Sawyer, at J14 (whatever the map says) steps out of Hightower's way and stares around, keeping eyes and ears open for the rustle of cloth, footprints appearing, leaves being disturbed, and any other signs of the Cleric's passing.

After scanning the surrounds for other active criminals, Hightower relaxes and gives his teammates a look of pride for their great work. He goes to check the slain for any suggestion of what might have caused them to attack a well-armed party. Even without Mat, they haul around some spectacularly nasty hardware.

You find the bodies of two merchants and their guards that had been dragged into the trees. It seems that the hobgoblins had been ambushing anyone who came along the path.

[Marlowe]

Sawyer grounds her scythe as the Hobgoblin Cleric dies for no apparent reason. Sawyer is used to death. Only usually she has a better idea of cause and effect. She's quite often the cause. It's a hard thing to miss.

Willing her rage to subside, she keeps looking around. At the swaying of the leaves in the wind. At the drag-marks in the ground. At the pathetic situation of the corpses. Sawyer's used to death. But previously in her life people have died for reasons. They hit the wrong girl. They played three-card-monte on the wrong corner without asking the right people for permission. They wore orange out of season. Seeing people who've been killed just for doing their jobs strikes her as annoying.

She thrusts out her scythe toward Hightower. "I will...keep watch. Strip the Hobos. Leave the...victims alone. We will...get someone from the town to...identify them. These people...will have families. Families...want revenge. Revenge...can be something people pay for."
