    Reaver
    Conditions: Guilty, Afraid

"Really? Can't be that easy to be surprised when you're a telepa-GAH!"

Reaver almost starts out of her skin as the Abomination begins to slither through the cracks. She involuntarily leaps backwards and surveys the area as it is slowly suffused with snakes. Her (slightly trembling) hands are quickly filled with a long spiked chain courtesy of her Soul Arm.

"Watch it, Kay!" she yells, lashing out at the individual snakes as they appear and dancing away from the ever-approaching fangs, "This thing is lethal when it forms up!"

A slow feeling of panic begins to suffuse her as she darts her eyes around, hoping against hope that the cavalry would come and save her.

    "SOCKET? DYNAMIS!"

Oh god, oh god, oh god, it's everywhere . . .

    "HELP!!!!"

Thanks to Reaver's warning, Kay leapt backwards too. Her eyes darted from snake to snake, independently of one another. This was no time to worry about keeping them moving in synch. For the briefest moment, she dared to hope that the torrent was friendly. Kay didn't share humanity's prejudices about such things. There were plenty of pleasant serpentine hiveminds in the universe. But Reaver's panicked reaction begged to differ. Apparently diplomacy wasn't an option here. The young alien immediately began looking for options: Options that didn't involve fighting. If the battle-hardened mage warrior was panicking about facing this thing, then Kay didn't stand a chance against it.

"P-perhaps a retreat would be wise!"

    Reaver/Kay

The snakes hiss and snarl as they're beaten back, the "Mage Warrior" holding the line quite well and one might even argue that she's made ground. The monster has retreated to a corner of the room, attempting to form away from the lashing Soul Arm which leaves the room mostly empty of the venomous beasts. The way you came in is blocked of course but the way up is not, the dubious flight of stairs safe for the moment save for a stray serpent.

Kay's eyes flitted between the monster and the stairs. She was learning so many valuable things from this mission: Like fear. Lots of fear. She really wanted to flee for safety. But safety was less educational. Her purpose was to catalogue every aspect of human experience; Not just the safe parts. On the other hand, doing that required her to live. Obviously some careful balancing was required here. Stay and learn and maybe get hurt? Or flee and survive and maybe lose knowledge? In the end, she left that decision to Reaver. Best for the newbie to obey the expert.

    Reaver
    Conditions: Guilty, Afraid

Reaver is hyperventilating freely as she continues to swing with the chain, gradually succumbing to the panicked feeling currently keening within her.

Help help help oh god help me please . . .

    Stairs!

"LET'S GO!" she shrieks, not even trying to disguise her own mounting terror, "Kay! Run! NOW!"

Her Soul Arm warps to become a large throwing hammer, which she throws into the ceiling with all of her strength. She doesn't stick around to see if it worked, instead running up the rickety stairs as fast as her legs can take her. However, the satisfying crash from behind her does half-alleviate the immediate concerns. More broadly, though . . .

"Socket? Dynamis? We have to go! NOW!" she howls, pit growing in her stomach as the silence from her teammates continues.

It's happening again . . . a traitorous voice hisses into her very soul, It's happening again, and you could have stopped it . . .

Kay didn't need to be told twice. She immediately ran/loped/bounced/careened after Reaver. Her form shifted erratically between various modes of movement. She didn't have time to calculate the fastest method: So she just used a bit of everything. Besides, Reaver's fear made it really hard to concentrate. Or was that Kay's own fear? It was hard to tell. Kay couldn't even decipher her own state of mind. She absolutely loved this new experience; And yet desperately wanted it to end. Again with the contradictions!

    Kay, Reaver

The snakes seem to collect themselves for a few moments before the ceiling comes crashing down upon them as you make your flight. The other floors, through barricades and just sheer dilapidation, are closed off. Up and up and up the stairs go until finally the pair of you reach the top floor. On one hand it's a blessing since the answer to where Socket and Dynamis are is answered, the pair tangled up in Socket's wires. On the other you've now nowhere to run form your pursuer and your allies (and Bishop) are trapped in electrified wires. What do you do?

Kay's careening climb came to an abrupt end. She just barely avoided slamming straight into the mess ahead. Upon skidding to a halt before the wires, she was greeted by a horrible sight. Her treasured teammates were trapped in a technological tangle! But not for much longer. This horrible predicament could be solved with a bit of basic engineering: Well, basic by intergalactic standards. Kay began darting between the room's various devices. Her individual fingers morphed into tools of various sizes and shapes. She gathered components seemingly at random, like some sort of alien squirrel; Piled them into a disorganised hodgepodge; And connected it all together to form...something. Nearly any human engineer would confidently declare the 'device' to be garbage. Pressing the ostentatious red button on its top couldn't possibly do anything.

Kay pressed the button. And in that moment, the trap fell silent. All its electricity had vanished. It was just a harmless collection of wires and parts now. Kay had a lot to learn from humanity; But not from its engineers.

    "Guys! Holy s*** . . ."

Reaver is agape as Kay shorts out the electrical death trap. Dynamis and Socket are looking rough, and Bishop has seen better days . . . And Harlequin had those bombs ready to blow . . .

Black lightning sizzles along her arms, and the spell comes to her crystal-clear.

"Get in close! All of you!"

She says the spell, feeling the lightning crackle on her tongue as her Soul Arm becomes an enormous expanding bubble that suffuses her and her friends. It takes focus, it takes energy . . . but within moments, she has created a dome of impenetrable protective force around all of them.

    "Looks like . . . I can . . . block you too . . . nephew . . ." she mutters amid gritted teeth.

    Kay and Reaver

With a zap the wires fall silent and while all seems calm for a moment it is ended in a fiery plume of explosive force bubbles up around you. For a few moments everything around you is chaos but the shield holds and when the explosion is over you find yourself floating in the water that remains. True to the Harliquen's words Tonbogiri appear relatively shortly after and take you back to the city, touching up the teammates of yours they can find (there is no sign of Freedom or Wereshark) and send you on your way.

In the following weeks the Harliquen and the drug operation is halted sorely from your information. Your names, and the title of The Worst Generation, are set aside for your own self-titled group. The Seven Stars. You may all go your separate ways but this is a defining moment of your team and it will be remembered throughout the city for some time. There are a thousand stories in San Fransapporo but this one was yours.

    The End.
