By the way, notable pics/fics seection needs more work. I've already selected a suitable collection of pictures from DF threads, asking for permission where possible, but I didin't read that many fics. Can someone recommend a few good fanfictions? Maybe even GitP fanfictions for a little subsection?

I really don't want to link Mule or Cupcakes, but I honestly don't know other ones of note :(

    The Battle of Sunnydale
    Spoiler
    Show

Eclipse Sparkle, "The Duskbringer" to his foes, surveyed the Sunnydale Valley from his command tent. In the background, he could hear Purplie Pie, his Master of Engineers, babbling, as the pony was wont to do, about the ratio of sulfur to saltpeter in his newest creations. Eclipse had asked the eccentric pony to deliver him a thunderwand for every earth pony in the army, and Purplie had not disappointed.

He'd picked his terrain with the thunderwands in mind. To either side towered the Highpeak Mountains, forming an insurmountable wall, but for the Sunnydale Valley, the only pass through the Highpeaks. Any foe wishing to cross the mountain chain into Equestria would have to travel through the pass. And thus they did.

The beastpony forces moved in a slow tide down the valley, no tactics or grand strategy evident in their march. Chilling howls and half-whinnies erupted from the black mass as it flowed through the far pass and down into the Valley. His foes were monstrosities, part pony part animal, beasts from the darkest corners of the earth. They moved without formation, and no plan beyond the utter destruction of ponykind. They had to be stopped here, lest they make gain ground in Equestria proper unchecked.

As he looked on, a swarm of harpies, amalgams of the most disturbing characteristics of griffon and pegasus, erupted from the greater morass of beastponies and took to the air. He nodded to Beabold, Ambassador Militant to the Dragons, the stunningly beautiful mare bedecked in formal attire despite the occasion. "Not going to hide in your tent this time, ambassador?"

She fixed him with a disturbingly powerful glare, almost forcing Eclipse to flinch. "No, General Sparkle. I think I need to see this."

Eclipse smirked. "Very well, ambassador. But it's going to be bloody." He turned to the ambassador's companion, a juvenile dragon named Thorn who had only just grown his wings. "Signal your elders. Tell them to engage the harpies."

"Yes, sir!" responded the dragonling. As Thorn zipped out of tent and took wing, Eclipse was already addressing his Lieutenant of Pegasi, Aurora "Doolots" Dash, who had engaged in a stunning stupid conversation with Engineer Pie over some other such ridiculous application of flying machinery.

"Lieutenant Dash! Deploy your pegasi in support of the dragons. One cohort to each dragon."

"As you say, General." pipped the Pegasi and flashed out of the tent. Eclipse reminisced of the time when he could deploy the standard three cohorts to each dragon, one below and two over each wing, but the initial assaults by the beastpony army had taken a devastating toll on his legion of pegasi, reducing them to under half their initial strength. Aurora had lost her husband to one of the first harpy ambushes, but the mare was a consummate soldier. Grieving would come later.

He switched his gaze back to the advancing foe, staring intently at the shifting flow of their march. Ah, there! Cresting the opposite lip of the valley was the largest beastpony Eclipse had ever seen, a monstrous amalgamation of goat and pony, half again as tall as any pony in his force. The Warchief of the horde let loose a strangled sound, half-bleat and half-whinny, the sound somehow managing to travel down the entire length of the valley, echoing from the walls until it seemed to come from everywhere. Eclipse felt his blood chill as the chieftain fixed its malignant gaze on the pony host before it. Eclipse could feel its rheumy eyes crawling over his skin.

His bannerpony, the Sun-and-Hoof standard of Equestria flying firmly from his saddle, trotted forward to stand beside him. "Oh, but that's a right beastie, innit, General? Don't ya worry though, we'll handle 'em, just you see. You've got the finest army Equestria's ever seen, General, and no barb'rous monster is gon' ta get outta this pass." Eclipse smiled and placed a hoof on the stallion's shoulder.

"I just hope you're right, Toffee."

"Ayup," responded Toffee Apple with a grin.

His earth ponies, for their part, were arrayed in serried ranks, practically shoulder to shoulder. Each carried a saddle-mounted thunderwand, a saber, and a bayonet. He only had a large enough force to span the whole valley three ranks deep. Too few, he murmured.

As he looked on, a dozen dragons flashed overhead with a dozen dozens of pegasi in hot pursuit. The dragons bulldozed into the cloud of harpies, flames roasting hundreds of them. Wherever the stricken harpies attempted to swarm an individual dragon, its pegasi guards quickly drove them off with saber and hoof. Here and there, individual pegasi were caught and overwhelmed, torn apart in a whirling blur of harpies, with not a scrap of them reaching the ground.

On the left flank a whole cohort was cut off as the harpy broodmother launched itself out of the swarm. The enormous, corpulent, eight-armed beast shouldn't have been able to fly, but it did, and each armed reached out to grip a pegasi and tear them apart while its colossal wings battered the air. The dragon, sighting the demise of its escort, let loose a thunderous roar and charged the broodmother. Latching itself to the monstrosity, it tore at the abomination's wings with fang and claw as the broodmother responded in kind. The tangled mass of scales and feathers plummeted to the ground with bone-breaking force and neither combatant rose from the crater.

With their broodmother slain, the harpies quit the field enmasse, stray dragon-flames savaging the pitiful remnants. The dragons and pegasi retreated to rearm and nurse their wounds.

The horde on the ground had drawn close now, seemingly unconcerned with the defeat of their aerial forces. They crossed the first ditch built by Purplie's engineers, and Eclipse nodded to Arcturus Belle, his Prime Magister. The unicorn sent up a flare, and the entire ditch erupted into flame. Every Unicorn Battlemage in the army unleashed their full might onto the oncoming swarm, firestorms and lightning bolts obliterating the front ranks of the beastpony force. Elsewhere, fissures opened up to swallow beastponies whole. The ground beneath the horde turned to mud as churning hooves and the spray of blood mixed. Eclipse grinned. So far, so good.

But still the horde came on. As they closed, they prodded ferocious manticore and chimaera warbeasts to the fore, abominations born of horrendous magic gone wrong. As the brutalized front ranks of the horde crossed the final ditch, Eclipse finally raised his voice. His force was all hardened veterans. They needed no speech to know their duty. They simply needed orders.

"READY!" he shouted. The first pony in each file laid down, with the second pony kneeling while the third stood. "FIRE!"

Three thousand thunderwands spoke at once, sending their iron cargo into the massed monsters before them. The most eager beastponies at the fore were utterly annihilated. Manticores and chimaeras were torn as the bullets ripped clean through them.

"FORWARD THE CHARIOTS!" roared Eclipse. The chariot, which, unlike the thunderwand, was a time-tested pony weapon of war, consisted of a wheeled circular wooden frame with four ponies in the center, Scythes were mounted along the rim and two ponies stood on top of the frame to protect the workponies and keep them from being assailed. He only had fifty chariots left, but the brave crews nonetheless galloped forwards. It was unlikely that any of them would survive; they would be surrounded and torn apart before the pony lines advanced to save them, even if they won, which was still unsure.

"FIX BAYONETS!" The chariots crashed into the beastpony line with a sound to make Eclipse wince. At his side, Beabold broke into an open sob. The savaged horde scattered before the war machines, and the chariots carved deep furrows into the beastpony swarm, even as they were cut off from the rest of the force. Ah well, it was all up to fate now. He drew his blade. He fixed his gaze on the beastpony warchief, now in the front rank. You die, here, monster. Dawn, Twilight, I'll see one of you soon.

    "CELESTIA AND EQUESTRIA, CHARGE!"

What do you think? I dithered between making the mane and tail yellow or white. Yellow would match the crest of a penguin, but white would give the pony more of that black and white penguin coat look.

I think it looks nice as white: the colours co-ordinate better. The only other thing I'd say is the eye seems a little too small, but that's mainly a matter of personal preference.

The black penguin on the dark gray pony also adds to the difficulty seeing, it blends rather well together and will be really hard to see in a smaller version.

So today is my birthday and my boyfriend went a little pony happy for me. He got me Rainbow Dash and a Fashion Rarity as well as some pony stickers. Fashion Rarity comes with all kinds of barrettes and a little outfit.

Alright. Adjusted the size of the eyes and the angle of the horn and the staff a bit... and changed up the tail.

Okay, remember all those times I said that Trixie was the best pony?

I was wrong. Obviously Berry Ann is best pony.
The name is "tonberrian", even when it begins a sentence. It's magic, I ain't gotta 'splain why.

    I call. Pony up.

And Berry Ann doesn't get depressed. Look at that face. That's pure, unadulterated, PG-13 determination in those eyes. Berry's a pony that goes into the Everfree Forest in the middle of the night with nothing but her lantern, beats cockatrices in staring contests, and wrassles Ursa Majors for kicks.

And then Soft Serve will hug Berry Ann, give her a free drink, and make it all better.
