Re: Arena Tournament, Round 35: Chile III vs Grushnak
I've already listed it in spoilers, but if Grushnak can still see Chile from Z1, he'll fire his crossbow at Chile. The attack roll was 24 (not accounting for distance traveled, but it's within the first range increment), and the damage roll was 7.
Feel free to read the spoiler for round 6.Build a man a fire, keep him warm for a day.

Re: Arena Tournament, Round 35: Chile III vs Grushnak
@Chile:
SpoilerAs the literal wording of Law Devotion allows for possible abuse, I went ahead and checked up on it with some of our more knowledgable high refs, and with KYeudo.
The specifics of interpreting Law Devotion to work on each of your actions allows for speaking on your opponent's turn to gain a defense bonus. It's been unanimously agreed that the bonus does not apply so freely, and that action is used in a manner meaning "Turn". Thus, you are free to reallocate the bonus at the beginning of each of your turns, not actions.
(Prior to asking, yes, Kyeudo was one of the people that agreed with this interpretation.)
As the AC bonus after switching things around hasn't resulted in any misses, and the Attack bonus after switching more rapidly than once a round hasn't resulted in any hits, the decision of whether or not to get a rewind is moot. The specific ability hasn't had enough of a meaningful impact to warrant that. From this point onward, consider the Law devotion to be changeable at the beginning of your turn, rather than the beginning of any action you take.
Play continues, providing a ruling on aspects of the match not known to all players.
EDIT: Per opponent approval, Chile is authorized to view the turn spoiler for post 27. This should verify the attack roll made.Last edited by Talic; 2008-04-24 at 06:25 PM.

and that's the match. I lose. With cover, you hit my AC barely. Congrats and good luck in the rest of the round.

Re: Arena Tournament, Round 35: Chile III vs Grushnak
oh and Talic, there wouldn't have been a rewind even if the numbers had mattered because that ruling goes directly against RAW. House rules go into effect at the time they're made, never retroactively. It clearly says "at the beginning of your next ACTION" and actions are clearly defined.

High Ref KC
Grushnak is declared the winner and collects his prize
Also, Chile, I think that while it is true that houserules are not applied retroactively, I think that the intention of this rule was clear, and though I may be mistaken, I think there is some precedent for when law devotion can be changed (one of Bronz's characters, I think). Granted, it didn't effect anything, so the point is moot.Sweet Cap. America Avi by KPenguin
