If we ordered both at the same time, under the impression they would ship around the same time, will we have to wait until august to get the book?

I actually emailed Ookoodook about that a few days ago, and Kevin wrote back and told me that I could pay extra shipping and get them separately. I didn't quite follow his instructions on how to separate them, so I've emailed him asking for clarification, but I know it's possible.

I just wanted to echo my thanks for the status update. This is very important - please keep the communication coming!

Consider updating your first post in this thread once a week or so - that would help a lot. Even if it's just "No news in the past week; our expectations are the same today as they were a week ago."

It means a great deal to your customers, as I'm sure you can see.

I've just read the email and as much as it saddens me to learn of yet another delay, it's very nice to be informed.

I don't believe I've EVER had a real email from USPS (as until now, the couriers have never had my email address), and so they go straight to me spam folder and have been getting deleted without opening. How do you tell the difference?

It'll be sent from Ookoodook, not USPS, since they're the ones with your email address/order details. You take the tracking number in the email and enter it in the USPS website to get the tracking information (the email may have a link to automatically do this).

It will come from Ookookdook, not the USPS. USPS is the United States Postal Service, they don't ask anyone to confirm an order ever. You're seeing fishing attempts, not legitimate emails.

You would simply receive a tracking number to enter on the post office site, and it would come from Ookookdook, not the USPS. There is no reason to confirm your order, you did that when you first placed it.

I should point out that unless things have changed in the past couple of years, USPS tracking numbers really don't give you much info outside of "Yep, it's left" and "Yep, it's arrived," unless you decide to pay through the nose for quicker services.
UPS and FedEx give a lot more info when it comes to tracking, though.

USPS tracking is fine, and it costs maybe a $1 to tack on. Tracking is automatically included on a lot of USPS shipping methods. I've never had two or three day shipping arrive on time with UPS. It's always a day or two late.

In the case of the package I was looking for - not from ookoodook - going to two different post offices eventually got me to a helpful woman who figured out that it had been delivered on a route that doesn't come anywhere near my house. However, they still didn't know what address it had been misdelivered to, so it was permanently lost. The seller absorbed the $150 loss, which was nice for me, but must have been a pain for her.

UPS and FedEx tracking are considerably better, and in my experience they are a lot prompter and more reliable about delivery as well. They can be more expensive, though.

Well, that's true.

But a couple of years ago all it showed was "Ok, it shipped" or "It arrived" and it now will say "Its in Hot Springs AR as of 7:15 this morning!" which is considerably more helpful :)

I don't want to get peoples' expectations up that they'll be able to keep hitting F5 in their browser and watch a little USPS truck move across the map realtime from Houston to their house.

There's a big difference between tracking of priority envelopes (which most book orders will use) and boxes. Unfortunately box tracking is much better.

I would anticipate that most people will have their orders for a couple days before USPS tracking ever changes from Picked Up to Delivered.

The tracking number will be more useful for international customers. They should at least see when their order clears customs.

On the plus side, the new USPS envelopes are padded, so your order should have a pretty comfortable journey.

Also, you can follow Ookoodook on Twitter to get updates that wouldn't normally be thought of as important enough to post on Ookoodook news page.

Thanks for the clarification on USPS, everyone. I worked in a UPS store about five years ago, then I left the country for two years. Kinda been out of the loop.

A question if I may.

I have pre-ordered the book but I have not gotten any emails recently, especially one that has the code to enable me to check the shipping status.

Should I be concerned regarding whether Ookoodook have sent a book to my particular destination? Or is there any way to ask for an email if I provide my order number on my receipt or something to that nature?

Just having a tinge of paranoia that I may have been forgotten or my order misplace amid all the confusion.

None of the orders have been shipped yet, so no, no need to be worried about something like that.

Can we get some sort of official posting to this thread on the subject? I also would not like to wait until August to get my book if a little extra shipping will separate the two orders.

Just an update, I posted a new News post regarding the book. Unless something comes up that I'm not expecting, it should be hitting the presses Tuesday. Obviously, it will then take some time to run a few thousand copies, bind them, let the binding glue dry, and then ship them out to Ookoodook's warehouse, but there's really no way to speed that part up. If there are any changes, I will endeavor to let you know.

Thanks to Kevin for posting this thread to keep you guys updated when I couldn't.

I hesitate to put an exact date on it due to my previous miscalculation, but that would be a very upsetting delay. Given that I use a US printer partly to avoid long waits once the books are actually printed, I would hope they would be in everyone's hands long before that.

Well, the glue should dry a little bit more easily if the books are stored in a place with good airflow and low humidity. But that's skipping the obvious thing to do...
"Dry, dry, dry the glue..."

Great to see things in action, looking forward to the book.

Good to get this update. Lets just hope that it doesn't take TOO long. Already had to change the shipping address once... and I'm gonna have a different address come early August. I'd hate to have to inconvenience Ookoodook by requesting a change again.

I am perhaps one of the biggest fans of the comic and have all the paperbacks and most of the Dragon issues which had the comics from this paperback already. I think i started reading at comic 3. So I'm a huge fan. I am not upset about the delay, stuff happens.

What is irking me a bit is that while I preordered to help guage costs and help Rick with effectively maximizing profit with this book, due to geographic inconveniences I'll be waiting for mine in the mail while people who DIDNT take steps and be courteous by preorder will get this book at Gencon before me. I dont think its fair that anyone can walk up to the counter and purchase this will fans who are trying to be supportive get screwed.

The book was supposed to ship in June now a preorder of it is going to be send ahead of time for distribution at Gencon.. huge slap in the face.

So last time I will preorder to help out, its seems your more rewarded NOT to preorder.

If you preordered for the purpose of helping Rich, then your reward was helping, not getting it first. If you wanted to get it first, then don't claim that you did it to help. Just say, "I preordered because I wanted it first." Don't try to cloak it in some sort of noble altruistic aims if what you really cared about was getting it first no matter what.

Also, if previous years are any indication, there will probably be a very, very long line at GenCon. I remember people waiting for 4-5 hours in a line to get Paladin Blues when it came out, and I remember the board game selling out by noon on Thursday. So no one is going to be "rewarded" for not pre-ordering. I would rather wait days in the mail and be guaranteed to get it then hours of time in person and then be told that they sold out three people ahead of me.

I get why you're upset, but the other side of the coin is that for a lot of people, going out to Gencon requires a much greater investment of time and effort than pre-ordering. For someone who bases his or her decision to go to the con in any part on the availability of OoTS content, it's hard to begrudge someone who's actually willing to go outside, braving sunlight, possibly airports, and even more dire, airline food, their right to purchase slightly before we receive our product by mail.

IMHO, if being a lazy, on-line shopping, pre-ordering fan means I might get product a little later than someone else...well...that's the price of convenience. YMMV of course...just my opinion.
