Of all the past antagonists, I'd say Trixie or Discord (or perhaps Nightmare Moon in a form) as the most likely to return. Trixie would be most appropriate for a Canterlot appearance, although one of the previous season-opener antagonists showing up for the two-part ending might work out.

Yes, I loved him. And that's why I am so mad that he was wasted in this show - he wasn't given respect such good villain deserves. This character had so much potential that wasn't used properly I grin my teeth whenever I think about it.


Character development is never padding. By that definition entire Persona 4 is nothing but padding and the same but more. You don't give up the idea to make caracter more interesting and three-dimensional because it's "padding" - that's the most important part of every story. It is terribly lazy writing to just have her magically make everything better in five seconds,on Spider-Man: One More Day levels of badness.


I'm not talking about Discord. I'm talking about this whole mindrape thing being compared to some Vulcan thing from Star Trek. Mindmelting, mindmending, mindbending...that thing Kirk and Spock's dad does in third movie. I'm talking about the fact they could have let the plot go to make that refference.


And Celestia can't beat Discord issue - it raises another question - why he didn't do anything to her? She turned him into stone statue for thousands of years and he doesn't look like a guy who would let something like that slide - why he didn't just went to the palace and punched her into a duck?!


About increasing thendency to make RD be always wrong and needed to be taught a lesson. Like Wheeler from Capain Planet.

Not ALL of your points, but some I can touch on:

-I think all of us would be happy to see Discord back. And he was a way more hands-on villain than NMM, he had tons of style and wasn't afraid to get his paws dirty. He made a solid impression I wouldn't say he was wasted any more than I would say that Trixie or The Wonderbolts were because they don't appear very often.

-I love Persona 4, but it has PLENTY of padding. Plus with a video game you aren't limited to a fixed number of minutes of screen time and no more. The characters get plenty of development, but it tends to come in episodes where they get to be the focus and their choices are what drives the story. I didn't think the "remind them why we're friends" magic was an ass pull. That the power of the elements is based on friendship is well established, as is the "special connection between friends" theme of the show.

-I don't know where this mind meld thing is coming from. I don't think it was meant to be a Trek reference, although I guess you could read it that way if you were so inclined.

-Maybe he would have gotten around to it eventually. He had a good time screwing with the Mane 6, a good time messing with Ponyville, and then got squished. If Celestia had confronted him directly he almost certainly would have gone after her.

-The pony the episode focuses on is almost always doing something wrong and needs to be taught a lesson. Heck, that's why the end of Super Cider Squeezy is a clever subversion.

To be fair, we asked him to come here and tell us what he didn't like. He's been happy to meet us halfway here, has written coherently about his concerns, and hasn't resorted to ad hominem as far as I can tell. By internet debate standards, he's freakin' Socrates.

Eakin already noted that the conversation has been quite civil and he was asked to come here. Besides, we can take a little criticism.

You know there was literally no media I could have picked for that without annoying somepony, right? Literally nothing. Reading Rainbow (the show, not the pony) is usually my standby for the thing that nopony ever hates, ever. However, it also doesn't teach any negative lessons and I was looking for something with a more anti-hero type of main character to make the point that just because someone takes an action in the show doesn't mean that people have to emulate that specific action.


Oh and for new thread title, let's go with the riots. It was fun and...wait there are still unexploded wardroids. And I'm right here staging an intervention. C'mon, he's a Fair Folk Noble. The Fair Folk are perfectly capable of Shaping attacks. Sidereal Shaping is more along the lines of retcons, camera angles, editing, and well placed background characters. Pinkie is a much better Sidereal than Discord.
