Re: Pokemon GITP League
I don't really see much of a problem either, other than convince. As such, if forced to decide one or the other I'll pick Gen V, because that adds move variety to moves/abilities.

Re: Pokemon GITP League
It also has such an undeveloped metagame.....way too many things run rampant there.
But yes, it's one or the other. I prefer Gen IV for right now. Gen IV and Gen V are completely seperate metagames. They CANNOT be lumped together. Gen V is an expansion of Gen IV, basically.Last edited by PKF995; 2010-11-02 at 10:15 PM.

Re: Pokemon GITP League
I don't really know how Pokemon Online goes but I feel if we do allow Gen V we should not allow any Dream World abilities. Dream World abilities are the kind of things that completely turn the Metagame on its head and rearrange any idea of a tier-list and if you're going to be restricting the challengers to 3 OU then you would have to have a pretty good idea of the tier list. For example Politoed is regularly an NU Pokemon but when it gains drizzle as its Dream World ability it would probably end up as an OU just due to how powerful that ability alone is. Blaziken is a UU Pokemon due to among other things its lower speed stat leaves it completely outclassed by Infernape, however once Blaziken has its Dream World ability of Speed Boost that problem goes away very quickly, on top of that Blaziken has the potential to be a powerful Baton Passer and giving it the Speed Boost ability is only going to strengthen that. Its pretty likely that Speed Boost will rocket Blaziken to the equivalent of an OU.
Seeing as we don't have any solid tier data and its hard to guess exactly how these abilities will affect play I think we should ban Dream World so that the challengers don't have 3 OU and 3 OU in disguise. Actually that's a pretty good case for banning all of Gen V, so I'm going to put my vote towards no Gen V but that's just my feelings on the matter.Other Avatars:

Re: Pokemon GITP League
I'm just going to be a challenger, I don't have any plans on being a leader. As for my pokemon I'll just follow the restrictions and then build a team based on mainly pokemon that I like, rather than researching good team combos.
By restricted to Gen IV do you mean only gen IV pokemon or everything from gen IV and earlier?
Once we've decided on the rules you should update the first post to include them.
EDIT: I'm sooo tempted to make a metronome themed team. Just because it's awesome.Last edited by Level8Mudcrab; 2010-11-03 at 12:36 AM.

Re: Pokemon GITP League
I agree with the no gen V vote, i prefer to wait it out till people who understand the metagame much better than i do manage to hash the dreamworld stuff out.

Re: Pokemon GITP League
i'm gonna follow a similar plan to yours being a challenger just using pokemon i like and have relied on before.
though i wouldn't do a metronome themed team if i were you, whenever one of my pokemon uses Metronome... the use explosion or selfdestruct 1/3 of the time.
but thats my nasty experience with metronome really

Re: Pokemon GITP League
Okay, so no Gen V. We will move to Gen V once a solid metagame is built up.
Just so everyone knows, I have 7 applications in right now, and I'm expecting another one or two in the near future.
I am pleased because it appears that we are not just choosing Pokemon based on their tier status, which is good in my opinion. So this won't be a super competitive tournament, which will make it easier for people to join.
Can anyone design a Trainer Card for our sigs? And I have someone who can design badges if the leader doesn't want to

Re: Pokemon GITP League
Perhaps you should throw a request over to the arts and craft area of the forum. Good odds you can find someone interested in the idea.
:EDIT: I found out how to get this onto the various pcs i use in class, so ill be on most of the day with the program in another tab if anyone wants a game. I'm looking to test my gym out more.Last edited by Dragonus45; 2010-11-03 at 08:29 AM.

Re: Pokemon GITP League
I was actually hoping that we would use Gen V specifically to reduce the impact of the metagame (making it easier for people to join as you said above), and add more creativity as opposed to tweaking the sets shown on Smogon.
Also, I think you can find sites that will autogenerate trainer cards, and then you can just tweak that image.

Re: Pokemon GITP League
Hmm... I don't know, we want to limit the overpowered-ness of everything, so I think we should play with what we know, and limit that, then play trial by fire and screw up in the future.
And the Trainer Card creators are lame...

Re: Pokemon GITP League
Yeah I'm not so much against Gen V because it makes it harder to set a team up on Smogon or best know how to rule the meta-game. I'm against Gen V because I'm worried about something turning out to be hugely overpowered and breaking the game, I think being repeatedly steamrolled purely because the other guy has better 'mons than you is very unfun and that a well researched tier list helps us prevent this. Just my two cents though.

Re: Pokemon GITP League
Yea that about sums it up for what i think. Makes me sad though since the mon i wanted to use the most, the only norml/fighting one so far happens to be gen V.

Re: Pokemon GITP League
Yeah, some Gen V are cool, but once we have metagame info, then we can add them.
I think I might call a cut off for applications Sunday at 2:00AM CST (-6GMT)((So when the clocks change )

Re: Pokemon GITP League
So is it Level 50 or Level 100? EVs need to be calculated differently for different levels, so I need to know before I can finish my team.
EDIT: I haev just found out that my theme of "serpentine", if limited to Gen IV, leaves me with 4 NU, 1 UU, and 1 Uber, cutting out seem Gen V pokemon that seem good, such as Pendoraa and possibly Jarooda (Large centipede and 3rd stage of "Smugleaf", respectively)Last edited by Qwertystop; 2010-11-03 at 03:11 PM.

Re: Pokemon GITP League
I saw that, everything I don't have on my team from that list is either:
NFE
Gyarados
Magcargo (Really? How is that serpentine?)
Milotic
Wormadam (Again, REALLY?! HOW?)
Gyarados and Milotic seem like good options, but I already have a lot of water pokemon (quite a lot of the snakes are close to eels), and that opens up a lot of weaknesses.

Re: Pokemon GITP League
Well, I just submitted my application. I hope it gets accepted....
My reasons for not wishing to use Gen 5 are pretty much the same as thetsyman's. I've played the Gen 5 meta, as I'm sure everyone knows, and I know some good sets and good Pokemon, but it's a bit too dangerous IMO to just jump in there now. It doesn't seem like many people here will just copy or "tweak" Smogon sets, we're all pretty casual here to me. I know that I sometimes make up my own unique sets when I feel it would serve me better than anything anyone else has.
EDIT: Oh by the way...ummm....our server...it doesn't seem like it's being run by ANYTHING anymore. Totally blank. I think it needs to be remade.
@keeperoflore
It could be worse. Dragons outside of 5th Gen is next to impossible since Lati, Sala, and Garch are in Ubers. At least you have more to work with using Ice-Types, they're not really THAT bad.Last edited by PKF995; 2010-11-03 at 07:27 PM.

Re: Pokemon GITP League
The only Ice Mons I actually like are Glaceon and Froslass.
It's a bit saddening that Gen V doesn't really contribute many good Ice-Types. Furijio, Baibanira, and Tsunbeaa all seem pretty bad. Baibanira is really cute though. Then there's Kyurem.Last edited by PKF995; 2010-11-03 at 07:46 PM.
