Not interested in...
- Screamo or songs that are 'creepy' because they're letting loose blood-curdling howls instead of music.
- Werewolves in London. Just not a fan despite the recommendations every year.
- Any more Michael Jackson stuff.Last edited by Silkspinner; 2012-10-12 at 06:34 PM.

Re: Halloween Playlist III
It all depends on how creepy you want it. Definately check this recent thread.
Pink Floyd is generaly a good choice for somewhat deranged or haunting music.
Elfman has a habit of composing haunting themes as well.
Soundtrack from Coralina is IMO spot-on.
In the same vain would be this little gem (music starts around 1:00).
Kilar composed an amazing soundtrack for Dracula, but it might be a bit too heavy in comparison to the others.
Meybe some pieces from Scherlock Holmes soundtrack.
If we focus on lyrics instead of music, then there is this piece by Big Bad Voodoo Daddy or you can peruse Ghostbusters soundtrack. In a war it doesn't matter who's right, only who's left.

I'll check it out. thanks for all the suggestions.

I like that Sleepy Hollow one despite how horrible that film was. Beetlejuice not so much.

I love those soundtracks but not feeling the creep vibe.

Re: Halloween Playlist III
Not trying to nitpick, but Pink Floyd is a (are a?) 'They'. It's a band. Sorry for being pedantic but it's a relatively common mistake that bugs me, mostly because Pink Floyd's one of my favourite bands.
Anyways, for contributary purposes....
A lot of the ambient tracks from the Portal 2 soundtrack are pretty creepy. Good examples are Overgrowth, Ghost of Rattman, and Haunted Panels. Best of all, all three volumes are free!Last edited by JabberwockySupafly; 2012-10-10 at 12:32 AM.

Re: Halloween Playlist III
Anything from the Bioshock soundtrack or Bioshock 2 soundtrack.
Gary Schyman nailed the "creepy-without-random-screams" in both soundtracks, which helped make both games perfect, in my opinion.
The soundtrack from the first game is actually available for free (LEGALLY, it was distributed online by the developers).
The soundtrack for the second was actually released as an album labeled "Sounds from the Lighthouse", though I'm not sure its regularly available. Youtube has some of it, and there's one video with the entire track. I personally like it better than the soundtrack released from the first game, but its harder to find.

Re: Halloween Playlist III
What about something a bit more obscure, like say a bit of Gothabilly?
Reverand Glasseye - Black River Falls.
Or something like Vermillion Lies - Long Red Hair or Circus Apocalypse which is possibly a thing called Dark Cabaret?

Wasn't a mistake. It was a generalization. If it has a man name I call it He, if it has a woman's name, say, Alice In Chains, I call it She. If it doesn't have a sexed name it's a They.
Carol of the Bells
American McGee's Alice
2. Ha, yeah, been all through that soundtrack. Has some good stuff.
Circus Apocalypse
Anything from the Bioshock soundtrack or Bioshock 2 soundtrack.

The Pinwheel Boss Battle Music from Dark Souls is one of my favourite 'creepy' tracks. Can't believe I didn't mention this one in my first post.

Lordi, man. Just, like... Lordi.
If you want examples, here's Blood Red Sandman. Or Would You Love a Monsterman if you can handle the cheese factor.
Oh! Oh! Ozzy's Crazy Train!
You've had something by Within Temptation so I guess you know of Dark Wings.
Inkubus Sukkubus is nice and witchy.
Shame you don't want the more ambient stuff, or I could recommend something like Elend or Dargaard or Arcana (although I guess I just did).
Edit:
So you'd call Alice Cooper "her"? That's just... no, man.Last edited by Feytalist; 2012-10-11 at 02:55 AM.

I've had that suggest multiple times over the years. Even with Apocalyptica doing it I've never gotten the slightest creep vibe from it.

However, those are some pretty nice ones. Elend particularly

Updated the list. Found a few other awesome ones, such as a couple Florence & the Machine I'd never heard before.
A few more songs and I think I have this year's playlist

Re: Halloween Playlist III
I'd actually suggest any of the songs from the Ghost albums by Nine Inch Nails. It's very different than their normal stuff, and very creepy. Here's a link to the first song from the soundtrack. It's more melancholy than some of the others, but I figure it's best to just browse through and see what you like. The Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines is another great soundtrack for horror music. Here's a sample.

Re: Halloween Playlist III
Never listened to NIN before, but after a couple dozen songs I've come to the conclusion I'm definitely not a fan.
The Masquerade songs are actually kind of pretty. Discordant I guess, but none are really anything I'd listen to and think Halloween CD. Gonna steal a couple for other playlists though.

Re: Halloween Playlist III
Certainly try out more of Elend's discography when you have a chance. The vocals are sometimes a bit discordant, with The Umbersun being almost a whole album full of feverish screams, but the music stays on that "horror movie soundtrack" feel. Wonderfully atmospheric.
...are you me?
Ghosts is great ambient music, yeah, but really only a handful of the songs on it are creepy. There are some that remind me of walking through a huge forest at dusk, and some that remind me of my dad's woodwork shop, so it's wonderfully evocative, just not really all that disturbing. Mostly.
And I love the Bloodlines soundtrack. Hell, even the main menu music is awesome. And the Chinatown and Hollywood themes are wonderfully creepy.Awesome fremetar by wxdruid.

Re: Halloween Playlist III
From the Bioshock 1 Soundtrack, all of them really fit the "creepy" theme except for "The Ocean on His Shoulders" and "Welcome to Rapture". In particular, "All Spliced Up", "Dr. Steinman", and "Cohen's Masterpiece" are probably the ones I would point to as the most creepy.

Re: Halloween Playlist III
Well, here are a couple of ideas from me:
Gojira, wolf down the earth. It's not screamo, per sey, the lyrics are understandable but it leans in that direction.
I could suggest the entire Shogun album, really. But a couple that I think might work. Do note that the songs do have some screams in them, but overall they're not screamo. For that, you need Ascendency or Ember to Inferno.
Trivium, Like Calisto to a star in heaven

Re: Halloween Playlist III
Actually, whilst finding out the link for Circus Apocalypse, I stumbled across an artist I'd never heard before. So, whether or not it makes the list, I think I'd point people towards Jill Tracy and Evil Night Together for a bit more Dark Cabaret.
If nothing else, I only found it because of this thread, so might as well share and share alike.
It's slinky.

Re: Halloween Playlist III
Alright. Check out Epica then, bound to be something there you like. On my tablet right now, so no links. Sorry.
Also, I'd suggest Dark wings over Our Solemn Hour. WT does some great stuff. Their last album, The Heart of Everything, was great! (The Unforgiving album doesn't exist, such poor quality from them is a myth.)Open the lid and snatch a homebrewed treat from Cookie's Jar

Re: Halloween Playlist III
Oh, I'm familiar with Epica. Don't recall any particularly creepy songs, but now that you remind me will peruse.
I'm not really all that big a fan of Dark Wings, oddly enough.
Oh, btw, their last album is actually The Unforgiving. It's got some gems, but like all their albums its not the same style as anything else really.Last edited by Silkspinner; 2012-10-12 at 06:36 PM.

Re: Halloween Playlist III
The Residents. Duck Stab is particularly weird and creepy.
If you can stand avante garde art music, Ligeti, Penderecki, Cage, etc, might work.
The band is just fantastic, that is really what I think. Oh, by the way... which one's Pink?... I came to appreciate that mountains make poor receptacles for dreams.

Re: Halloween Playlist III
Seconding Ligetti...a personal favorite. Also, if you want some ambient, Lustmord is what you want (his collaboration with Robert Rich "Stalker" is an awesome album). And since you mentioned The Residents, "The Bunny Boy" is a very creepy album, start to finish. Not so much tonally, but subject matter/lyrical content.
Oh, and because I'm egotistical enough to self-plug, some of the Haunted House work I've done for the past few years I've made available for download until 11.04 at http://soundcloud.com/joshloughrey/sets/haunted-attic/
