Re: Heirs to the apocalypse: Headhunters!
After a brief nights rest, the small group start out again. The landscape stays the same, although the farms become more sparse, and more of the landscape in taken up by thigh-high red grass with razor sharp edges. You have to go around some fields, but the smaller ones are quickly cut down by machetes.
About midday, you see two figures on the top of a hill. One mutated bear, and one mutated human, both armed with thick spears, and dressed in a strange armour. One of them spots you, and waves.

Gerrin has seldom been away from the city and he is cautious by nature. He acknowledges the strangers but immediately begins scanning the surrounding fields for others.

Re: Heirs to the apocalypse: Headhunters!
The two strange individuals come down from the hill. Lars recognize their equipment as eehl-catching equipment. The Eehls are a dangerous land-living snakelike creature, becoming up to a feet in thickness, and often moving through the wilderness in large packs.
The elk presents himself as Zigge Smolk. "Me and my men are trying to catch up with a rather large throng of eehl," he says. "There is good money to be made if we catch up with them, and they ate a small boy from a nearby farm last day. Are you interested in helping out?"

Re: Heirs to the apocalypse: Headhunters!
Gerrin looks at the others.
"I've never hunted before but this sounds like a dangerous pack of beasts, we'd be doing the outlying communities a huge favor by killing the eehls."
Turning to the elk-man, he asks.
"How can we help?"

Marvin
They are a danger to humans?
*Marvin stresses the last word slightly, almost like he's trying to tell someone something*
Then my programming requires me to help.
Spoiler
That could be taken in multiple ways, not all of which are good. Marvin is stressing humans so that the others know if they tell him "yes" (true or not) he has to help.

Re: Heirs to the apocalypse: Headhunters!
Smolk looks at the horse. "I wouldnīt let Eehls get so close to something that expensive."
They are led over the hill and on the other side the rest of Smolks hunters await. It is about ten people in total, most armed with the strange spears that Smolk and the mutated human had. They seem happy and friendly, and talk is mostly about the culinary qualities of Eehl flesh.

Re: Heirs to the apocalypse: Headhunters!
Hey Smolk, I have a few questions. How big is this throng of Eehls. I've noticed you all have spears. Is it best to attack them from a distance?

Re: Heirs to the apocalypse: Headhunters!
The tall elk scratches his mule for a while, before answering.
"I bet they are at least twenty or so. Quite dangerous, and quite large at that. We use these spears because you often donīt want to come too close to an eehl."
He turns to Marvin.
"Well, tinman, eehls are dangerous creatures. Hunger drives them up from their subterran homes to feast on flesh. Small calves are scared by the stories their grandmothers tell them about eehls. But we know better than to be eaten by normal eehls. If it were an emperor-eehl, that would be a whole different story. Much larger, and much more dangerous."

Logically then, if you use spears because you don't want to get close....why not use a bow or crossbow? Thanks to Edwin for the Avatar!

Re: Heirs to the apocalypse: Headhunters!
If you wish for spears, they lend you the spearlike weapons.
"They come from within the earth", Smolk says. "When they are up close to you, a gun wonīt help you!"
The small party wanders on, following the tracks of lightly upturned soil. After about half an hour, he holds his hand close to the ground, and then calls. "The ground is shaking! They are coming!"
Immediately, Smolk and his men form a small circle, with the spears pointing outward. In the distance, they see the ground rumbling and smoke and dirt being tossed up in the air. They are coming...

Re: Heirs to the apocalypse: Headhunters!
The groudn erupts, and several slime-covered snakelike creatures slither out of the depths of the earth, ready to eat all flesh they find. They ar about two meters in length, with a round mouth at the end, covered in tint razor sharp teeth.
OOC: If you have a firearm, you get to shoot once when they erupt (readied action) and once more if you beat init 11. If you are carrying a spear, you get one AOO as they slither to attack you.
