Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status - The Books Have Arrived!
This is certainly long overdue, but here's some updated info
for the Dragon Tales and OOTS games pre-orders from Ookoodook.
SNIPS, SNAILS and DRAGON TALES
==============================
After contacting the printer, I have been informed that due to
complications during production, Snips, Snails, and Dragon Tales
will not be shipped out until sometime in July. The printer is
sending a new set of proofs next week and if everything is
separated correctly, printing should proceed quickly thereafter.
Rich and I thank you for your patience and understanding.
OOTS SHORTENING EXPANSION and DELUXE EDITION GAMES
==================================================
The printer informed me just hours ago that the games would
arrive in the U.S. on the first week of August. That means it
will be close to the 3rd week of August before they get to our
warehouse in Houston. We apologize for the delay. Part of the
problem was that the final cards didn't get to the printer on
schedule, and part was that the printer didn't include the
expansion cards as part of the Deluxe Edition game.
PRODUCT AT GEN CON
==================
My plan is to get a couple pallets of games sent ahead of the
rest of the shipment so that I can have them for Gen Con. I'll
also bring a list of folks that pre-ordered the games, so if
you're at the con, I can give you the game there instead of
shipping it to you. Sorry, no postage refunds - I'm paying
considerably extra to get the games expedited.
Folks that pre-ordered the book should hopefully already have
it before Gen Con, but we'll of course bring them to the show.
CHANGING YOUR ADDRESS
=====================
If you're moving, feel free to email us at [email protected].
We'll update the address in your order before it ships.
WHEN YOUR ORDER SHIPS
=====================
You will get an email with a USPS.com tracking number when your
order ships.
FUTURE UPDATES
==============
Please see the Ookoodook home page for any changes in status.
I'll also post updates to the GiantITP forum here.

Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
As an official announcement, I've stickied this post.
I'm inclined to leave it open for now, but we don't have the manpower to monitor this thread 24/7 and excise problem posts, so if it starts getting into rules violations, we'll have to lock it.
-
Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
Thank you for taking the time to post this. I appreciate it alot!

Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
Communication! I like it.
-
Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
Many thanks for the update. It's nice to know what the situation is. I look forward to getting my order in due course.
Cheers.
-
Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
Thank you for this update. Overdue information is infinately better than no information!
-
Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
Thank you for the update and making this a sticky. It will help. It may also be helpful to take down the news item on the main page about the book being ready in june as its old outdated info.
-
Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
Many thanks for the update. I know that you have been hammered by well-intentioned but emotionally-charged posts over the last few days, and I'm sure that isn't easy to deal with on top of your other duties relating to these printing projects. I as well as others very much appreciate the information on estimated shipping dates.
I look forward to enjoying the book and the game expansion (contraction?) in due time!
-
Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
Thank you for the update. Looking forward to reading the book- I've been curious about the magazine strips for a long time.
-
Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
Communication -- 'tis a wunnerful thing, innit? And it takes less time than a sending spell... :smallwink:
The update is much appreciated. The delay isn't, of course, but what are ya gonna do? Stuff happens... :smallsigh:
Cheers, JohnH / Wanda

Oh. The other part was that the printer didn't add any of the extra 150+ cards into the Deluxe edition of the game so they needed to unpack all the games and add them, which set things back.

Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
I wanted to get a bulk email out last night, but the service I use, Campaign Monitor, was down. That email has the same contents as my original post in this thread, though, so if you've read this, you're not missing anything.

Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
Aweome. Please keep this new and brilliant strategy up, I'd be much appreciated.

It'd like to answer "Not by everyone around here", but I fear that'd cause more headaches for everyone again. :smallwink:

thanks for the update. i was getting worried

Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
As one of the fervent posters in some other threads (while not breaking rules, mind you ) I thoroughly appreciate the update and it being a sticky.
Good karma in my birthday FTW !!
(Already found a new cellphone and 100$):smallbiggrin:

Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
Ouch, that's terrible about the delay.
Still, appreciate getting some word on what's going on!
-
Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
I, also, thank you for the official update/heads up.
May I respectfully recommend to those with the authority to do so that this be added as a "news item" as well, pointed back here, for the benefit of those who do not regularly visit the forums?
-
Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
Thanks so much for the update! Just got it in my e-mail and am glad to know what's going on. I appreciate the communication!
-
Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
I also just got the email update. Thanks, APE Gamer, for the information. I'm really looking forward to receiving my book.
-
Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
I appreciate the information, too. That being said, I will probably not pre-order in the future so I don't get my hopes up/plan to give as a gift. Thank you for the heads-up.
-
Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
Was about to post that people should grow up and not bitch about the delay (I may still need too).
I am looking forward to the book, which I am convinced will be awesome, and the game, which I hope will be equally good:)
Pity about the delay, but it's a small thing. We should be glad the best comic on the web is still going strong! (soon 800 strips!:smallcool:)
-
Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
Thanks for the update.
I am looking forward to Gencon now so I can get a copy of the deluxe game.
Time to re-allocate funds.
And now the time to ask for a plushie of Banjo, God of Puppets. Or put him on a hat.
-
Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
Thank you for the update. I understand that things don't always go as planned, and I know that you are doing your best to get the book and the games ready and out to the customers. The delays certainly aren't fun for you.
Hmm. If the book ships sometime in July, I hope my brother dearest will check my email account (which I only have access to at home) for the tracking number during the week I'm out of town. I'll have to remember asking him. (If the book is already on its way before I leave it's no problem because brother dearest will be able to accept my parcel. It's times like these that make me happy to have a brother :smalltongue:)

Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
Just though to mention that I don't mind it being late. Too bad for all you guys that you have these problems to solve and that it costs more money but you can send mine last, as long as I get it

I don't think anyone *is* bitching about the delay...it was lack of communication that was the main complaint, and this thread neatly solves that issue!

If we ordered both at the same time, under the impression they would ship around the same time, :smallfrown:will we have to wait until august to get the book?

I actually emailed Ookoodook about that a few days ago, and Kevin wrote back and told me that I could pay extra shipping and get them separately. I didn't quite follow his instructions on how to separate them, so I've emailed him asking for clarification, but I know it's possible.
-
Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
I just wanted to echo my thanks for the status update. This is very important - please keep the communication coming!
Consider updating your first post in this thread once a week or so - that would help a lot. Even if it's just "No news in the past week; our expectations are the same today as they were a week ago."
It means a great deal to your customers, as I'm sure you can see.
-
Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
I've just read the email and as much as it saddens me to learn of yet another delay, it's very nice to be informed.

Oh, I've been getting USPS emails for a couple of months now. They usually ask me to click on some website to confirm my order. The orders they think I have can be... interesting...
I don't believe I've EVER had a real email from USPS (as until now, the couriers have never had my email address), and so they go straight to me spam folder and have been getting deleted without opening. How do you tell the difference?

It'll be sent from Ookoodook, not USPS, since they're the ones with your email address/order details. You take the tracking number in the email and enter it in the USPS website to get the tracking information (the email may have a link to automatically do this).

It will come from Ookookdook, not the USPS. USPS is the United States Postal Service, they don't ask anyone to confirm an order ever. You're seeing fishing attempts, not legitimate emails.
You would simply receive a tracking number to enter on the post office site, and it would come from Ookookdook, not the USPS. There is no reason to confirm your order, you did that when you first placed it.

Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
I should point out that unless things have changed in the past couple of years, USPS tracking numbers really don't give you much info outside of "Yep, it's left" and "Yep, it's arrived," unless you decide to pay through the nose for quicker services.
UPS and FedEx give a lot more info when it comes to tracking, though.

USPS tracking is fine, and it costs maybe a $1 to tack on. Tracking is automatically included on a lot of USPS shipping methods. I've never had two or three day shipping arrive on time with UPS. It's always a day or two late.

Awesome. Im so glad we finally have some news! Much appreciated.

The USPS tracking has changed, but as of a year ago it was still not terribly useful. For example, they don't track what address it was delivered to. In the case of the package I was looking for - not from ookoodook - going to two different post offices eventually got me to a helpful woman who figured out that it had been delivered on a route that doesn't come anywhere near my house. However, they still didn't know what address it had been misdelivered to, so it was permanently lost. The seller absorbed the $150 loss, which was nice for me, but must have been a pain for her.
UPS and FedEx tracking are considerably better, and in my experience they are a lot prompter and more reliable about delivery as well. They can be more expensive, though.

Well, that's true.
But a couple of years ago all it showed was "Ok, it shipped" or "It arrived" and it now will say "Its in Hot Springs AR as of 7:15 this morning!" which is considerably more helpful :)

Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
I don't want to get peoples' expectations up that they'll be able to keep hitting F5 in their browser and watch a little USPS truck move across the map realtime from Houston to their house.
There's a big difference between tracking of priority envelopes (which most book orders will use) and boxes. Unfortunately box tracking is much better.
I would anticipate that most people will have their orders for a couple days before USPS tracking ever changes from Picked Up to Delivered.
The tracking number will be more useful for international customers. They should at least see when their order clears customs.
On the plus side, the new USPS envelopes are padded, so your order should have a pretty comfortable journey.

Thanks for the comments. We very much appreciate feeling that we are being kept updated and though about! :smallcool:

Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
Also, you can follow Ookoodook on Twitter to get updates that wouldn't normally be thought of as important enough to post on Ookoodook news page.
-
Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
Thanks for the clarification on USPS, everyone. I worked in a UPS store about five years ago, then I left the country for two years. Kinda been out of the loop.

I don't know why I'm finding that sentence so funny.

Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
A question if I may.
I have pre-ordered the book but I have not gotten any emails recently, especially one that has the code to enable me to check the shipping status.
Should I be concerned regarding whether Ookoodook have sent a book to my particular destination? Or is there any way to ask for an email if I provide my order number on my receipt or something to that nature?
Just having a tinge of paranoia that I may have been forgotten or my order misplace amid all the confusion.

None of the orders have been shipped yet, so no, no need to be worried about something like that.

Can we get some sort of official posting to this thread on the subject? I also would not like to wait until August to get my book if a little extra shipping will separate the two orders.

Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
Just an update, I posted a new News post regarding the book. Unless something comes up that I'm not expecting, it should be hitting the presses Tuesday. Obviously, it will then take some time to run a few thousand copies, bind them, let the binding glue dry, and then ship them out to Ookoodook's warehouse, but there's really no way to speed that part up. If there are any changes, I will endeavor to let you know.
Thanks to Kevin for posting this thread to keep you guys updated when I couldn't.

So when should we expect themto ship out of the states? Early Aug?

I hesitate to put an exact date on it due to my previous miscalculation, but that would be a very upsetting delay. Given that I use a US printer partly to avoid long waits once the books are actually printed, I would hope they would be in everyone's hands long before that.

Well, the glue should dry a little bit more easily if the books are stored in a place with good airflow and low humidity. But that's skipping the obvious thing to do...
:elan: "Dry, dry, dry the glue..."
:smallwink: Great to see things in action, looking forward to the book.

Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
Good to get this update. Lets just hope that it doesn't take TOO long. Already had to change the shipping address once... and I'm gonna have a different address come early August. I'd hate to have to inconvenience Ookoodook by requesting a change again.
-
Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
I prefer USPS to get stuff from overseas as neither UPS or FedEx deliver to PO Boxes.
-
Re: Dragon Tales and OOTS Game Status
I am perhaps one of the biggest fans of the comic and have all the paperbacks and most of the Dragon issues which had the comics from this paperback already. I think i started reading at comic 3. So I'm a huge fan. I am not upset about the delay, stuff happens.
What is irking me a bit is that while I preordered to help guage costs and help Rick with effectively maximizing profit with this book, due to geographic inconveniences I'll be waiting for mine in the mail while people who DIDNT take steps and be courteous by preorder will get this book at Gencon before me. I dont think its fair that anyone can walk up to the counter and purchase this will fans who are trying to be supportive get screwed.
The book was supposed to ship in June now a preorder of it is going to be send ahead of time for distribution at Gencon.. huge slap in the face.
So last time I will preorder to help out, its seems your more rewarded NOT to preorder.

If you preordered for the purpose of helping Rich, then your reward was helping, not getting it first. If you wanted to get it first, then don't claim that you did it to help. Just say, "I preordered because I wanted it first." Don't try to cloak it in some sort of noble altruistic aims if what you really cared about was getting it first no matter what.
Also, if previous years are any indication, there will probably be a very, very long line at GenCon. I remember people waiting for 4-5 hours in a line to get Paladin Blues when it came out, and I remember the board game selling out by noon on Thursday. So no one is going to be "rewarded" for not pre-ordering. I would rather wait days in the mail and be guaranteed to get it then hours of time in person and then be told that they sold out three people ahead of me.

I get why you're upset, but the other side of the coin is that for a lot of people, going out to Gencon requires a much greater investment of time and effort than pre-ordering. For someone who bases his or her decision to go to the con in any part on the availability of OoTS content, it's hard to begrudge someone who's actually willing to go outside, braving sunlight, possibly airports, and even more dire, airline food, their right to purchase slightly before we receive our product by mail.
IMHO, if being a lazy, on-line shopping, pre-ordering fan means I might get product a little later than someone else...well...that's the price of convenience. YMMV of course...just my opinion.
