The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
Welcome to The Stick Awards II: Second Edition!
The Stick Awards are handed out to the best strips of all time as chosen by our fellow Playgrounders.
This week we are covering the comic strips 351 through 360.
For full details about the Stick Awards, please check out the main thread here.
To read more about the original Stick Awards, created by Nazzo, the 102nd, please read his thread here.
To vote in this thread, simply state which comic of the ten listed is your favorite. Bolding the number of the comic (Like this) helps it stand out.
Voting for this week will close on March 18th, 4pm EDT. Any votes made after that will NOT count toward the totals.
Last week, :durkon: 344 A Walk in the Park faced its greatest enemy yet with about as much quiet, dignity, and grace as one might imagine it would in such a situation.
Now that the battle is joined and the pieces are moving on the board, it is time to see which one of the following is indeed worthy of winning.....

Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
You turn 360 degrees and walk away.
RIP Chief. Is that the first real dramatic death in the series? Aside from Fruit Pie and Milk Dudes, of course.
-
Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
357
Well, in a bunch of good strips where no one prevails, I just vote for my favourite PC.
-
Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
Yet again another chance for me to throw away my perfectly fine vote with voting for the CPPD :smallsigh:: 360 - Hail to the Chief it is.
Otherwise other solid contenders are imo 355 (Roy's reaction to Sabine's seduction is just epic), 357 (go Belkar!) and the Weather Control strips 352/353 (on which I'm kinda unsure which I like better, both are just great and work nicely together)

Samantha and her Dad were, IMO.
EDIT: Trigak! He had a name, and even swore revenge on the Order. Not to mention the dramatic musical cue! :smalltongue:
I vote 352, for Julia making a fool of herself and the art on the second page.

Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
Lots of strips I enjoyed here. There's #360, #358, #357, but in the end I cast my vote for #353!
-
Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
Cast my vote for one of my favorite moments in the series, in #352.
-
Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
Very good batch. I'll go with
352
just because it's so awesome.
-
Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
Yeah, 352 is a fabulously awesome strip, especially as it contains one of Durkon's rare moments of epicness. But I think I'm going to go with 360: Hail to the Chief. Aside from the affecting death, "did someone apply the half-moron template to your base creature" might be the best insult in the history of the strip.
-
Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
I have to go for #357; the simple solution.
-
Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
357. It does have some competition tho.
-
Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
353. I know that some folks will prefer 352 for the special effects, but c'mon -- what's more amazing than all that wind and light is that by 353, Durkon has impressed Julia so much that he scolds her about proper conduct and gets a Yes, sir.

Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
359. Superhero jokes, Leeky Windstaff, and one of the best Durkon moments.
-
Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
355, just because Roy had more self control than I probably would have.
Also, are you getting a lot less votes now that the comic is on Hiatus, or not?

Getting a very slight uptick, actually. Lost a buncha voters during the 100-200 range, though. Not sure if it is down to overall board traffic going down at the time, or because of people getting slightly bored with the concept.
IF we get thread polling back, I am looking hopeful for a noticeable rise in votes.

Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
As much as I love the comedy of 351's obscure callback to 346 (Leeky's hawk being named "Kitty" leads to Haley's "Here, Kitty kitty kitty"...which is normally meant for cats and not hawks), it just can't pull the whole strip by itself.
So I have to go with 357 and Belkar's creative problem solving.

Yeah, I'm kinda a bit sad that not that many people are chipping in :smallfrown:. At least thanks for continuing on the quest you started here .
[And to be honest, while posts should rise the number of votes, I'm not sure if it is a good thing, because it could also lead to a further decline in posts. Whether that would be good or bad is everyone's own opinion.]

More votes leads to better repesentation of the fanbase, IMO. I can tell you that if they had been available at the beginning, I would have gone for them like a shot. I even considered going off-site for poilling, but it was just too much bother.
As for less posts? Probably not, IMO. The Original Stick Awards, still had plenty of discussion in it when it had polls. After all, people like talking about why they vote for things. Or express incredulity at the vote totals they disagree with when they wander by. :smalltongue:

Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
I was going to vote for 352, because it's epic.
But then I saw 357... a brilliant improvisation, while running for his life. So 357

Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
Gonna have to vote for #360. The Chief was the best thing about this whole arc, in my opinion.
-
Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
I think polls help because you have a general idea of where everyone stands. Now, unless you want to count every vote, you have no idea which strip is winning. With a poll, it's a lot more fun seeing how the votes change over the week.
-
Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
It's a tough one, but I'm going to go with 354.
A classic game and a giant dwarf in one page.
-
Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
352
Durkon doesn't have that many awesome moments in the comic, but 352 is one of his finest.
A close runner up would be 353, with the Planetar trying to have Thor actually read the description of the Control Weather spell, like a good Rules Lawyer. :smalltongue:
-
Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
This is slightly less amazing batch than the last one. I remember Chief's death felt really shocking, so #360 takes it.
-
Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
Tough choice again, I'll go for 353.
-

Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
352 was pretty great overall.

Re: The Stick Awards II: Second Edition (#0351 - #0360)
Whoops. Got busy elsewhere on the net. Sorry for the slight delay. Anyway, close battle this time, which means I can't vote for 357 or 360, as it will create a tie. That's fine. Because I'd rather vote for the fury of 359 anyway. :smalltongue: Love the shout out to a certain obscure superhero.
And with that....
VOTING IS NOW CLOSED!
:durkon: 352 The Turnaround is the winner this week. It now moves on to the Best of the Hundred tournament.
