I've come to the conclusion that maths book examples are pure rubbish for every problem above the first simple ones, and that half of the time, they won't even explain anything on how to solve the most advanced ones they present in the same chapter. This is indeed exaggeration, but sometimes it feels like this. Good thing I have a awesome head for mathematics...

We were supposed to figure out the odds of the children having the disease, and then the grand kids, and whatever.

I'm generally really good at math too. I'm not doing perfect, but taking a 12-grade math class as a freshman isn't anything to cry about. It just alternates between ridiculously easy and really difficult. Currently, the class just happens to be in a difficult phase for me right now.

I'm no long distance runner, really. I probably could become one - I've got the body for it - but I'm terribly lazy in the sense that I have a hard time activating myself, and therefore get little training above fast biking and running in stairs. I did orienteering up to a year ago, but it's a bit too competition oriented (no pun intended) and I don't feel like keeping up (still no pun intended) now that I should have to do it with the elite.

I also lacks something that drives me into keeping running. "Next tree, next lamp post, next rock, next pointless crack in the road..." only keeps me going that far when it's getting tough, so I'll slip into walking, which I shouldn't.

I know that I'm one of the fastest in my class at 100 m (which doesn't really say much ), where I've made it in 12 seconds blank (average speed of 30 km/h says inner math nerd). Not awsome, but still. I've got no idea in what time I can make longer runs. It was too long ago I timed myself to remember.

I'm scrawny myself 5 foot 7 inches (about 1.7 m) and ranging from underweight to right smack dab in the athletic/healthy zone (overweight if you don't exercise, where you should be if you do).

Converts to mph, almost 20 mph which is pretty good if you could keep that up. I have trouble going 10 mph, but I've never been a sprinter and never timed anything less than ~1/2 mile. I've done 15 mph (24 km/h) on a treadmill for a little bit but I couldn't do that off of a treadmill unless my life depended on it.

Basically, since I've got too many ideas going nowhere, I thought I'd start a thread asking people to vote on certain aspects of a setting (like genre and sub-genre, for example), so I'd be less distracted by other possibilities knowing this is THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE!. However, I need a witty title and content for the thread to work.

So, any ideas?

I still don't get this. If your abbreviating mathematics, you dont shouldn't take the "s" from the back of the word.

In British English, 'maths' is the ordinary abbreviation. I have no idea why.

Well, the way I understand it is you're still pluralizing mathematics, just shortening the word. Because it's not one math, I guess? Like, you wouldn't say you're taking a mathematic class, which is why the s stays on in England? That's just a guess.
