Top 10 Favorite Video Games of all time!
Welp! I'm not sure if there was one of these posted here yet, but in case it wasn't, I'm curious as to what your top ten favorite video games are! These can be console or PC, just no phone games, that's a whole nother category. New games are welcome, and old games are always preferred! So that's the question! What are your top ten favorite video games?
10. Alice: Madness Returns
9. Katamari Forever
8. Mario Kart 64
7. Mega Man 2
6. Batman Arkham Asylum
5. Warcraft 2
4. Mortal Kombat 9
3. Ghostbusters
2. Sonic 2
1. Dragon Warrior

Re: Top 10 Favorite Video Games of all time!
After some thought - I'm pleased to find, I can do this without repeating franchises. Also in no particular order:
- Elite
- Master of Orion 2
- Neverwinter Nights
- Tropico
- Morrowind
- Civilization
- Empire: Total War
- Jade Empire
- Zelda: Twilight Princess
- Chocobo Tales
(Hmm, most recent of these is 7 years old. Do I really mean that? Yes. Yes, I do.)Last edited by veti; 2016-04-27 at 11:01 PM.

Re: Top 10 Favorite Video Games of all time!
Deliberately avoiding repeating franchises:
1) DROD: Journey to Rooted Hold
2) Dominions 3
3) Metroid Prime
4) Age of Wonders 3
5) Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
6) Baiten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean
7) Spacechem
8) Battle for Wesnoth
9) Bastion
10) DROD: Tendry's Tale (this is actually a fairly different spinoff, not a repeat of the franchise)
If franchises are repeated, this gets moved a bit. Two more DROD games show up, three more Fire Emblem games show up, etc. The list is also not particularly stable; while the top two aren't likely to vary on a day to day basis the rest can get pushed around a bit, and several things not on the list can make appearances. There's good old Starcraft, for instance. There's the Legend of Zelda games. There's Spelunky. The actual position the rest of them land on also has a lot of room to vary by mood.
EDIT: A few people mentioned Riven and Myst later. While not currently top 10, they've been there before. Good stuff.Last edited by Knaight; 2016-04-29 at 06:47 AM.
I would really like to see a game made by Obryn, Kurald Galain, and Knaight from these forums.

Re: Top 10 Favorite Video Games of all time!
Huh. I've not really thought about this before, but I'll give it a go. I've not had that much experience with games, so my tastes are probably a little eccentric.
10) The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks
9) Mario Kart: Double Dash
8) Super Smash Brothers Brawl
7) Mega Man: Star Force 3
6) Super Mario Galaxy
5) Civilization III
4) New Super Mario Bros
3) Pokémon Emerald
2) Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
1) Portal 2.The stars predict tomorrow you'll wake up, do a bunch of stuff, and then go back to sleep.~ That's your horoscope for today.

Re: Top 10 Favorite Video Games of all time!
10. Etrian Odyssey 4
9. Rune Factory 4
8. Dark Souls
7. Chrono Trigger
6. Megaman Battle Network 6
5. Shovel Knight
4. Cave Story
3. Sly 2: Band of Thieves
2. Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
1. Katawa Shoujo
This is just a quick list, Super Metroid and Megaman X might have a place on it, but I went with Etrian Odyssey and Rune Factory 4 instead. I haven't finished any of those four.
As expected, everything on the list is an RPG or platformer considered pretty much equal in my eyes, except Katawa Shoujo, which is way outside the bounds of everything else.Last edited by Hiro Protagonest; 2016-05-07 at 09:59 PM.

My favourites are listed below, in no particular order:
GTA: San Andreas
Fallout: New Vegas
Skyrim
Mass Effect 1
Dishonored
Thief 2
X3: Terran Conflict
TIE Fighter
Freespace 2
System Shock 2
Thought I was going to struggle to think of 10, but I managed it quite easily in the end! Note that there are other games from the same series as some of those above which I would include (Fallout 2 and Thief: The Dark Project, for instance) but I decided to only pick one from each.

In no particular order:
Dark Souls
Super Mario World
Legend of Zelda A link to the past
Terraria
Arkham Asylum
Legacy of Kain: Defiance (although LOK is by far my favorite franchise, and I was tempted to put every game on the list. Yes, even Blood Omen 2)
Team Fortress 2
Minecraft
Xenogears
One finger Death Punch
Most games, I play once then I'm done. These I find myself playing over and over again

Re: Top 10 Favorite Video Games of all time!
Hmm.
First four, in no particular order:
Riven
Morrowind
Alpha Centauri
Planescape: Torment
The rest is a bit more open, but there's some nominations:
Miasmata
Ocarina of Time
Star Control II
Portal 2
Europa Universalis IV (purely by time played, it's probably more than the rest combined)
And then... I'm out of ideas.Resident Vancian Apologist

Re: Top 10 Favorite Video Games of all time!
Favourite game of all time
Baldur's Gate (well just the whole series really)
Everything else I list is in no order, more just what comes to mind as games I really really liked.
Saints Row 2
Oblivion
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Final Fantasy XI (yes it's a mmo, but it's still a game and I love it's story/stories)
Ragnarok Online (another mmo, this is nostalgia more than anything)
Ark: Survival Evolved
Pokemon Emerald
Harvest Moon: Animal Parade
Mass Effect (just the whole series)
I feel like Im forgetting some really obvious older games I love, and most of these are just based on nostalgia when I had a lot of fun playing them like Harvest Moon when I was stuck in doors thanks to flooding and I didnt have to work or feel guilty about playing a game all day.

As before, in no particular order:
Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn
UFO: Enemy Unknown
Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Mass Effect 2
Fallout: New Vegas
Red Dead Redemption
Final Fantasy VII
Secret of Mana 2
Dungeon Keeper 2
Pokemon Gold
I am, perhaps, showing my age with such a list, as nearly all of them were bought on launch. I'm pretty sure I still have the UFO CD-Rom lying about the place somewhere; circa 1993~ CAUTION: May Contain Weasels ~

Re: Top 10 Favorite Video Games of all time!
Being between generations, I have a strange assortment to hand.
Here are a few in no real order:
- Mystic quest aka Final fantasy adventure
- Little big planet
- LoZ, Links awakening
- Pokémon mystery dungeon (any except GTF)
- Crusader kings 2
- Gladius
- Tony Hawk Underground
- and Kirby
Kudos to those who remember Mystic Quest or Gladius, both of which no one has ever heard of.
Mystic quest also gets a mention for the hardest puzzle in a game I have seen. It took me 10 years to figure it out. Why yes, I did play a Gameboy game for that long; it was that good.
Honourable mentions go to Deus Ex, pro skater 3, Spartan total warrior and Metroid 2.Last edited by Tentreto; 2016-04-29 at 05:58 AM.

Re: Top 10 Favorite Video Games of all time!
I can't order them, but I'd have to say:
Dwarf Fortress
Fallout 2
Uncharted Waters: New Horizons
Secret of Mana
River City Ransom
Master of Magic
Final Fantasy 6
Gemstone: DragonRealms (a MUD, but still a video game IMO)
Suikoden III
Starcraft
In the US the game called "Final Fantasy Adventure" was the first of the Seiken Densetsu series (of which "Secret of Mana" was the second.) The US has Final Fantasy Mysic Quest. It was a much... different, and IMO far worse game that was on the SNES. So your comment confused me until Wikipedia came to the rescue.

Barkley, Shut Up and Jam: Gaiden
Super Paper Mario
Cave Story
Ultima V: Warriors of Destiny
Eternal Senia
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
Battlezone 1998 (just slightly edging out over Battlezone II)
Elder Scrolls V:Skyrim (same as ^ with Daggerfall)
Mabinogi
Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead would have gotten on here a while ago, but the development went in a way I didn't like.

In this precise order (currently, of course. This list WILL evolve):
1# Fallout 2
2# Baldur's Gate I & II
3# Hearthstone
4# Civilization III, IV & V
5# Endless Space
6# Diablo 2
7# Quake
8# Starcraft
9# ADOM
10# Rocket League
The criteria used to assemply this list: How much fun I've had with a game, in the long run.Well that was awkward.

I'm really glad to see some of my favorite games on other lists. Like others, in no true particular order
Xenogears
Xenoblade Chronicles X
Xenoblade
Metal Gear Solid IV
Final Fantasy VII
Chrono Trigger
Diablo II
Baldur's Gate II
Suikoden II
Star Control II
Honorable mention
Final Fantasy: Lightning Returns (huge negative response from the public, but I had a lot of fun)
Dragon's Dogma (loved the gameplay, plot was kind of janky)

Man, so many games to choose from! Here's my initial pass:
- Alpha Centauri
- Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
- Baldur's Gate II
- X-Wing Alliance
- Knights of the Old Republic II
- Grim Fandango
- Final Fantasy VI
- Hitman: Blood Money
- Sonic 3 & Knuckles
- Street Fighter Alpha 3
I then had enough honourable mentions left over to make a full second list:
- Planescape: Torment
- Thief 2: The Metal Age
- Rome: Total War
- Age of Mythology
- Deus Ex
- UFO: Enemy Unknown
- Fallout
- Tomb Raider 3
- Mass Effect 2
- Super Mario Bros 3
And even then, I've left out series like Half-Life, Portal, Guilty Gear and The Witcher. Basically, I like games.Allergy advice: posts may contain traces of sarcasm

Re: Top 10 Favorite Video Games of all time!
So instead of plain old 1-10 numbering, I guess I will
make a clickbait listgive some cathegories. So this is roughly my top 10 (with lots of honorable mentions I was thinking over) but I wanted to write something about each one of them and diversify. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to give a strict top 10 with judging "this one is better than that one". And I'm trying to not put in more than one game from each franchise.
Spoiler: The One I Replay The Most / Best SandboxHitman: Contracts. I have the most videos on my channel from that game. It's not, objectively, the best Hitman, but it just so happens to be my favourite, with its thick atmosphere, solid level design, improvements on the previous game which is already pretty good, and the fact that I played it for years now, since childhood, and still find cool stuff in it. I guess I could humblebrag on how I'm one of the best players of that game, though given the fair niche (Blood Money remains the king) it's not that much. The whole series could land here, but I want to make a nomination for this game in particular. Hitman shaped me up so much that I was exclusively a Spy main when playing TF2, which some ChHa members might remember.
Spoiler: The Best Online GameStarcraft: Brood War. Hands down. The most exciting thing to watch, the best hype, the best commentators, and also the best, most engaging gameplay. Happens to also have a great storyline and thrilling campaign that I find the game worth replaying for all the time. I played quite a fair bit of LoL and TF2, but BW is just the best. I don't like SC2 that much, though WoL campaign was really good, gameplay-wise.
Spoiler: The Best RPG
It will be a Fallout game. And it was a toss-up between FO1, FO2 and NV, but FO2 wins because I have the most fun playing different builds in that game. It has some silly content and the changes to lore since FO1 trigger some grognards, but FO2 is just so much fun to play. FO1 has a more consistent, tightly-packed world, but not nearly as much fun to experiment with. NV is great, but held back by Bethesda's engine. FO2 shaped up my expectations of a great RPG. FO3 and FO4 are, well, uh, you know, your brand of fun.
Spoiler: The One That Made Me Reconsider Japanese Gaming
Valkyria Chronicles. I thought that the best turn-based RPGs and games are western-exclusive and, while enjoying jRPGs, I thought their style was not nearly as deep in terms of gameplay. But VC changed that because it's a really good, Japanese X-Com-style with unique gameplay mechanics and substance, really cool personalities all around, a fairly gripping, politics-lite story, and a really, really good art-style. It's accessible enough that I recommended a lot of my otherwise not-so-inclined towards strategies friends, and they loved it.
Spoiler: The One That Shaped Up Everyone's Childhood In My Country
Everyone and their mom in Poland played Heroes of Might & Magic 3. It's the best in the series, it's addictive as hell, it's still the only game I have the patience to play hot seat and finish, it has a great online still, it has new stuff coming over like the Cove town, it has a great storyline, it ties up to the M&M games which are also kickass, and there's a ton of great single player maps that really challenge you and/or tell a great story.
Spoiler: The Best 4X
I like 4X games a lot, Master of Orion, Civ2, and Eldariel got me trying out Master of Magic, but my favourite remains Civilization IV. Well presented, refined mechanics from previous games, and it's tons of fun. The expansion pack added cool stuff and some meh stuff, but I can customize that very intricately so what do I care? It's awesome. And it's moddable.
Spoiler: The Best Indie Game
Heroine's Quest: Herald of Ragnarok. I really like point'n'click adventures and this game is just beautiful. It's like Quest for Glory on steroids, or at least - a very good sequel. The pixel art is one of the few cases where it doesn't feel out of place in the current year, and the game is just well designed and great. Comes from a very passionate studio that is also making some very diverse games, including Leylines, a Master of Magic-inspired game.
Spoiler: The Best Party Based Fun
Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn. Just a great game. I could keep on replaying it with different party compositions all the time. It has fun combat and a good storyline carried by amazing voice acting. It might not be a super-great-deep RPG with tons of choices and consequences and whatnot, but it's fun for just customizing your party and going to town on a plethora of epic quests and banter.
Spoiler: The Best Hack'n'slash
Original Diablo. I played it a ton and it's the only game of its type where I was into the PvP. It's simple and barebones, but it gets pretty deep, and I'm always impressed by people who play it Iron Man. I really like playing Warrior for the challenge. It has amazing atmosphere and has the least of the "race for loot" appeal of the sequels (of which I really like Diablo 2, but still, D1 has that charm).
Spoiler: The One Where You Stick With The Prod. Prod With The Prod. But Sometimes You Have To Make A Silent Takedown. A Non-Lethal Takedown Is Always The Most Silent Way To Eliminate Manderley.Deus Ex.
I like replayability, I guess, and I mostly play on the PC.
Honorable Mentions Because They Made A List Of Their Own:
- Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain
- Thief: The Dark Project
- Doom
- Duke Nukem 3D
- Serious Sam: The Second Encounter
- Final Fantasy 4
- Might & Magic 3: Isles of Terra
- Gothic (have yet to play part II)
- Ancient Domains of Mystery (great game, but honestly, f--- it)
- Unreal Tournament '99

World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King
Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos
Diablo II: Lord of Destruction
Stronghold: Crusader
Rise of Nations
Empire Earth II: Age of Conquest
Zeus Master of Olympus
Pokemon Emerald
Pokemon Platinum
Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
Kingdom of Loathing is more of a browser game playable on a PC, so I guess it doesn't count although it's easily my top 1.
Wow, that's more or less a late 90's to early 00's list!

Re: Top 10 Favorite Video Games of all time!
Hmm, in no particular order, depending on my mood:
Mass Effect trilogy: each has problems, but taken together they're still quite good.
Starcraft, Starcraft: Brood War: my first real video game, still one of the best RTSes ever made. SC2 is good, but I was far less engrossed in the story and some of the race changes are puzzling. I just wish I was better at it.
Rome: Total War: How to run an empire 101. I loved this game, still need to get the sequel sometime. I also like Medieval: Total War, but I think Rome edged it out.
XCOM 2: Ignoring the crap ton of bugs it was great. Also love the moding community for it.
Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask: Love this game, bunch of fun puzzles and dark depressing imagery. I played it before Ocarina of Time.
Arkham series: Quite a fun combo of beat em up, and the few times they try to add in a detective it's fun I wish they did more with that.
Super Smash Brothers series: The most fun fighting game I've ever played. Who doesn't want to play as Ganondorf and punch Kirby in the face?
Left 4 Dead series: Probably not great games, but sometimes you just want to murder a bunch of human-shaped mooks. The most fun I had in a shooter, and I think it strikes the right balance between being an unstoppable monster of destruction and points where you are absolutely worried that you'll live the next 3 seconds.
Dark Souls series: I love medieval weaponry, and if you ignore the magic it does that pretty well. I only played 2 of the 4 games though, I'll have to get that last one when I have the time.
Eternal Darkness: One of the most interesting and intense video games I've ever played, that had this right mix of horror and accomplishment.

Re: Top 10 Favorite Video Games of all time!
Well, let's see here...
1) Persona 3 and 4. Tie between my two favorite games of all time.
2) Tales of Vesperia and Tales of the Abyss. Again, tie between my two favorites of that series.
3) The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Because of course that's going to be on here somewhere.
4) Bayonetta 2. Best action game ever.
5) Banjo-Kazooie. Best 3D platformer. Almost want to include its sequel, but I'm doing enough other ties, and I can't deny the first is more memorable and the one I played a lot more.
6) The BlazBlue series and Marvel vs Capcom 3. My favorite fighting games. If only their netcode was better .
7) Mass Effect 2/3 and Dragon Age 2. Because as much as they seem to be moving away from what I like, I do still like Bioware's past work.
8) Hearthstone. Because any game that can keep my playing somewhat consistently for two and a half years should probably be on this list.
9) Sonic 3 & Knuckles. A classic favorite.
