with the jokes. They were pretty good. But I just found Luna to be awkward. I'm kinda hoping Luna won't be making many more appearances now.
Also, this episode destroyed my favourite fanfic. And that's terrible.

I enjoyed the episode and Luna, but I definately wouldn't say I loved it or that it was better than the previous three episodes. I would totally be open to seeing them do more with Luna in the future. I didn't have any preconceptions about what she "should" be like though

Hasn't Luna being awkward been the basis for like 80% of fics that have Luna. You lose 1000 years of defining history and see how well adjusted you are. If pony history is similar to human history (probably not) even just a century would be devastating to miss.

I'm sorry, man, but I have to completely disagree. I loved how they made Luna's character out to be. I thought it really worked, from the awkwardness, to the frustration she's so obviously feeling, to her sheer hammy personality at points. I thought it all worked.

Especially the sarcasm. I loved the sarcasm.

I have to concur with Esper. In fact, a fair number of people have called out this Luna as being very reminiscent of the Luna in the popular story Progress (which was the fic that spawned the running gag of Abacus). I think this was just about the best way they could have gone about things - especially since they wouldn't have been able to go into the more tragic/emotional elements of her return, given the nature of the cartoon.

And If you must know, The fanfic is The Worst Bakers in Equestria. "Destroy" was probably the wrong word for what it did. "Present Luna in a totally different way" is closer.
