Re: Thanqol Learns 2 Draw: Every Step Is The First
Wow.
If its a celestial bureaucracy, all legitimacy stems in some form from a single point. That point offing himself causes a chain reaction where everything realizes that none of the old rules apply anymore. I don't have to listen to my boss because he can't pay me because money is useless because my country's treasury rebelled because the military and police have no jurisdiction because the president doesn't have authority because the document the entire thing is based on had a CTRL/ALT/DELETE clause in it that triggered and now nothing matters.
Here's a gun! Make a new 'Murica.
lot of thoughts here.
Baseball chick, bottom left; that's not how bewb.
Stephanie/Dash racing?
Wicked angel. still rectangular but you're working it now.
Some pretty slick **** here. How are you still making crap?
Stop and rephrase: some of this is so good everything else looks mundane by comparison.
Space marine drives home how 'crap' and 'slick ****' are less different things entirely and more different ends of the completion scale.
You're doing a lot of good. Your fundamentals are coming along (except straight lines, sometimes? I dunno. I'll trust Ele And Domo on rulers) and all that's really left is polish. Fabulous.

Re: Thanqol Learns 2 Draw: Every Step Is The First
Yeah, I still produce bad pictures but almost without exception those bad pictures are done as a deliberate attempt to ram my head up against some complex visual problem and learn techniques for breaking it down enough to use.
See, this is rubbish. So is this, this and this. But those aren't four individual pieces of crap; they're all small parts of a larger effort to learn techniques for breaking into black and white textured painting, the results of which you see here.
The dingy experimental pictures I put out may be visual rubbish, but they almost always have at least one part which is good - or at least new. This is critical to my learning process, and why my work randomly has these huge jumps in quality when I go from experiments to application.
Thanks for the feedback

Re: Thanqol Learns 2 Draw: Every Step Is The First
I found this guy doing some really nice art tutorials on Youtube. You might wanna give them a shot.
He has videos on the basic line.
And two videos on the human figure.
He also has one on hands.
Also, he has a bitchin' Italian accent.

Three more steps on the Monster Manual Challenge.
Couatl: I like how this turned out.
Darkmantle: Am I the only one who gave the players a 'hat' that was actually a Darkmantle?

Re: Thanqol Learns 2 Draw: Every Step Is The First
Yeah, I'm still integrating that. I have wholly subsumed art as a rpcoess, so anything public enough to acknowledge is a measure of finished works, which is counterproductive when trying to advance through public discourse. Still in the midst of painful deconstruction.
I will go on record as saying that the end result is actually not as good as either second or third sketch thing, in my opinion. It somehow got much flatter, where the paint attempts and such for the same picture were going places.
pic 3, the wolf? Never seen it before. Must eb a phone thing. Very nice.
No, but I would not be surprised if you were the only one who A) gave someone a darkmantle as a hat, and B) still acknowledged that they are big. I mean, two feet tall, eight feet wide, 30 #? It's like using a treant as a walking stick, I mean really now.

Day 653: Tanar'ri
BAM did the entire Tanar'ri lineup in one group shot.
This was super fun for the composition and design, but I should have used a different tactic for the background/foreground elements than I did. There were no reference images in the Monster Manual so I gave them all designs of my own.

Storm took out my internet line. Access is intermittent. Guy said it was a 'miracle' I was getting internet at all.
Any time I miss a post in the next few days assume it's that.

Very very partial puddle of internet acquired but it is not on the computer with my arts so I'm not able to upload. Pictures have been done and will continue to be done and I'll upload them as a batch when my core internet is restored.

Re: Thanqol Learns 2 Draw: Every Step Is The First
Okay, the Demons are Chaotic Evil and they're all over the place, a big violent jungle where the toughest guy wins.
The Devils are Lawful Evil and they run Hell like a giant McDonalds, where it sucks to be one of the little crappy demons but by hard work, backstabbing and loyalty you can work your way up the pyramid. They're a hilarious combination of lawyers, businessmen, and monsters and I think they're ridiculous.
Also, the very largest Devil is Large - compare to the Demons picture I did a few days ago where there's a much larger height variance.

Re: Thanqol Learns 2 Draw: Every Step Is The First
Huh. I started back when they didn't think kids would actually read the books, so I get a much more terrifying vibe from them. I mean, come on. It's a skeleton with a ****ing scorpion tail!
The erinyes reminds me of Marchande.
Is that... Is that a Balor with a monocle?
That little dude in the big dude is actually the tortured soul of its most recently slain victim, being both devoured visibly and enslaved to do the devourer's bidding.

Once you look past the mishmash of monsters in their design, they're all so goofy!

Re: Thanqol Learns 2 Draw: Every Step Is The First
Day 664: Mark Of Stephanie
I haven't done any colour for a while, here's a fix for that.
Simple area shading experiment, incredibly basic. Tried an old combination of linework brushes anew. While I don't hate the finished effect I think I'm coming to the realisation that I don't like thin hard outlines at all - they require absolute precision and are time consuming and don't even seem worth it.

Aw, i like hard shadows like that. Also in part because they require precision. They're an additional tool to give something proper shape.
The white outlines are pretty interesting too. They make for a good contrast against a dark background. (And contrast is key.)Last edited by Domochevsky; 2013-03-08 at 06:55 AM.

Re: Thanqol Learns 2 Draw: Every Step Is The First
Yeah, going to follow that line of thought.
Day 665: Doppelganger
Number one search result for Doppelganger references is the evil Lara Croft clone, often making out with Lara Croft.
Anyway! Tomorrow is the DAY OF GREAT EVIL, and I've managed through remarkable timing to line that up perfectly with reaching the 'Dragons' section of the Monster Manual. So I'm going to announce my next short term challenge: DRAGON MONTH TWO!
My objective is to produce one full colour image of each of the ten Dragonflights, spread over however many days it takes.
Anyways,

Re: Thanqol Learns 2 Draw: Every Step Is The First
I quite like these; something about the curves seems very solid - good shape.
Good to see the Internet hasn't changed.
Again, I really like the shapes here. From the palette, I'm assuming there's more coloring to come, which I look forward to.This Machine Surrounds Hate And Forces It To Surrender
